How are y'all planning to watch the olympic preliminary rounds? I found a way to stream the semifinals and finals on NBC, but not sure how to watch the earlier rounds. I'm assuming FLO will have them, but I recently canceled my sub.
Not sure, but I'll deal with that when the time comes, which will probably be the day before I have to
Bo Bassett coming up wrestling Russia for 45kg gold at 12 EST. If Russia wins they clinch the team title. If USA wins they still need Russia to lose a bunch today.
Really cool to see India at the top, would really help the sport if another monster nation became a wrestling power. From where they were even a decade ago to their current position is pretty nuts
He would have to give the best apology in the history of apologies to be welcome back at PSU. He burned a lot of bridges on the way out. I'm guessing Arizona state or something.
He missed weight at big 10s and that wasn't his first weight issue. Pretty sure he's a 141 now. Also he stopped getting better like 4 years ago.
Only 16 qualify for the Olympics so it’s a straight forward bracket, 4 in each quarter. Really reduced fields from the Worlds kind of sucks and we failed to qualify at 65kg in freestyle after Zain and Jordan Oliver each missed their shot
Thanks. Looked at the schedule posted above and it just showed 57 and 86 semis but I may have skipped over the other rounds
Yeah they display it super dumb, but the first two rounds are at 10 eastern each night, so 57 and 86 will get their draws around midnight eastern tonight then those guys will be up tomorrow night at 10 eastern
Pretty sure it’s just a cable subscription to watch it all, been on NBC sports app for me or NBCOlympics.com on the computer. Fuck peacock
Draws and picks for 57 and 86 in freestyle. 57 - Gilman draws the overwhelming favorite, Uguev, for his first match. He wasn’t winning gold anyway so it’s not that bad, likely to have a shot at bronze at least. For Michigan fans, Micic got about the worst he could have as the top seed. Starts off with 2017 World champ Takahashi, then veteran tough out Sanayev if he somehow gets past Takahashi. Kumar vs Uguev should be the final, and a good one at that. 1. Uguev 2. Kumar 3. Sanayev 3. Atli(beating Gilman here) 86 - Taylor got the best draw out there, the only other threats for Gold are on the opposite side(Yazdani and Naifonov). First match is against a tough vet who may cause Taylor some problems with his size and counter lifts in Ali Shabanau. Other than that there’s nobody worth a shit on that side. 1. Yazdani(don’t know why, just think he gets it done) 2. Taylor(only reason I’m not picking him is the 3 years since he last saw any real top competition) 3. Naifonov 3. Shabanau
57: Abdullaev is really good. Not saying he beats Uguev, but I think that will be a match. I don't see Gilman beating either. 1. Uguev 2. Kumar 3. Takahashi 3. Abdullaev (Atli is a choke artist) 86: Not sure why people are saying Taylor got a great draw. Yeah he had a 50/50 shot of being on the bad side of the bracket, but if Taylor and HYC are 1A and 1B at this weight and Naifonov is #3, then Punia, Amine, and Shabanau might be 4, 5, and 6. DT has to go through all of them. It's more like HYC and Naifonov got the god draws. 1. David Morris Taylor III 2. Hassan Yazdani Charati da god 3. Art Naifonov 3. Wanted to say Amine gets San Marino their first Olympic medal, but they got their first medal last week in trap shooting. So I'll go with Punia only because he has to go through one less match.
Only reason I say it is the drop off is so huge, Amine and Punia have like no real wins between them. It’s a bad weight overall, Shabanau was the worst first round draw outside of Yazdani or Naifonov but there’s no one else on that side that’s even remotely close to that level.
Amine and Punia both have some pretty big wins. They just can't quite beat Naifonov/HYC is the problem.
I just look at it like this, if DT can't beat Myles Amine (or Deepak Punia) then he is nowhere near where he was and wasn't going to beat Yazdani (the greatest) anyway.
Didn't notice this the first time, but this thumbnail has Jordan doing his best McKayla Maroney olympic medal face. Made me
Another thing, I should have coached Kayla Miracle while I was at IU. She was in the BNHS system but moved away just before I got there -- her Dad was in my role the season before me. She was a stud — legit ranked in the state competing against the boys.
Micic looked like shit… Takahashi certainly has a top level as a gold contender but he hasn’t been there in a few years. Excited for the rest of this bracket
Micic took a nasty headbutt early, I think that didn't help, but the weight cut looks like it's a bit much for him, especially with same day weigh ins.
Not talking a lot is normally a good thing but think JB needs to do a bit more, Smith doing 90% of the commentary
Was just about to quote this… that was a massive choke to Atri, who has never placed in any senior level event. Good call
And usually a dirty fuck… but DT is here to kick some ass. There’s nobody on his side of the bracket that can even score on him. Can’t wait to see him against Yazdani(or Naifonov I suppose)
Gilman up 1-1 at the break, Gilman kinda in control and dictating the action at the moment. But obviously Uguev is the best for a reason.
Fuck. Best I’ve seen Gilman look but Uguev just had enough, still think Gilman has a good shot at a medal with Atli out. Abdullaev will be tough for Uguev though, that’s the big one
