Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Freddy back to Benfica? This would be great if they give him a chance to replace Di Maria http://planetbenfica.co.uk/print.php?news.1296
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Everton more than likely after some of the recent Man City moves. Thankfully.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Totally disagree. A move there would be great for his level of skill. Hapoel Tel Aviv is an upcoming squad that did pretty well last year. Beat Celtic FC and few solid German clubs. Solid second option after La Liga.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Wait, why would he not be able to get a passport at age 16 be an issue if his parents agree and he's sponsored by the team? From all I've read MLS just beat Arsenal to the punch...can you explain this more in detail?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Gil would need a passport from a E.U. country (not an American passport). The only possible way he could've gotten one is through Mexico (where is father was born), and then tried to get a Spanish passport. But that could've taken a couple years as Mexico isn't going to speed up the process to obtain a passport just so he can then try and get a Spanish passport. Lletget was able to go to West Ham because he holds an Italian passport through his grandfather.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Oh god, terrible source but I hate the idea of this. Donovan to Liverpool now that Yossi left? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/411107-donovan-to-liverpool-fc-the-yanks-just-might-make-it-happen
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Disagree. The Israeli league is pretty shitty except for a few top teams that can play in Europe. La Liga would be the best choice and I would personally like to see him with a top Dutch team if he can't go to La Liga.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 What I don't understand is why someone at the age of 16 can't get a sponsor from a job if the parent agrees to it. I'm honestly very ignorant on this process. What's the actual law on this?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Hapoel Tel Aviv is one of those few top teams, but I do agree on your sentiments with La Liga/top Dutch teams. I just don't think that's going to be a serious option for him.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I quoted the exact FIFA rule a few posts up. They really started cracking down on this since Jan. 1 of last year, and it's stupid quite frankly, but they'll still allow EPL teams to purge youth players from other E.U. countries without having to pay anything. Charles Renken and Jospeh Gyau have to stay at Vancouver until they're 18 until they can move to Hoffenheim, Gyau turns 18 soon, but Renken doesn't turn 18 until late 2011 (like Gil).
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 edit: Sorry I overlooked the post where you linked it, sorry let me read it.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Ok, that rule is all sorts of dumb. What was the rule previous to the EU? Sorry for the questions, but I'm a completely ignorant on passports for youth in soccer. Was the Arsenal deal going to be for once he turned 18 then? That makes much more sense than the MLS getting him underneath their nose.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Gil has trained on and off with Arsenal the past 2 years or so, and also trained with Real Madrid too. I don't know the specifics of Gil's contract with MLS but I read it does contain small loans to go train with Arsenal's academy (I'm assuming during the MLS offseason), and I wouldn't be surprised if Arsenal's has first rights to purchase Luis once he turns 18. Before this rule, it was free for any player to go to any team before he turned 18, but just wasn't able to play as a pro until he turned 18 if he didn't have a passport from an E.U. country.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Movsisyan scored 2 goals today in Europa League 1st Round qualifier in 6-1 against Dudelange (Luxemburg). Here's a highlight of Yura's goals at Randers last year, some nice goals. Yura Movsisyan Tribute 09/10
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Anyone hear that Michael Ryan Hoyos was called up to Argentina's U-20 team? I cant find anything on it though. Also does anyone know what other country Sebastian Lletget is eligible to play for?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Italy He could be the next Rossi and live out user :aero: Azzuri's biggest dream.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 "If I got the chance, I would probably take it," Lletget acknowledged without taking much time for a second thought. "My heart's always going to be with the U.S., it's just that playing for a European team is amazing. It's just a higher level. That's how far I want to push it." This is a quote from Lleget on possibly playing for Italy over the US .
