Absolutely, I know it's been a short amount of time as he was only hired a year or two ago, but Bill Zadick "gets it". He is big on development and RTCs. He is doing all the right things. USA will be competitive internationally for the foreseeable future. More team titles await. Hall, Steveson, Lee, Fix are all studs and future senior world medalists. This is not our last team title.

Interesting note here for next year in particular:

Not sure about Cox as he's bumping up to the new 92kg weight class so he'll probably have to go to The Open unless they grant him an exemption or something.

Watched again, Snyder's strength broke Sadulaev and Sadulaev had absolutely nothing left at the end. Not sure what I want more, Snyder to run shit for the foreseeable future or an all time war between those 2.

Tons of respect to Sadulaev if he stays at that weight.

I'd like to see an all time war through 2020, but it really does seem like Sadulaev is just not big enough at 97. He struggled more in this tournament getting his offense going (still shut everyone down until Snyder but was not nearly as explosive with his scoring). But I don't think he can just go down without giving it one more cycle against Snyder. To be so dominant for so long and to have it ended like that has to be pretty motivating.

It was apparent that Snyder had a size advantage and Snyder isn't one of the bigger guys at the weight. The difference between Odikadze and Sadulaev was even more drastic. Snyder cuts probably 11-12 pounds to make 97, I wouldn't be surprised if Sadulaev doesn't have to cut weight at all. So there is definitely a size advantage. Snyder said in his interview that he felt like he was stronger as well.

Here is what I think happens with Sadulaev:

2018: Drops to 92kg where he is more appropriately sized at the moment, while continuing to gain weight.
2019: Bumps back up to 97kg with some additional size ahead of Tokyo
2020: Tokyo Olympics at 97kg (92kg is a non-olympic weight and Sadulaev isn't about to make 86kg with same day weigh ins on consecutive days)

Obviously it hurts OSU as Suriano is probably Tomasello's toughest match (can't see Cruz or Lizak beating him but suriano can). That being said, I am overjoyed that the big10 made this decision. Really looking forward to watching nick wrestle in March and to 2019 and beyond to future battles with Spencer Lee and Daton Fix. The wrestling world shouldn't be deprived of watching a talent like Nick for a year.

Ridiculous opinion imo. 1, 3, 3, is an insane start to a career, especially considering he only lost one match in both of the 3rd place seasons to Gilman and Clark, two top tier guys. Clark is an NCAA Champ and Gilman is a world silver medalist.

He will have another top 3 finish this year and be the early favorite at 125.

If Bo Jordan wins a title this year, would his career have been a disappoint with 3, 3, 2, 1 finishes? Of course not. If Tomasello finishes 2nd he would have identical finishes.

Cadet World Championships underway in Athens, Greece, Greco kicking us off.

Not a great showing as usual for Team USA. Colton Schultz is the only one of 5 Americans to make the semis on Day 1. Ridge Lovett was up 7-0 at the break in quarterfinals (8 points is a tech) and he lost 12-8.

This is a pretty big deal IMO.

USA hasn't had a Cadet World Champion in Greco in 20 years.

Their last FINALIST was a year later in 1998, so Colton's already done something that hasn't been done in 19 years.

He's currently ranked the #2 overall recruit in the class of 2019.

Men's freestyle doesn't start until Friday morning, which is when Decatur wrestles. Hoffman wrestles Friday morning as well.

I would be shocked if Jordan Burroughs has a broken ankle. He won world's in 2013 with a broken ankle, he had surgery like 3.5 weeks before competing, was told recovery would be 6-8 weeks, and won Gold with a plate/screws in his ankle anyway. Maybe you're reading an old story? Where did you see it posted?

OSU practice started last week with their fall conditioning testing.

It basically measures where guys are at coming out of the Summer because they're on their own quite a bit and they don't have the same amount of contact with coaches that they do during the season. The entire team outside of Kyle Snyder and Kevin Snyder participated (they were in Paris still), and Steelwood Radio shared the top 3 at each test which I think is pretty cool.

