I don't like that there will only be one set of women's tag titles. The titles themselves look like shit... Some bootleg X division looking things. Finn will put on a hell of a match with Brock... in the same way AJ and Bryan did. And lose. But it will be fun and different. Or WWE could give us what we want... Let Finn win. Let Rollins win the Rumble and give us Finn vs Rollins for the title at Mania. A dream... is only that.
So Vince is back on TV and we get Mandy Rose in towel and someone walking in on Alexa topless? I'll take a bra and panties match next between those two
Alexa was making me feel things last night. I like the idea of Finn winning. You could run back the Heyman turn on Lesnar, but with McIntyre taking the place of Big Show. Gets the title off Brock and puts him in an organic program with McIntyre at Mania. Rollins/Balor could be second from the top for the title, and the women legitimately have the hottest program, and main event. Elevates everybody.
hmm, Alexa hot and what not, comes off as just a sad, desperate attempt to spice up a shitty show imo though has anything changed with the format these last few weeks?
for like 5 years you have posted about Heyman turning on Brock... at some point you need to let go of that dream. What do you mean McIntyre is taking the place of Big Show? Yeah they tried to pick the pace up and do less video playbacks. They have tried to have one angle lead into another. Changes are being made and for the most part they are better. Even some of the promos seem to be coming from the prospective of the character vs what Vince would say. But they still do stupid shit like having people do multiple segments. I think finn was in 5 segments last night. Corbin was in like 4... just to much of the same guys. Last week I think we saw Ronda in like 6 segments. Just overkill. We did have a title change last night. They are apparently dropping "look at my ass" lashley for a bad ass Lashley and he won the IC title. I think its clear the Ambrose turn shit the bed.
Probably because Ambrose just isn't good. He's as milquetoast as it comes in the ring and he just comes off as corny on the mic. As bad as Roman is, he gives us good matches. Ambrose is the one that has truly been pushed past his talent level by Vince because of the popularity of the Shield.
to be fair to Ambrose he made his name on the indy scene by doing off the wall matches and going very dark and beyond PG with his promos. He's probably had the most adjustment to make of the three. With that said he really found a sweet spot with his promo stuff in that documentary they did on his comeback. Had they let him just cut those he would be insanely hated. But nope they had him come out and shit on the fans and say they smell and then come out in a gas mask. That is Vince... all Vince.
When Heyman turned on Lesnar, he joined Show. I wish the clues in promos were actually clues. Last night Heyman raved about McIntyre being a future world champion, “but not yet”. On the surface, that would seem like he was saying not while Brock was still around. But what if he turned on Brock, cost him the title to Balor, and McIntyre didn’t focus his attention on the title until he ran Brock out of WWE? Now you look at Heyman’s little clue last night in a completely different way. If Brock leaves for the UFC, it gives McIntyre a piece he’s missing. Because it feels like he’s missing something, he’s just not doing it for me. Pairing him with Heyman gives Brock a meaningful program for Mania, away from the title, which is what we all want. And allows a ton of undersized guys like Balor/Styles/Cole whoever to be in the Universal title picture and it’s believable. It’s time to transition away from Brock for many different reasons. I was as anti-Roman as the next guy, but Brock also had a part in making Raw so stale. IMO, WWE was at its peak when you had a loaded main event scene with Angle/Taker/Rock/Stone Cold/Kane/Foley/HHH etc. I’m aware most of those guys are generational type talents, but being able to mix and match main events kept the title fresh and meaningful. They have a stacked roster now. It’s time to create some stars, and that doesn’t happen with Brock holding the title.
Heyman cuts the same promo the last time they did a fatal 4 way to decide the challenger. Its called putting over the guys. He's great at it. I wouldn't read into it anymore than just that. Brock isn't leaving the WWE anytime soon. If he's a part of WWE there is no way Heyman isn't right by his side. Drew doesn't need a mouthpiece. He cuts some of the best and intense promos on the roster right now. He's a stud.
Lawler said on his podcast he and JBL are calling the Mens Rumble... Fucking kill me now. I'm guessing Graves, Cole and Renee are calling the women's. Sucks for the Smackdown trio that is head and shoulders better than either of those combos. btw Finn is getting a crazy push... Those bitching during the AEW talks about how he's being wasted probably should've watched last night as Cena essentially put Finn over so well that i'm beliving he could win at the Rumble.
Drew is leaps and bounds better than he was the last time he was with WWE. Best heel on the roster and it isn't even close. Rollins needs to take the strap off Brock at WM and have a couple month feud ending with Drew winning. Heat Strowman back up again and have him finally win the title off of Drew at Summerslam.