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 ugh that sucks, does he not see whats going on with Rossi? Rossi has not really gotten a fair chance with Italy and I know some Italians consider Rossi more American than Italian
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 This would be worse then Rossi because his parents are American and he got his passport through his Grandpa.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 whatever, its not like this is an issue that is ever going away, it sucks but at this point its the nature of the game and there isnt really anything we can do
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Here's a quote from Lletget from September: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/superelite-soccer/united-states-football-club-archives/nid-9760 Also, in December he participated in an U-20 camp in San Diego, and Spector has also befriended Sebastian.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 18 y/o FW Dustin Correa from Portland, OR has interest from Fiorentina, Palermo, and Genoa.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Looks like we could be getting a new player in the U.S. pool, thus a new Yank Abroad. Alex Zahavi, a 19 y/o LM from Sporting Lisbon's system. If Greg Garza also turns into a future LB for the U.S., then this kid will be a hero.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 reading snowfx posts is easier than trying to keep up with all of these kids on my own.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I follow it almost like recruiting, but I just relay all the info I find on bigsoccer to here, where there's people that follow it 10x as much as I do.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 hey, good enough for me and I appreciate it. keeping up with kids who don't pan out is extra time I don't have any more, but I still love it so I appreciate getting little bits from people who do follow it and know what they're saying.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 yea man, I appreciate the effort as well. I'm always lurking in this thread.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 its actually kind of sad how much im looking forward to the next U-20 World Cup Lletget McInerny Bowen Agbossoumonde Zahavi (maybe) Hoyos (maybe) Okugo Garza as talented as Adu/Altidore/Bradley/Rogers/Zizzo (personal favorite) team in 07?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Yep and Mwanga could be there. Some good college players that will likely be pro in MLS or Europe after this coming college season: Kofi Sarkodie, RB, Akron Dillon Powers, DM, Notre Dame (was on the 2009 U-20 team) Zarek Valentin, CB, Akron Speaks to our depth that kids like Luis Gil, Charles Renken, and Will Packwood possibly won't be there, but they're eligible for the 2013 U-20 WC. I'm hoping Birmingham City converts Packwood to a CB. And our GK depth is even by our standards, Earl Edwards might not even make this team or just be like the 3rd string.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Charlie davies played 45 minutes in a preseason friendly today, no reports of how he looked though.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I think all of them will be in Europe within 3 years at the most, Mwanga probably to Ligue 1 once he gets citizenship. McInerney had an offer from Vitesse in the Eredivisie, but didn't want to wait until he's 18 and I think MLS came in with a nice $$$ offer.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 after seeing all 3, without a doubt. I keep seeing people say how good Sarkodie is; anyone seen him play?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I think he's arguably the top player in college this coming year and at least the best player on Akron, which is turning into a factory in terms of talent. If he joins MLS next season, he'll probably be one of the top couple picks in the draft, which means he'll probably also have some decent Euro options as well. The few games I saw him play, he's basically Marvell Wynne with much better skill, touch, and awareness.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I love this thread because of posts like this, the RB you just described could be one of the top RB's in the world
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Yep, he would've normally been a RM at least with this skillset a few years back. Just kind of how Greg Garza was a CM on the '07 U-17 team, but Sporting converted him to a LB. Or both could play as a wing back type in a 3-5-2.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Snow is Zarek Valentin the young brother of Julian Valentin? What U20 goalies are ahead of Edwards? Also Hoyos chooses us.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Yes he is. Zac MacMath (Maryland), Samir Badr (FC Porto), and Cody Cropper (Ipswich Town) are possibly ahead of Edwards at this time and they've been in the U-20 setup a little longer. Badr was Edwards backup in Bradenton before he left for Porto, but I don't know how Rongen sees it. And Bill Hamid missed being eligible for this team by like 30 days.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 How close is Mwanga to getting US citizenship? I heard it is could still be years. By then Mwanga will likely be in France who will no doubt get him citizenship in like a week.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Damn I totally forgot about Badr. I knew Hamid was just at the cut. Our GK depth is going to be ridiculous for years to come. Not a bad problem to have.
