Nick Lee spent 5.5 minutes looking like he had nothing at all for this level of competition, then hits a big throw for 4 and nearly gets a win after being down 7-0 to Amouzad… who is absolutely shattered after the match. Weird, but now he needs Amouzad to recover and meat Musujkaev(who beat Mamedov and decked Otoguro today) to avoid adding 65 to the list of weights needing additional qualification
Snyder teched 10-0 in the first. I told y’all tazhudinov is good. very likely that Snyder goes medalless for the first time.
Then Snyder gets teched by a young “Bahrainian”, absolutely smoked. Now he needs that dude to beat his Dagestani brethren in Sadulaev or he’s in the qualifying process too
Oh, he’s good, but Kyle just walked right into that like he could bull him over. He’s not learned much over the years against crafty Russians
Nevermind, Sadulaev still finds a way despite looking dead on his feet. Goleij now the champion of almost beating the big guys only to blow it in the last 10 seconds
Vs Iran or “not Russia”? They don’t get team points but I’m curious how they’d be stacking up Honestly the Russians all looked a level or two below their best, even Sidakov hasn’t been his sharpest. Never seen them so consistently gassed, Gatsalov going to have some explaining to do.
Worth noting that shamil omarov, sadulaevs wrestling coach, was the first to hug and talk to sadulaev after his win against goleij. Talked to him for about 10 seconds alone. While wearing a Bahrain jacket. No one knows Sadulaev like Omarov. Tazhudinov will have the recipe for success here.
Think Musujkaev is going to beat Amouzad, he’s looked incredible today and Amouzad had some serious gas tank issues against Lee. Seabass going to get smoked by Tevanyan
Ok, 1-2…. Hands-up, who had Musujkaev vs Seabass for the world championship at the deepest weight in the world?
I wonder if it’s just the practical effect of those guys being out of world level competition for so long(Otoguro didn’t look great either) or the change in coaching for the national team… because Uguev, Sadulaev, and the rest looking like that is shocking
Micic just ran maybe the toughest gauntlet I’ve ever seen, 3 straight world champions after a couple tough early round matchups to boot. Absolutely wild to see him level up like that
Great match. unfortunately dake being put on the shot clock twice and sidakov zero times ended up being the difference
Wow, every bit as good as could have been hoped. Pretty sure Sidakov won but man both guys went after it
If you're ranking the world P4P, what on earth do you do? 1. Sidakov 2. Taylor 3. ???? help imo.... 3. Sadulaev 4. Dake 5. uhhhhhh micic?
If it’s just based on this year, Taylor and Sidakov are on top, but Micic and Tazhudinov had incredible tournaments with incredible scalps. Vito was great but in a non-Olympic weight. Dake honestly didn’t look great until the final, weird tournament
Olympics outlook: 57kg: This is going to be one of the most competitive weights at trials. Zane Richards failed to qualify the weight so we have that to worry about as well. Vito sits out until the semis, assuming he drops down to 57. The contenders: 1. Vito Arujao 2. Zane Richards 3. Thomas Gilman 4. Spencer Lee 5. Nick Suriano? Can Spencer get healthy by next spring (my guess: no). Does Arujao drop to 57, bump to 65 and compete with Yianni, or stay at 61 and forego the olympics? (my guess: 57) 65kg: Another weight we failed to qualify. My guess here is that Zain drops down and sits out to the semis. 1. Zain Retherford 2. Nick Lee 3. Yianni Diakomihalis 4. Andrew Alirez 5. Joey McKenna That's a really competitive group there imo. 74kg: Dake sits out to the finals. 1. Kyle Dake 2. Jordan Burroughs 3. Jason Nolf 4. Keegan O'Toole 5. Vincenzo Joseph 6. Mitchell Mesenbrink 86kg: Taylor sits out until finals. 1. David Taylor 2. Aaron Brooks 3. Zahid Valencia 4. Chance Marstellar? 5. Who cares it's David Taylor's weight 97kg: Snyder sits out until finals 1. Kyle Snyder 2. J'den Cox 3. Kollin Moore 4. Michael Macchiavello 125kg: Parris sits out until Finals. There's one glaring question here and I think everyone knows what it is. 1. Gable Steveson 2. Mason Parris 3. Nick Gwiazdowski 4. Dom Bradley 5. Wyatt Hendrickson Starocci and Dieringer are two names I didn't include because I think they stick at 79kg and can compete there. Maybe Marstellar stays there as well. I'm also sure Meyer Shapiro has Olympic aspirations but my guess is he's still a little green to compete with Dake.
65 could be really rough to even get qualified, Destribats makes the Pan Am qualifier a bit of a wild card(as Zain well knows). If we don’t get it done there, woof, lots names not yet qualified. Either way, hard to see a medal here without the god draw. 57 should be easier to qualify but that is a deep, deep weight and a medal is going to be hard to come by. Not sure Vito can make that weight healthily, he looked transformed this year up at 133 for college and 61kg for worlds.
If you tech Snyder and beat Sadulaev even in terrible shape, you’re #3 behind Taylor and Sidakov for me. That or keep Sadulaev 3 and put him 4th
How is that stupid? Dude knowingly broke the rules and didn't care what the repercussions were? Banning betting at the college athlete level is absolutely a good policy, as is the punishment
