Not excuses, just truth. OSU would need bonus from Snyder if both teams were fully healthy if they wanted to win. Now Hayes is out and Snyder won't be wrestling. OSU will be favored at 133, 174, and maybe 197. They'd be favored at 141 and 285 if Hayes and Snyder were in the lineup. Even with a fully healthy lineup they'd need an upset at 184 to win the dual, and that might not even be enough. PSU is really good.
Streams here, won't be in English FYI: https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/world-championships-non-olympic-weight-categories
So Logan Stieber just made the world finals by winning two consecutive matches with LAST SECOND takedowns against Russia and then Iran. Apparently the first he won 10-0 TF, I have not seen it yet as I was sleeping. He gets Georgia in the finals at noon ET.
Logan Stieber has made the finals in Budapest at the non-Olympic weight world championships in Budapest. In his first senior level world tournament, he will face Beka Lomtadze (GEO) in the 61kg finals at noon eastern time. The finals will be streamed here. The four-time NCAA champ had two incredible matches to make the finals. His gunslinging mentality paid off in both the quarters and the semis, both of which he won on buzzer beating takedowns. Starting off the day against 2015 world bronze medalist Vasyl Shuptar (UKR), Stieber dominated with two takedowns and a trap arm for a 10-0 tech. His next two matches would not be so easy. In a rematch of a 2012 Beat the Streets match, Stieber and Akhmed Chakaev (RUS) staged a 13-11 barnburner in the quarters that was likely the best match of the morning session. In true Stieber fashion, the shootout did not faze him. After head coach Bill Zadick waived off a challenge brick, Stieber trailed 11-10 with only eight second remaining. The former Buckeye hit a slideby just before time expired to move on, as the Russian coaches protested the lack of review. Russia threw in a challenge brick, but the stream went out leaving no video tape to look at. As a result, Russia lost the challenge making the final score 13-11. His semifinal match against Behnam Ehsanpoor (IRI) was just as good. The Iranian tried to slow down Stieber's wide open style with a very low stance and keeping him tied up with underhooks. Stieber would strike first scoring a takedown in the opening minute of the match, but the Asian championships runner-up from Iran would counter with six unanswered points to lead 6-2 heading into the break. The Titan Mercury star opened the second period guns blazing with a takedown and a turn to make it 6-6, but leading on criteria. But Ehsanpoor again responded with a go ahead takedown with 30 seconds left to make it 8-6. After a restart with 15 second left, Stieber chased Ehsanpoor down and ran through a takedown. Under pressure, Stieber stuck to the gameplan and unloaded the clip, as he made the Iranian bite on a fake leg attack, snapped him down, started to go behind him and then pancaked him to his elbow. The replay clearly showed the points were scored at 5:59, and with the challenge Stieber won 9-8 to make the finals. He was also made the 2011 junior world finals.
A guy at the iron man Decatur won his quarter 10-1 Carr came a whisker from getting pinned in the 1st. Got cradaled. Was down 0-5 after 1. Then went beast mode and kept turning the kid with wicked arm bars.Pinned him in the 3rd Decatur has a tough semi. Joe Silva from Florida. Jordan beat him this summer at the Disney duals in sudden victory OT. If he wins he get Spencer Lee. (Assuming Lee wins his semi ....hahahaha)
I've been watching as well. So impressed by Carr after nearly getting pinned in the first, being hobbled by a bad knee, and going straight BEAST mode. Singletary also looked great, he looks a lot bigger than last time I saw him, which I guess shouldn't be a huge surprise. Easily pinned his QF opponent (twice basically, they called the first NF an illegal move, i didn't see it that way) Jacob Decatur also looks good (albeit small). Lost to Julian Tagg by 1 in double OT in 1/4 finals (I believe they are close friends), then won his first consolation bracket bout.
They are only wrestling on one mat, I believe. His match just isn't up yet. Probably got few more matches to go before he's up. EDIT: Probably up really soon, doing 61kg bronze matches now.
Stieber is on deck! https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/world-championships-non-olympic-weight-categories
What a joke. Stream came back as he is shaking hands with the Georgian. He won 8-4. He's a world champion. But no one saw it.
Decatur vs Silva semi is absolutely wild. Decatur up 1 late but gives up a late take down and a caution point to lose. Great match.
holy shit david carr-julian ramirez! Carr was down 8-2 after one, was down 9-7 with less than a minute left in the match, then he goes ham and scores 8 points to win 15-9. Match for the ages.
James Green fails to medal. Still not a bad cycle for the Americans, 2 Golds and 1 bronze, even if one of those was non-olympic. And that doesn't include Jordan Burroughs, which is crazy. Also it's a good time to note that Hassan Yazdani, the young Iranian stud (21 years old) who won gold at 74kg is moving up to 86kg. So he's no longer Burroughs' problem and now Cox has to deal. Sadulaev is moving up to 97kg so Snyder is going to have to beat him at some point if he wants more gold next year. Aniuar Geduev, Burroughs' rival that took Silver to Yazdani, is also moving up to 86kg to fill Sadulaev's vacated weight. That leaves 74kg as the weight without a heavy international favorite. Burroughs seems like the guy to win Gold next year, assuming he makes it past Dieringer.
Yazdani all the way up to 86? Wow, he was kind of a small 74kg guy, at least compared to Geduev. From 70 to 86 in 2 years is a lot of growth. I've questioned Snyder enough(didn't think he could win gold before the Olympics, whoops), so I'm not going to doubt him but Sadulaev has been the most dominant wrestler of the past decade at least. Interesting to see where Burroughs is, mentally and physically. Was that the beginning of the end or just a blip after a tough loss to Geduev? USA has the makings of their best lineup since the mid 90's, so it could be a fun cycle
It really does seem that way, but the insane thing is that he's only 20 fucking years old still. He won a cadet gold in 2013, then lost his first ever senior level match a few months later when he was still 17. He hasn't lost since. And he hasn't just not lost--as far as I know, he hasn't been taken down in years. There is only one video of him being taken down period, IIRC. He's only 20. He's still growing.
Look at 2017 World's in Paris: 57kg: Who knows. Dennis, Ramos, Nahshon, Graff, Nico, Spencer Lee even? Lee is the future but he's going to be 17 during trials I believe. This is the most open weight. Anyone can win it. My money is on Nahshon or Ramos. Wouldn't mind seeing that rematch. 61kg: Stieber awaits in the trials finals. He's legit the best offensive wrestler in the country. He beat the top 4 61kg guys in the tournament this weekend, and has a win over the top 65kg in the world to boot (Ramonov). Cody Brewer might be his top competition, or Garrett if he goes 61. 65kg: Frank the Tank, Zain Retherford, Pico. Maybe Jimmy Kennedy can slip in some wins but those 3 guys are the ones to keep an eye on now. Pico is finally training again after tearing his ACL, but he has an MMA career ahead of him. 70kg: James Green is the best we've got, won bronze last year before losing a close one last night. Jordan Oliver and IMAR are biggest competition, but I think there is separation. 74kg: Burroughs and Dieringer. This is the first time in six years Burroughs is going to have to participate in the challenger tournament. Dieringer is just so good and still getting better. Hall and Massa aren't ready for primetime yet, but they're going to be threats come Tokyo. 86kg: Cox waiting in the finals. Dake and Taylor are his biggest competitors, but they're undersized, especially Dake. Gotta think Cox is the man going forward. Zahid could make noise in the future. 97kg: Snyder is in the finals. The only guy remotely close to him is Jake Varner. Everyone else is on a much lower tier. 125kg: Rey and Gwiz are top candidates to replace Tervel. Gwiz has the higher ceiling but Rey is probably better right now.
Didn't think it was possible for 157# to get any worse... Max Rohskopf and Richie Lewis are out for the year, so is Bryce Brill. Rohskopf and Lewis were both ranked in the top 8. There are going to be some really mediocre wrestlers that AA that weight class this season.

