Seems like some US Senators are chiming in on the WWE event. Curious what Vince does with his wife working for the president if they push and hold the event or they cancel the event. The money the Saudis are paying for these events is massive. It would be such a huge financial hit to WWE if they lost this revenue. My guess is they have the event and take the heat.
I have no doubt they'll go through with it. But it's not like they need the payday. It's still a billion dollar company who's stock has been soaring this year.
The Saudi deal has done a tremendous job of compensating for horrible live events business its been doing. Those skewed figures help the stock raise and make them money. I'm sure investors would take some pause if they showed red numbers (they would without the Saudi deal) when it came to the live event business since WWE is in part a touring company who is losing money by touring because people don't want to come out and watch them live.
I wonder how much revenue they make by touring as opposed to what they make from RAW/Smackdown, the network, and TV money. I'd assume its minuscule.
So why not cut way back on the live shows. One of the reason I think we get so many great NXT matches is the guys just have way less wear and tear on them. Stop making these wrestlers kill themselves by being on the road 300 days a year. Cut that in half and put out a better product.
They have enough people on the roster they cold legit give guys 3 months of vacation and build fresh stories with more people getting TV time. But they continue to trudge through an obviously flawed touring model. As they do with just about everything.
I doubt WWE will increase the pay of the wrestlers much compared to their tv rights increases. And it's still mind blowing that they're allowed to 1099 their performers.
Allegedly most of the talent really doesn't want to go to SA but front office obviously still does. Would be a hell of a time for the wrestlers to actually strike and form a union. WWE would cave with the quickness.
They are rumored to make about 40-50m per year from the Saudi's over the next 10 years to put on these events. They gross around 180m a year on north american live events. So the Saudi's pay for two live shows a year what wwe brings in during an entire quarter of live events. Again this is going off some of the financials they post since they are publicly traded
"Saudi Arabia" is being scrubbed from wwe.com and the link to buy tickets is gone. Feels like it's getting moved or cancelled
Rainy day and the nfl is boring me, which can only mean one thing: It's time for the latest edition of Shiggityshwo's hungover jaunts through the Attitude Era Let's see what kind of wackiness awaits us in the War Zone
Sorry for the delay, had a phone call Pre No Chance Mr McMahon kicks things off as he walks to the ring with a cheese eating grin on his face to a rousing chrous of boos. Don't know about you, but I think he's up to something...
Appears he's here to announce the first ever Breakdown ppv, a show, as we all know, that's gone on to commonly be referred to as "WWE's 5th Major" Also he called Undertaker and Kane pussies, which I thought was kind of funny
Undertaker and Kane apparently did not like being called pussies, and are now beating the crap out of poor Steve Blackmon, where's Chester McCeeserton when you need him
Undertaker and Kane apparently really did not like being called pussies and are now beating the crap out of the Big Valboski and Vader I'm sensing a theme here
We're about two months from Survivor Series, this is the run where The Rock goes from hottest heel in the game to so undeniably entertaining that the fans turn him face for a second
And as if to make my point, just had a big "Rocky Sucks" chant, followed by a huge pop for The People's Elbow
Undertaker and Kane have appatently gotten over being called pussies, and did not beat the crap out of anybody this match. However, Chyna did bust in to get her some of Mark Henry, making it 3/3 on match run-ins so far /Russo
Wait, correction, Undertaker and Kane are indeed still upset over being called pussies, and are now beating the crap out of poor Tiger Ali Singh
For those keeping count, we are now 4/5 on match run-ins, 2/2 on interrupted in ring segments. Can't give all the blame to the Brothers of Destruction for the last match though as Jeff Jarrett got the party started attacking X-Pac, and at that point why not go down to the ring and beat the crap out of someone, ya know?
Gangrel is now assaulting Edge, bringing the count to 5/6 I'll let you guess as to whether Undertaker and Kane beat the crap out of someone in this match Spoiler: They did
There were no interruptions during this pre-taped sit down interview with Al Snow, although I guess there could've been one or two edited out Oh dear lord, ICP has arrived
Heh, Undertaker and Kane basically just gave 2 Cold Scorpio a Meltzer Driver, minus the flip Well that closes the show and I'm spent, good night everybody
Holy fuck impact just did a....thing.....where they did like a horror movie....match? It's all pre-taped, like the Broken Hardys Anyway, Su Yung no-sold a hatchet to the head and then there was like a super hero battle, complete with special effects
