Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Really expect to see City make a move for a young American in the future. The club is making a big push to get into the US market.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 From what it sounds like, it should be June next year, as it's 5 years to get citizenship when granted political asylum and he came here in June '06.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I am torn on the push into the US market tbqh. I have not seen too many City fans out and about in my travels. But it is part of the globalization of City.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Onyewu to Chievo Verona? They finished 8th in Serie A last season. http://www.rossoneriblog.com/milan-set-to-swap-onyewu-with-chievos-23-year-old/
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jones and Davies Also what are your thoughts of Jones being able to contribute for the next WC cycle as he will be 32 when it is time for Brazil.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Charlie's played in a couple friendlies so far but apparently looked rusty as hell out there (to no surprise), it might not be until halfway through the season until Charlie might be back to 100%, and that is if he ever regains his true form. Jones is back in full training with Schalke, and I definitely think he'll be a part of this next cycle, hoping he's fit enough for the Brazil friendly.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 thanks. with the injuries Charlie sustained, getting back to 100% would be a huge accomplishment. great news on Jones. I honestly assumed he was farther off than that.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 32 isn't too old for a Defensive Midfielder, but Bradley and Edu will be in their primes at 26 and 28 respectively, so Jones would have to be playing at a high level to beat them out. Definitely think Jones can at least provide quality depth. On Davies, I just hope that he is able to get back to 100% whether it be in 6 months or 2 years.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jones is SO good that even at 32 he could still be our best player outside of Howard
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Dominic Cervi is may get a lot more action now between the pipes (if we don't get some one else) due to the sale of Arthur Boruc to Fiorentina. he'll probably get at least one match, if not more, during the American tour.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jozy has serious interest from two Turkish teams, Bursapor and Besiktas. Bursapor is the defending champs and is qualified for the CL group stage, and Besiktas finished 3rd and is in the Europa League. There's also apparently some Ligue 1 interest as well as the other rumors like Palermo, Napoli, Ajax, and Espanyol. Beasley has interest from a team in France and Spain, and one is in the Europa League, presumably PSG who's been linked with Beasley in the past. Mix Diskerud started and drew a PK today in Stabaek's 2-2 draw in their 1st leg of a Europa League playoff. Sacha Kljestan started and played 75' for Anderlecht in a preseason tourney game against Koln. It was a mix of starters and subs for Anderlecht, but looks like Sacha could be one of their top subs early on, which is pretty good news.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I've heard that Blackpool has interest in Beasley as well. Would love for Jozy to go to the Eridivisie (sp), but not to Ajax since he would most likely not start. Teams like PSV, Twente, etc. would be pretty good fits.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Rennes announce agreement to sell Carlos Bocanegra to Saint-Etienne for around 500,000 euros.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Mix Diskerud had a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw for Stabaek, highlights: http://watchsocceronline.blogspot.com/2010/07/diskerud-scores-in-stabk-draw.html
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 How good is he supposed to be? He has a really good rating on FIFA for his age, but I've never seen him play.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I'd say he'll be one of our top players for the 2012 Olympics, and he'll be in the pool for the 2014 WC. I could see him moving to a solid 2nd tier Euro league within the next year or so. Hopefully he gets called up for the Gold Cup and we can cap tie him permanently.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 This, glad we got someone that knows and follows all this as I don't and am very interested to know how our guys do
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I played with him growing up, too bad he didn't get some more appearances. Hopefully he can find a spot soon, regardless of where
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 in Superliga action, Jose Francisco Torres was subbed off @ the 55' mark for his club Pachua with them behind 1-0 to Puebla (Hercules Gomez' old team). he didn't appear hurt and looked frustrated coming off. he didn't seem to be playing bad, tho he had just missed a free kick from about 30 yards out moments before. couldn't keep up with what the announcers were saying. Gomez played well up top on the right side, but Pachua went down a man and fell apart for the most part. he did have a nice run away from the ball that helped open up the middle on the Pachua goal. Marco Vidal came in @ 79' in to the midfield but I didn't see much from him. 3-1 Puebla over Pachua.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 He's been linked to Celtic and more recently Ajax and Besiktas http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2010/07/ajax-besiktas-eyeing-altidore.html
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Bornstein has signed a 4 year contract with Tigres in Mexico, and will join after his contract runs out at the end of the year. Eric Lichaj scored in a friendly today for Aston Villa and played 90 minutes with what was mostly starters for Villa, and he apparently played very well overall.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 really good move for Bornstein. nice to see him and Sasha move out of MLS this year. good to hear about Lichaj too.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Movsisyan scored (again) on Sunday in the 1st week of Danish Superleague action in a 3-2 win for Randers. His goal comes at about the 2:35 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukYud61oaVo&feature=player_embedded#!
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Yes. Not a lot of options at striker and Movsisyan is scoring goals in bunches right now. Got to get citizenship first, but that is a formality at this point I believe. Not the best prospect but worth following simple because he has been finding the back of the net routinely.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 any chance we can get the OP updated with a list of all Americans playing abroad? I'm sure there has been one built up somewhere, but just so it's easy to find?
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=players Here's a list is OP wants to use it. Not sure if it's completely current.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 put the list in the OP minus the MLS players. I might have missed some, but the list didn't seem accurate as Holden was listed with the MLS still but I changed it. snowy, feel free to add and fix anything, I just did it as I'm bored at work currently
