Quick update, but first, holy shit at that Iowa thing having 43,000! Oracle Jr's team has 10 guys between 185-220, but no heavyweight, so instead of losing 5-10 lbs, the coach wants him to bulk up and wrestle heavyweight. Looks like he will be getting the extra piece of chicken for the next several weeks.
If he's a good technical wrestler then he shouldn't be gaining weight. It's a huge advantage to be faster and better than guys who are big strong and dumb. If he sucks then his best chance is to be as heavy as possible.
Last year in the 8th grade was his first year to wrestle. So its hard to say if he is a good technical wrestler or if he sucks. He is a pretty buff 225 on any given day. I think he is wanting to put on 5-10 lbs of muscle, so the extra food is lean proteins. He isn't too worried about the 270-285 guys as he can definitely be faster, he is more concerned with the 245-265 guys who can match his speed with some extra weight.
Disagree, it really depends. You can't just say in a vacuum being heavier or lighter is advantageous depending on skill level. Varies person to person.
They have a dual next Tuesday which should be a stout challenge because the school they are facing has several wrestlers that don't play football, they just wrestle, then they have an individual tourney on the 5th. Should know by the end of next week how this heavyweight thing is going to work.
I'm just saying that unless it's functional muscle gaining weight isn't advantageous. Not like a nose tackle gaining 60lbs just to be harder to move out of a gap.
Watched/helped a guy go from 189 to 275. The best he wrestled was at a weight that he still had his speed and also had some size. 235. However, when you're at 235 and go to face a monster like Zac Rey, there is nothing you can do. Having that much skill and size is deadly.
So Oracle Jr. had his first match last night and unfortunately his worst nightmare came up. He matched with a senior who placed 2nd in state last year at 285. He gave him a good run though and scored a few escape points, but in the end he couldn't overcome the weight, strength and experience difference. They were tied 3-3 at the end of the first period and then he got neck snapped to a knee and the other kid got Oracle Jr. off his belly with a bow and arrow and after 30 seconds of trying to keep his shoulders up, he got spread with a leg lock and pinned. I was so proud of how hard he fought. After the match, they were talking and the kid that beat him was floored when he found out he was only a freshman, so he may get his ass kicked some this year, but it should toughen him up for future seasons.

Should be fun, 125 lineup is ridiculous, 133 is full of top guys, 141 should be a lot of fun with the three big FR...lot's of good ones here. Then OKSU/NCSU on Sunday featuring Jack/Heil if NCSU decides to send him out.
This weekend will be an individual tournament with about 12 high schools participating. Its double elimination so at least we know Oracle Jr. will get 2 matches. Hopefully he will win a couple and get a few. Monday night they have a 4 school duel and one of the teams is coming from the Arkansas School for the Blind. Not sure how that works for them, but I am fascinated to see them in action.
damn wvu pulling 2 redshirts at Cliff Keen 133 Keegan Moore 149 Zachary Moore K. Moore beats #5 seed Rossi Bruno
NaTo just wrestled a kid that looked 2 weight classes bigger than him and threw him all over the place before pinning him in the first. He's really good.
Micah Jordan looks dominant at 141. Gotta be considered a strong favorite in this weak field considering how well he is wrestling right now.
Ohio State Wrestling @wrestlingbucks 36s36 seconds ago If this were the NCAA's @Bobo_Jordan & @juke_ryan would be wrestling. Tough timing with minor injuries. Be back soon!
Zavatsky over Stauffer at 184. Looked like Stauffer was limping pretty badly at the end, didn't catch the whole match though.
Pretty sure Jared Cortez from PSU beat Keegan Moore 6-0 at Mat Town last week or so. Victory looks even better for Cortez now. PSU open is this weekend as well...not a ton of other elite wrestlers though there should be some decent match-ups. Bo Nickal and Myles Martin and 141 should be a decent field with Gulibon, Durso, KeyShawn Hill, Rob Koll's kid, Krivus, etc.
