The season has definitely been bad, but I loved every minute of it so far. Its just nostalgia for me.
Been pretty disappointing, but good to see Scully and Mulder again. Still pissed that they have Scully wearing a fucking wig, though. I've been most disappointed that they've ignored the main conspiracy for so long. They just had the first episode where Mulder seemed to just roll over and all of a sudden assume he's been misled all these years, and now the preview for the finale makes it seem like they are fitting an entire season into one episode. I still don't understand how Cancer Man could possibly be back. He had an Apache fire missiles right at him from basically point blank range on the original series.
Good catch. I didn't notice it at first glance. Still pretty preposterous, but whatever I guess. It's the X-Files.
Way too fucking rushed a resolution (quasi-resolution, as I know that it was a cliffhanger). Don't understand why they could only devote two of the six episodes to the central mythology. They wasted the first one mainly on exposition and had Mulder just buy into it too easily and then tried to culminate the whole fucking series in this one hour. I mean, I love seeing everyone again, but this was a disappointing run. I hope they come back and do it better next time.
i watched the last three episodes last night. I found it hit or miss. It was enjoyable though (especially the horned frog episode and the fifth one). Having gone back and watched the series over, there were many episodes that were nearly unwatchable. Because of that I had tempered expectations. They did try to do too much in so few episodes.
Finally watched last night. Pretty bad, but I still enjoyed it for the reasons mentioned earlier. That said, is it obvious we are getting more either in the form of a movie or a show?
would be nice to see them get a 10-12 episode run that way they could mix in some of the 'monster of the week' type episodes and still really flesh out the ongoing storyline.
Not sure how much ongoing storyline there could be after that episode. My guess is we get a movie culminating that plot line and then a series reboot with the two new agents with occasional guest appearances by Scully and Mulder.
On ep 4, I felt from the first ep that there would be some kind of story arc that carried throughout but I guess that's not the case.
Anything with the two wannabes will be awful. Half the reason to watch this run was just to have Mulder & Skully back.
Glad to see it but still nervous due to how bad and rushed that finale was. The alien invasion shit is basically 100% on now so not sure if they will have standalone cases.
If I remember right, after the last set, the alien invasion wasn't real. It was a front by the government.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE X-FILES: SEASON 11 Spoiler BY TERRI SCHWARTZ The X-Files will return on FOX, with an upgraded 10-episode Season 11. But what can we expect from the latest adventures of Mulder and Scully? FOX President of Entertainment David Madden offered several good teases of what to expect in Season 11 while at the 2017 summer TV Critics' Association press tour. Read below to find out everything we learned: There Will Be Eight Standalone Episodes and Two Mythology Episodes Following in the format of Season 10, The X-Files' eleventh season will be bookended by mythology episodes, but uses its expanded episode order to offer more standalone adventures. "The first episode will be a mythology episode, though it will be a much simpler mythology episode than last season. Then there will be eight standalone episodes, and [conclude with a mythology episode]," said Madden. "We'll touch on the mythology a little bit in those intervening episodes -- a little bit." He added of the standalone episodes, "They will be more classic X-Files, Mulder and Scully and other characters plunging into new adventures." "If you remember the ending where you saw the helicopter, it takes you right from there," said Madden. "We will then get launched into a very urgent adventure, which will have a lot to do with William, Mulder and Scully's kid. The search for William will be a significant thread through this show." "You will see the Cigarette Smoking Man. You may even see, maybe, some tip to the Lone Gunmen along the line. There will be other characters from the previous mythology that will be reprised." "Last season, we had the responsibility to explain to the audience what had happened in those intervening seven or eight years. We had to take the time to make sure really could track everything that had happened. We were freed from that responsibility this time around. We could just plunge in and tell the stories. It was a different experience, but we're having a lot of fun doing it. It's also fun to have more episodes, it gives us a chance to tell more stories." After it was initally revealed that the Season 11 writing staff would consist entirely of men, FOX CEO Dana Walden made the announcement at TCA that two women have since been added to the team. Additionally, TVLine announced Carol Banker and Holly Dale will be directing episodes in Season 11. Good lord, it's like Cris Carter even recognized that he totally botched the central mythology last season. Not crazy about how they retconned everything, as it made last season seem like a waste, but at the same time I'd glad they kind of erased last season's finale. I still didn't really care for this episode. Way too much voiceover shit, and it just seemed totally joyless with no electricity or real excitement. I have read that it improves from hereon out as well, so hopefully that's the case.
It was a great episode. The Mulder-Scully dynamic had the old feels working, too. They still have such great chemistry.
The season hit its stride once they started going monster of the week route. The last couple were great and felt like classic X-Files episodes, and then Carter once again stepped on his dick with the finale. What a shitshow of a way to wrap things up if this is really is a series finale. The central mythology was great when it was used over multiple seasons, but the way they tried to cram things together then retcon the last two seasons was awful. At least I'll never have to see that terrible William kid again. He was an awful actor, and his character was a total prick as well.
words and actions can be changed, but William is alive. they can work it in differently. As an aside, what was with Mulder and Scully's voices the past few weeks? They sounded really old, hoarse, and gravelly.
Yeah, I never thought he was dead even when Cancer Man shot him. He's like a mix of Wolverine/Spiderman/Legion. I just meant that the series is apparently over.
