Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 After all the hype and speculation surrounding a major transfer for Michael Bradley in the aftermath of the World Cup, the 23-year-old New Jersey native stayed put at Borussia Monchengladbach, and the Bundesliga club couldn't be happier to have him. Bradley scored the opening goal in his team's DFB Pokal (German Cup) first-round victory on Saturday, executing a give-and-go with Mohamadou Idrissou and bouncing a sliding volley from about nine yards out into the goal in the 39th minute to keep up his run of good form. While Bradley did play for his club, the United States' midweek 2-0 friendly loss against Brazil perhaps affected the playing time for some of Bradley's national teammates as Carlos Bocanegra, Sacha Kljestan, Clarence Goodson and Jonathan Spector did not feature for their respective clubs over the weekend. Here's a brief summary of the last week for the Americans plying their trade abroad (season statistics encompass all competitions): ENGLAND Premier League Clint Dempsey, M, Fulham -- In the 18, came on as a 75th-minute substitute in the Cottagers' 0-0 draw at Bolton on Saturday. It appears that Dempsey will have to win over new manager Mark Hughes for a consistent spot in Fulham's starting XI. SEASON: 1 game Brad Friedel, GK, Aston Villa -- Started, played 90 minutes and made one save to notch a clean sheet in the Villans' 3-0 home victory over West Ham on Saturday. SEASON: 1 game, 1 start, 1 save, 1 clean sheet, 0 goals allowed Brad Guzan, GK, Aston Villa -- In the 18, did not play in Aston Villa's 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday. Barring a Friedel injury or transfer, Guzan doesn't figure to see much time between the pipes for Aston Villa in league play for yet another season. SEASON: 0 games Marcus Hahnemann, GK, Wolves -- Started, played 90 minutes and made two saves in Wolves' 2-1 home victory over Stoke City on Saturday. SEASON: 1 game, 1 start, 2 saves, 1 goal allowed Stuart Holden, M, Bolton -- Started, played 90 minutes in Bolton's 0-0 draw with Fulham on Saturday. Holden impressed manager Owen Coyle upon his arrival to Reebok Stadium, and he should be a fixture in a young, but promising, midfield for Bolton this season. He hit the post on a shot during the match and said on the team website, "We can take pride in the fact that we know we should have won that game and the chances are coming. You'd be worried if we weren't creating chances, but the goals will come if we maintain that energy level and that type of team spirit throughout the season." SEASON: 1 game, 1 start Tim Howard, GK, Everton -- Started, played 90 minutes and made one save in the Toffees' 1-0 loss at Blackburn on Saturday, but the normally-sure-handed Howard committed an uncharacteristic error and was solely to blame for the lone goal. Howard came off his line to try to beat Nikola Kalinic to a flicked-on ball at the top of the area, and after leaping to grab the ball, he dropped it as he came to the ground, leaving Kalinic with an empty net and a clear look at goal. SEASON: 1 game, 1 start, 1 save, 1 goal allowed Eddie Johnson, F, Fulham -- Not in the 18 for Fulham's 0-0 draw with Bolton on Saturday. SEASON: 0 games Eric Lichaj, D, Aston Villa -- In the 18, did not play in Aston Villa's 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday. The fact that Lichaj, 21, is already cracking the gameday roster for Villa is a sign of good things on the horizon for one of the United States' top fullback prospects. SEASON: 0 games Jonathan Spector, D, West Ham -- In the 18, did not play in the Hammers' 3-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday. SEASON: 0 games Championship Conor Doyle, F, Derby County -- In the 18, came on as a 70th-minute substitute in Derby County's 2-1 loss to Cardiff City on Saturday. SEASON: 1 game, 1 start Ricardo Clark, M, Eintracht Frankfurt -- In the 18, did not play in Frankfurt's 4-0 victory over SV Wilhelmshaven in the DFB Pokal on Friday. SEASON: 0 games Jared Jeffrey, M, FSV Mainz 05 -- Not in the 18 for Mainz' 2-1 victory over Berliner AK 07 in the DFB Pokal on Sunday. SEASON: 0 games Jermaine Jones, M, FC Schalke 04 -- Started, played 90 minutes in Schalke's 2-1 victory over VfR Aalen in the DFB Pokal on Monday. Jones appears to have fully recovered from a broken leg that severely sidetracked his 2009-2010 campaign and any chance he had at competing for the United States in the FIFA World Cup. After receiving an invitation to play in the friendly against Brazil (but respectfully declining it due to wanting to make sure he is 100 percent fit for his first-ever U.S. cap), Jones figures to feature for the United States in its rumored friendlies later this year. SEASON: 1 game, 1 start Daniel Williams, D, SC Freiburg -- In the 18, came on as a 73rd-minute substitute in Freiburg's 1-0 victory over FC Oberneuland 1948 in the DFB Pokal on Saturday. SEASON: 0 games Greg Garza, D, Sporting Lisbon -- Not in the 18 for Lisbon's 1-0 loss to Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday. Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jozy has been named to Villarreal's gameday roster for their Europa League qualifying game on Thursday.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Guzan and Lichaj are in the starting lineup for Villa's Europa qualifier against Rapid Vienna, kicks off at 12:45et.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Villa's game ends 1-1, Lichaj and Guzan went the whole 90' Lichaj looked shaky at times, but played better in the 2nd Half. It was his first ever meaningful game for Villa and were playing with a lot of youngsters who hadn't played much as a unit. Guzan had a couple very nice saves.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jozy played the final 20 minutes in Villarreal's 5-0 victory, apparently he almost had a goal but the GK made a great save. I wouldn't be surprised if Jozy starts the 2nd leg as I bet Villarreal will sit most of their starters.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 :oshit: Jozy is starting for Villarreal in the Europa 2nd leg at noon et, but looks like no stream for the game
