Shouldn't be too long. New album is/nearly is done, as far as I know. She was in Memphis this past December recording tracks at Sam Phillips Studio.
Got a free ticket to see Dwight last night. Had older folks offering to buy me beer because they assumed I wasn't old enough. Same thing happened at Clint Black a couple summers ago. He did a few song tribute to Merle and then Buck Owens. Was awesome to get to cross an all-time favorite off the list.
After watching this cover for the millionth time and taking the songs off his new album I'm calling it: Chris Stapleton is a better blues musician than a country musician.
Aaron Tippin was the main entertainment this year for the festival my town has for July 4th. He was awful. Talked and told bullshit stories the whole time. Sang like 4 songs and only maybe 2 of those were decipherable. Mumbled, skipped words, and voice went out for a lot of it.
Been on a lot of Tyler Childers lately. Some Colter Wall, but I cant figure out if I can deal with him sounding like he had a stroke. Some other weird shit that is hit or miss is Lost Dog Street Band.
how to write a song, by jason aldean: catch phrases: 1. small town 2. water tower 3. flyover 4. nothing to do in this town 5. two lane the other thing to point out is easton corbin really sold out. fucking A dude is bad now. the top 40 shit i'm not minding so much lately is brothers osborne, eric church and jon pardi. carly pearce has a bomb ass voice and face to match but she just signed with big machine records so i doubt she amounts to anything after her debut single which is solid.
Just read a review of this Easton Corbin guy because he's about to play a concert here; my god this sounds horrible Easton Corbin — Listening to Easton Corbin is to encounter a variety of unholy alliances. 2012’s “Are You With Me” places its Buffett-esque, brokenhearted-and-buzzed narrative atop sprawling Americana that pushes uncomfortably toward The Joshua Tree. This year’s “A Girl Like You” percolates atop a synth-pop beat that stands at stark odds with insistent peals of pedal steel and Corbin’s oh-so-intentional twang. For those who stand up for any traditional notion of “country,” this mainstream radio star might as well be the devil. But even for those who invite genre fusion, his uneasy combinations might still make you queasy.
His debut album back in 2010 was pretty great country music. Since then he's basically completely sold his soul to the record label and it's real bad right now.
Saw Brent Cobb, Margo Price, and Chris Stapleton on Saturday. Great show. Margo was awesome. Stapleton was what you expected. Seemed like a humble dude just doing what he does. It was nice not seeing the traditional "front man" bouncing around the stage with no instrument. Stapleton played the Firebird in stl about two years ago which holds maybe 200 people if they're cramped. He sold out to 20,000 at stl's outdoor venue and kept the attention of most the entire time. New album is decent. Really like "Broken Halos"
So we're now complaining about artists we haven't even listened to but because an article gave a negative review?
im still skeptical on Midland because they're basically a big machine records creation with no country music pedigree whatsoever, but damn they are actually making really good music. in this day and age, i'll take whatever i can get from Nashville.
Daddy Rabbit Margo Price 17 mins · I’m so excited to share what the band and I have been working on this past year. My full-length album, “All American Made”, will be out October 20th, 2017 on Third Man Records and was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee at Sam Phillips Recording. These songs (written both by myself and with my husband) were born while traveling America - between the highways and hotel rooms, in the crowded airports and all-night diners and occasionally, on the green grass of our Tennessee home. “All American Made” is available for pre-order now with instant downloads of “A Little Pain” and “Weakness.” Looking forward to hitting the road on the Nowhere Fast tour in January too. All pre-orders through Third Man Records will get access to a special tour ticket pre-sale on Tuesday, September 12th. Pre-order “All American Made” here: http://smarturl.it/allamericanmade
I streamed her Lock'n set a couple of weeks ago and noticed Kevin Black wasn't on stage. Her new tour doesn't stop in Nashville, understandably.
I have no idea how Midland made it to #1. I listened to the Old Dominion song behind it and I wish I was deaf so I never have to hear that again.

"No Such Thing as a Broken Heart"? Maybe? Fucking love Midland though. They certainly aren't red dirt or alt-country but I respect the shit out of what they're doing compared to this other shit.