Big time HS and College wrestling tournaments coming up in the next few days. Powerade Thursday and Friday. Midlands Thursday and Friday. Southern Scuffle Sunday and Monday.
Mark Hall wins the Scuffle title unattached. If not for the RS he'd absolutely be a title contender this year. He's going to be a multi-time NCAA champ and a 4-time AA.

Dake back down to 74kg, will wrestle in paris this month. Big news in that it looks like UWW expanding to 10 weight classes in 2018--I'm assuming one is the much needed 80kg, gotta assume the 2nd is between 97kg and 125kg, but who knows. I'd be fine with 9 weight classes to be honest as long as 80kg is added.
Sounds like Snyder and Rey are going live tonight in Colorado Springs.. Burroughs asked a room full of beasts who they thought would win. For the record I've got Rey.

Huge changes to be announced tonight in Senior FS weight classes: Beginning in 2018, there will be ten weights with four non-Olympic divisions. It is to go like this: 55 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, 85 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg, and 130 kg. For the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, similar to now, only six weights are on the schedule: 60 kg, 65 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg, 100 kg, and 130 kg. Immediate thought is that non-olympic is great, olympic weights now have glaring issues--it was bad enough before, but increments of 5-10-10-15-30 is drastic. More weight classes are needed in Olympic cycles, period. -In terms of US, it probably benefits a guy like Spencer Lee who is on the small side. He could be a world teamer in 2018 at 55kg. Might be the favorite. -Logan Stieber gets a double edged sword. I can't imagine the cut to 61kg was fun, but all he has to do is cut another 2.2 lbs and he could be headed to Tokyo. -97kg to 100kg hurts Kyle Snyder. He is on the small side for 97kg already and wrestles bigger guys, now the weight class is 220+ pounds. He's probably not much more than that today. If there was a 92-95kg weight class he'd probably wrestle in it. -Hurts a lot of small guys internationally. The jump from 57kg to 60kg in olympic years is huge. 6.6 pounds is a big difference when you weigh 125. Almost a whole new weight class.

Beat Illinois 29-18. No Bo Jordan or Stevis_In_C-Bus favorite wrestler Jake Ryan. Tomasello dominated Zane Richards. Micah Jordan/Kollin Moore/Snyder all had pins. Jose Rodriguez seems to be hurt though and can't move.