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Mix Diskerud scored a goal today, and last week he had two assists. I could see him getting a call up for the Poland and/or Colombia friendlies, but he'll definitely be at the January camp regardless of coach. Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Description of Bradley's play in Gladbach's 6-3 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen: During the highlights I saw, they show Bradley and Ballack having some words, Bradley is just one intense dude on the field.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Good Stuff. Bradley is a beast. I think Bradley has a chance to be one of the US best players ever. Not saying a lot, but think Bradley can be great. He is already really good.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 There's not an American player ever by the time he was 23 that had started at the level of four full seasons like Bradley. Two seasons in the Eredivisie (scored 20 goals his last season with Heerenveen) and two seasons in the Bundesliga (in his 3rd now), and he's scored in the WC, Confederations Cup, and U-20 WC. John O'Brien is probably the closest, and even Reyna didn't break through at Wolfsburg until he was 24 y/o.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 could've been the best American midfielder (and possibly player) ever. I would like to see if Coach Bradley will switch to a 4-5-1 considering our relative strengths for the future is our CM (Holden, Bradley, Edu, Jones, Torres, etc.) and attacking wingers (Donovan, Dempsey, Bedoya, and potentially guys like Kandji and Bowen) combined with the lack of a quality striker.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Sky Sports gave Edu an 8 for his performance against Man Utd, tied for the highest of any player in the game.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 New to the board but been readin it for a little while. Thought i'd put this in here, even though it's in Spanish. Basically Santos Laguna and Celtic signed an agreement where Celtic can get first rights to their players and they decided to use it in bringing in Adrian Ruelas, who has repped the U-20 team. Hopefully Ruelas can develop his game in Scotland. http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/mexico/noticias/2010/09/15/juvenil-santista-fue-prestado-al-celtic
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jozy is starting in Villareal's Europa game against Dinamo Zagreb right now.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Adrian Ruelas is apparently joining Celtic from Santos Laguna. The dreaded work permit issue seeming still needs to be resolved so he can actually play, but Celtic probably liked what they saw from Ruelas at the Milk Cup.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I guess he was so-so, Villarreal lost 2-0. Apparently his hold up play was strong but struggled in the final 1/3, but Villarreal's MF was outplayed, especially after Senna was
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Dempsey, Feilhaber (PK), and Goodson (corner) all scored this weekend. Here's Dempsey's goal: http://videa.hu/videok/sport/blackburn-fulham-1-league-liga-premier-rhMXUvWNZLsFRFCb
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Feilhaber notched a hat-trick in the 4th Round of the Danish Cup. 2 were PKs.

Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 New article up on mediotiempo about Adrian Ruelas. Put it through google translate for you no-spanish speaking slackers.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 I think he's a lock to be on the U-20 team since we've pulled him away from Mexico and it'd be kind of a slap in the face not to call him in, and he's probably good enough regardless. He'll basically be cap-tied to the U.S. if he plays in an official youth tourney (i.e. CONCACAF U-20 championships, U-20 WC), and would have to file a one-time FIFA switch (like Jermaine Jones) if he wanted to play for Mexico, which I doubt will happen. Even though he's on Celtic and Edu is on Rangers, hopefully Mo reaches out to Adrian as well, they're both from the same home town of Fontana, CA.
Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Jozy has scored for Villarreal in their Copa Del Rey game. There's no TV for the game, so it's been followed on a match tracker, hopefully some vid will come out.

Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 Aside from that unfortunate own goal, Edu is beasting right now. I wouldn't be surprised if some bigger clubs come sniffing around next summer. Mo's sweet goal with his opposite foot today: Rangers Edu Goal v Inverness CT Oct 30th 2010

Re: Yanks Abroad '10-'11 From what I've read, it's not too serious, just a mild ankle sprain. Hopefully he doesn't rush it back and it continues to linger.