This would be great if they didn’t spend half a year treating Balor like a JAG. Heating him up the past few months, letting him go a run, and then the Cena endorsement would make him feel like a much bigger deal. From what I’m reading today, he’s just there to eat the pin from Brock, because they don’t want Strowman losing to him again. So after the Rumble, Balor is right back where he started. I’d love to see him traded to Smackdown the night after the Rumble. There’s plenty of programs waiting for him there that make more sense. There’s just no upward trajectory for him currently on the Raw side of things.
My wife who doesn't normally watch RAW with me happened to be up and paying attention last night. When the four guys came out to set up the 4 way her first comment was "oh man he's small" and it was funny because Vince first line was in reference to his size. I say this because it seems like the guys who are on the smaller side all work for Smackdown. So I'm with you, I would move Finn to Smackdown for multiple reasons including it would be more believable for him to be champion on that brand. Not every superstar can be champion. Not every guy can be in the main event. Its like people bitching about KO. Yes he's not champ and yes he's not in the main event or winning a ton. But he's on every RAW and he's in big time programs just under the main event. Nothing wrong with that. Same goes with Finn. Its hard for me to belive they hate finn when they give him the title a month into his main roster run. Given how Vince singled out Finn for being a underdog and not really a legit contender, how they only had him win to get into the match and how Cena put him over crazy I wouldn't be shocked to see Finn somehow win at Rumble and drop the belt at one of the next two PPVs against Brock. I would do that because Rumble doesn't seem like its gonna have a wow moment and this could be it. Cause lots of buzz for the final run to Mania as well.
I'm sure Kenny putting on 7 star matches in front of 1,200 people in the arena and 600K on TV will really go a long way.
Smackdown and NXT are good and great. If you only watch RAW i get the frustration about WWE. Its the flagship show so I get it. But at the end of the day we don't have a six hundred page thread on NJPW, AEW, ROH or any of those small companies. WWE is the bigshow and people wanting the best in the world compete on that stage even with the flaws is only normal. I'm not a AEW hater I hope they do well. But what are we realisticlly expecting from them? 2 hour show on TNT or TBS? Will they tour? Or will they just book the TV show events and PPV. How big of a facility will they do shows in? 600-1,200 or 8k-10k? I doubt they are going to attempt basketball major stadiums anytime soon. How many people you think will tune in weekly? I think Impact was doing like 1m at its high point.
Your first point is pretty disingenuous since we talk about all of those other promotions in here. Your second point has no bearing on how "big stars" are treated by WWE. Just because you have more eyes on you doesn't mean is a better situation.
Pretty sure the only response to "what do you expect AEW to be" is "I don't know." Which is part of the fun. I know what WWE is going to be, the template has been done a million times, from the booking to the production to laying out the match. Everything AEW is TBD. It could be great, it could be horrible. I'm just ready for someone else to take a shot.
It’s discussed lightly. Nobody discusses the weekly shows from Impact, ROH or 3/4s of the NJPW stuff. When they have a big PPV it’s spoken about. Yeah who wants to play in the NFL when the CFL is around. I’m sure that 7th round rookie who was cut in NFL training camp that’s now a starter in Canada would say the CFL is a better situation. But it’s canada bro.
I'm expecting ROH with money from AEW. How successful they'll be is TBD. The audience likely isn't growing anymore at this point, so they'll have to turn profits from advertising imo.
You guys keep going back to this NFL analogy and it's not really accurate. It completely ignores the creative side of wrestling. Which, believe it or not, is important to some fans and performers. Not to mention there personal greater freedom vs a full time WWE schedule. It's more like working at a mid range company and deciding rather than take that promotion and move to the big guy, you'd rather take your shot at a start up. Everyone dreams of being their own boss. I'd think you'd understand that, but here we are.
TNA is like mopping the floors, ROH is like washing lettuce. NJPW is like being on fries. AEW is like the grille. WWE is making assistant manager, that's when the big bucks start rolling in.
I’m not hating on them for following there dreams or wanting creative freedoms. Being your own boss has its positives and negatives. I understand that aspect I’m simply addressing other aspects and when people shit on WWE and them giving TV to X Y or Z well what’s the alternative at this point.
she’s going to be fine and Lars will get a real push, but Heavy Machinery, Lacy Evans & EC3 already look like jokes.
Yeah, Nikki has been given the best debut, but really she debuted a while ago in that random match against Becky in the UK. EC3 has just been in the back ground staring at himself. Lacy at least was front and center staring at the screen tonight, unlike last night where she was just a blink and you miss her background piece. These are some of the weakest debuts I can remember.
Seems very familiar to how they brought Elias to the main roster. Just had him wandering in the background for a few weeks before turning him loose. Highly unlikely any of these debuts will ever catch fire quite like Elias, though
True, Elias debuted as the drifter. But I feel like that at least was his character that could go somewhere. I'm not really sure where they can even go with EC3 and Lacey if they just keep doing this.
Also, have I just missed it, but when did Andrade stop going by Cien Almas? Not surprised since the main roster shortens names routinely, but haven't noticed it before.