Also nice to have Joseph sitting behind Nolf UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to the Mat-Town Open at Lock Haven University today. Four of Penn State's eight competitors won individual titles at the event, with wrestlers competing both attached and unattached. Jered Cortez (Carol Stream, Ill.) went 4-0 with a tech fall to win the title at 133 to get Penn State's championship onslaught started. True freshman Vincenzo Joseph(Pittsburgh, Pa.) dominated 157, going 4-0 with four technical falls to win the title. Junior Brian Brill (Lock Haven, Pa.) was equally impressive, going 4-0 with two pins and two tech falls to win the 174 pound crown. True freshman Kellan Stout (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-0 with two majors to win Penn State's fourth individual title, at 184 pounds. Red-shirt freshman Devon Van Cura (Washington, N.C.) went 4-1 at 184 to take third while Dominic Giannangeli went 3-2 at 141. Caleb Livingston (Drexel Hill, Pa.) picked up a victory at 165, Patrick Higgins (Monroeville, N.J.) picked up a win at 125, Dylan Dailey (Danville, Pa.) competed at 184 and Scott Stossel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) competed at 125 to round out Penn State's competitors at the event. Penn State will compete in the 2015 Nittany Lion Open on Sunday, Dec. 6. The event, hosted by the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, starts at 10 a.m. in Rec Hall. With season tickets once again sold out in advance of the campaign beginning, Penn State is giving fans more opportunities than ever to see the Nittany Lions compete, including Penn State's next home dual meet on Dec. 13. Fans may purchase singles to Penn State's two BJC Duals (Wisconsin on 12/13 and Ohio State on 2/5) online at www.GoPSUsports.com/accountmanager or by calling 1-800-NITTANY.
Watched the match. was 4-4 and Stauffer hurt his hamstring defending a shot. Surrendered the takedown, could barely walk, and gave up another.
Earl Hall over Josh Alber in SV2, early candidate for match of the tourney so far Micah Jordan with an 11-5 win over Nicholas Gil in his toughest match of the season to date

We may not end up holding onto this lead, but the way Mark Cody has us wrestling this year has surprised the hell out of me.
We had the individual tournament this past weekend and Oracle, Jr. lost both his matches. He weighed in at 223 and the guys he wrestled were 265 and 283. He was the only freshman in the heavyweight class. It wasn't even close. He definitely got jobbed in his first match when a pinfall was called, but I don't think he would have beaten the kid anyway, he was the one who took first place. The second match, the guy was just way too heavy and eventually it went to the ground and the other kid ended on top of the pile and just squished the shit out of Oracle, Jr. Gonna be a long year.
He just has to cut to under 220. He is already matched for their next two events in heavyweight, then he is planning on cutting and challenging the kid at 220 for his Varsity spot. We took 14 kids and 11 of them are Freshmen, so needless to say we got our asses handed to us.
Oracle, Jr. went 2-0 last night in a Tri-Duel in heavyweight. Taking him to the doctor today for x-rays because what we thought was a sprained wrist may be a broken hand from Saturday's tourney. He had it wrapped last night for the duel, but it is killing him.
