No. What I took away from that interview is that Lee is saying Ramos didn’t beat him because he was hurt. He wished there was more praise on Ramos for beating him. He then says he’s not healthy, but typical wrestler nobody is healthy type talk. He plans to wrestle the Open because World Title and Olympic titles are his goals, but they’re still in the process of determining if he can to. He’s still got 2 weeks to register.
"I obviously plan on trying to compete at the US Open at the end of this month. We'll see, we're working on it, gotta be healthy, ready to go first of all. And then obviously the Olympics next year will be the main goal." When will we know for sure? "Whenever I register, whenever they register me" People are like oh no, he's not competing, he hasn't registered yet. "Well, registration's not over yet. I mean, we haven't fully decided whether I'm going or not. I plan on it, but I always plan on competing." You mentioned your health isn't great right now. "I mean, you know, it's as good as it gets, right?" What's your training regimen now? "I haven't really wrestled yet" Just mixed messages the entire interview. My opinion was that when he says "people say I lost because I was hurt, that's just not true. I got beat, there's no ifs, ands or buts" he's trying to be overly humble, but it doesn't work when you intimate you are injured 5 minutes later. Then he goes on to make it seem like he's definitely wrestling at the Open 2-3 different times, but then adds qualifying statements lke "I mean, we haven't fully decided..." I bet I'm alone on this opinion, but that was a BS interview imo. I love Spencer and really hope he gets healthy and is able to win world and olympic titles for the USA, but I think he was trying way too hard to heap praise on Ramos while passively intimating that everyone's right and that he's hurt while never actually saying it. Kinda comes off dickish when you look at it from that perspective.
this has always been spencer's bit. he has like negative charisma and gets caught between a rock and a hard place of confidence and humility. Even back to when he sat out a year in high school he would say really awkward stuff about being a coach of his teammates. And this is all fine, I have to mute the TV half the time when PSU wrestlers take the mic these days. If I were one of the best wrestlers of my time (of which I was close - RockHardJawn39 can attest) my interviews would be so cringe.
I feel like 90% of elite wrestlers are a little “off” so I’m gonna let it slide. It’s just a shame he has the knees of someone twice his age because I literally think he has the skills to be the greatest American wrestler ever. Just imagine he never tore an acl. I’d bet my salary hed be a world champ by now.
Major rule change proposals. 3pt take downs, 3pt near fall, no riding time without near fall. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2023/April/19/NCAA-proposes-3-point-takedown
Yep this is all done to promote scoring. Viewership was down and scoring was down big this year and has been trending down.
Supposedly Iowa offered both a boatload of money. Truax grew up a psu fan, but allegedly Nagao wanted a bag and was thought to be an iowa lock.
Of all people, I would think you, GGCD, would understand the draw of an incredible wrestling room. Didn’t you let us know that OSU’s room won a trophy?
125: SO Robert Howard (R16) 133: SO Aaron Nagao (5th) 141: JR Beau Bartlett (NQ, 3rd) 149: SO Shayne Van Ness (3rd) 157: SO Levi Haines (2nd) 165: Alex Facundo (DNP) 174: Carter Starocci (1st, 1st, 1st) 184: Bernie Truax (4th, 4th, 4th) 197: Aaron Brooks (1st, 1st, 1st) 285: Greg Kerkvliet (7th, 4th, 2nd) 8 returning AAs, all finished top 5. Robert Howard Alex Facundo are the "weak" spots in the lineup and both are AA threats. Could be one of the best teams ever.
You’re spot on. PSU has been incredibly fortunate to overcome inferior coaching, routinely being out recruited, and somehow have some success every now and then.
4th one looks worse than it is- that’s where they harvested the skin grafts. There’s a layer of yellow gauze (iodine impregnated) on his thigh that makes it look nasty.
I quit paying for flo as I don't have time to justify the cost but has there been a funner wrestler in recent memory than Vito.
Same on Flo, but the leap Vito has made this year might be worth it for Worlds as I assume he’ll get that spot at 61
Also Mekhi coming back for year 7. Slightly surprised as he told some people at an event last month he was done. Hokies return all their AA from last year.