    3K Run:
    1. Clay Ragon - 10:46
    T2. Nate Tomasello - 10:47
    T2. Brady Koontz - 10:47

"Weight Hold" (Hold 1/2 body weight dumbbells in each hand....so if you weigh 200, hold 100 pounds in each hand as long as possible):
    1. Fritz Schirl - 3:07
    2. Bo Jordan - 2:41
    3. Ke-Shawn Hayes - 2:34

    Longest Plank
    1. Nate Tomasello - 21:08 (Jesus Christ, absolutely smoked everyone else)
    2. Brady Koontz - 13:03
    3. Dylan Koontz - 12:00

    Pull-ups
    1. Jaimen Hood - 39
    2. Nate Tomasello - 37
T3. Micah Jordan - 34 (They also mentioned that he's currently 165 pounds and planned on wrestling at 149 until they got official word on McKenna--he'll very likely be at 157 now though)
    T3. Hunter Lucas - 34

    Others mentioned:
    Bo Jordan - 32
    Te'Shan Campbell - 31

    Deadlift
    1. Te'Shan Campbell - 535 (Here's video of him lifting 495 like it's nothing in May )
    T2. Kaleb Romero - 505
    T2. Zach Steiner - 505

    Others mentioned:
Nate Tomasello - 435 (Highest ratio of DL:Bodyweight on the team)

Bench Press (Not sure how many reps, this doesn't seem like a max)
    T1. Cody Burcher - 335
    T1. Kaleb Romero - 335
    T1. Kollin Moore - 335

    Others mentioned:
    Bo Jordan - 315

Pretty interesting stuff, Tomasello is a beast so it's not overly surprising to see his name there a lot.

Tomasello Down To 125 And Back On Top
It's ranking season already! We'll be rolling out our rankings 1 weight at a time, starting with 125.

The lightest division presents some challengers for our preseason rankings. With Ohio State’s Nathan Tomasello coming down from 133 and several studs coming back injuries, there are quite a few wrinkles to be ironed out.

I’m sympathetic to the argument that the returning national champion, Darian Cruz, should start the year No. 1, however, Tomasello is also a former 125 champ, and has a more impressive resume than Cruz. NaTo followed up his championship season with two consecutive one-loss seasons. With that kind of history, Tomasello has to start at the top.

Our No. 3 ranked 125 pounder, Nick Suriano, meanwhile, has an argument for the No. 2 spot, owning to his head to head win over Darian Cruz. However, Suriano did not wrestle in the Big Ten nor NCAA Championship due to injuries, and the benefit of the doubt has to be given to the champ. Indeed, Cruz was able to avenge other losses he suffered during the year, notably to Ethan Lizak in the NCAA finals. So the recent transfer to Rutgers starts at No. 3.

Most everyone else fell in to place based on last year's rankings and NCAA tournament finishes. Exceptions to that rule include three guys who were previously unranked and are returning from year long absences due to redshirt or injury: Ryan Millhof, Ronnie Bresser and Dalton Macri. Millhof is the only returning All-American of that trio, and as a result, the transfer to Arizona State earned the highest ranking of the bunch. Bresser is a two-time national qualifier for Oregon State who finished in the bloodround in 2016. Macri, a recent transfer to North Carolina, beat Bresser in the NCAA tournament, but only finished in the round of 16 in 2016 and has a slightly less impressive resume than Bresser, thus his lower ranking.

No true freshmen will start the year in the rankings at any weight, and Northwestern's Sebastian Rivera is the only redshirt freshmen that made it at 125, due mainly to his stellar fourth place finish at last year's Midlands Tournament. No other 125 pound redshirt freshman was as impressive, though as this season progresses more first year wrestlers will undoubtedly join Rivera in the rankings.

The second half of 125's rankings all have wins and losses that could be used to argue for a reshuffling, and there are several wrestlers right on the cusp, so expect plenty of movement as we go deeper into the season.

Was down 1-1 on criteria with 20 seconds left before a Snyder-like snapdown and go behind.

Unrelated because I love Mark Hall and he's great, but there was a thread on TheMat.com asking if Mark Hall is the USA's greatest age-level wrestler of all time. Of course the first dozen or so posts correctly pointed out that while Hall is amazing, Kyle Snyder exists and is easily the best junior in USA history.

There was a poster within the thread vehemently arguing that Hall was a better age-level wrestler than Snyder because he has 3 cadet/junior golds to Snyder's 1.

(The dumb part being that he refused to count Snyder's senior world or olympic titles that he won while Junior eligible because it wasn't against Juniors).

That's incredibly dumb. Snyder is already one of the greatest USA wrestlers of all time and before it is all said and done will most likely be the undisputed greatest wrestler of all time.