Big dual between OSU and Missouri this weekend: 125-Nate Tomasello vs Barlow McGhee McGhee looked great at CKLV beating Chishko and Terao and I think he is on his way to an AA finish, but NaTo is the champ for a reason. Nate by decision but I am looking forward to seeing this one for sure. 133-Johnni DiJullius vs Zach Synon Synon beat Alber 2-1 two weeks ago and had been looking good before getting destroyed by DiCamillo from Virginia at CKLV, but DiCamillo looks outstanding and has been beating everyone badly (except Garrett). Johnni had to med forfeit his QF match at CKLV and I don't know if he's healthy or not. If he wrestles I think he takes a decision that is contested until the very end of the match. If it isn't JDJ I think that means Mike Hozan is the next guy? Mizzou would be looking at bonus points in that case. 141-Micah Jordan vs Matt Manley Micah is too good. He is wrestling like a top contender at 141 right now. I think he gets the MD. 149-Cody Burcher vs Lavion Mayes Mayes will take this one just a matter of whether or not he takes bonus points with him. I think Burcher limits him to a decision but a MD or more would not be shocking. 157-Jake Ryan vs Luke Fortuna Jake didn't wrestle at CKLV because of a nagging injury, who knows if he wrestles against MU. If he does, I see him winning by decision, if not, I see Fortuna winning by decision. 165-Bo Jordan/Justin Kresevic vs Daniel Lewis Bo also didn't wrestle at CKLV because of a minor injury, and he hasn't wrestled at 165 yet this season. So there is no really telling where he wrestles or even if he wrestles against Missouri. But if he does, I think he takes bonus points in this match-up. If he can't go or is wrestling at 174, it will be Kresevic here and Lewis will win by decision. I am giving this to Bo by MD or Lewis by decision if Kresevic. 174-Bo Jordan/Ryan Harris/Justin Kresevic/Myles Martin vs Blaise Butler Who knows who wrestles here for OSU. Could be any of the three guys I listed, or maybe Justin Kresevic even. Martin is definitely the man for OSU at 174 but he hasn't had his RS pulled officially yet, not sure if they want to wait on that still or if his close match against Nickal at the PSU open was enough to justify pulling it now. If it's Jordan, I see him winning by decision. If it's Harris, I see a MD or TF victory for Butler. I will go with TF. If it's Martin, I could see it going either way. A true toss up. I give it to Butler though. If it's Kresevic, I think it's a MD for Butler. I'll say for now it's Harris and give Butler the TF. 184-Kenny Courts vs Willie Miklus Second matchup after NaTo/McGhee between ranked opponents (assuming Bo doesn't wrestle 174). This will be a rematch of their match in the consolation bracket at CKLV last weekend which Miklus won by MD. I think he wins handily once again but this time I don't think he gets that bonus point. 197-Mike Martin vs J'Den Cox J'Den Cox will win handily. He is on his well on his way back to where he belongs, which is atop a podium in March. I think he gets bonus points, but I don't know how many he gets, so I'll say he wins by TF as a "hedge" if you can call a TF that. 285-Nick Tavanello vs James Romero I don't know much about Romero outside of watching his two matches at CKLV. He was up late in his first match but got taken down and pinned with 25 seconds left. Then in his first consolation match he lost by MD. I'm picking Tavanello by fall here. So I have it 19-16 OSU without the 165 match. If Jordan wrestles at 165 I have it 23-16 OSU, if Kresevic wrestles I have it dead even at 19-19. Missouri would win by criteria of having more Falls/Tech Falls with two (Buter over Harris and Cox over Martin). Basically I think this comes down to whether or not JDJ, Jake Ryan, and Bo wrestle. If they all wrestle, OSU wins. If one can't go, it will come down to bonus points. If two can't go, OSU is really facing an uphill climb. If none of the three wrestle, Mizzou will win handily.
Tavanello beats Romero by Fall 6-0 OSU Tomasello beats McGhee by MD 10-0 OSU Synon beats JDJ by Fall 10-6 OSU Synon pinned JDJ in the 3rd when he was down. Big big swing there. Looks like it's all hands on deck for both teams though so this could be close.
Jake Ryan MD over Fortuna, 14-13 OSU. Bonus point could be big. Bo-Lewis up now, think Bo needs bonus or someone on OSU needs an upset.
Impressed by the young Ryan - I think that should be the final match in the OSU/PSU dual. Very interested to see how he fairs against Nolf.
Bo wins 6-4 over Lewis, Lewis chose up at the start of the 2nd period, got numerous stall calls, and rode him out. Bo with 3 takedowns and 0 for Lewis though. 17-13 OSU. Myles Martin not wrestling as anticipated, it instead will be Dom Prezzia, which means Mizzou will win this dual.
Wyoming with a tough dual loss at Iowa St 19-14. That's their first real Big 12 dual as Air Force was an old foe Bryce Meredith is really good at 141
13-3 Butler MD over Prezzia. 17-17 tied up with Miklus-Courts and Cox-Martin likely netting 6-9 points for Mizzou. Need an upset, and Martin is not beating Cox. Courts needs to get it done.
