I'm not excusing the teachers. I'm just saying we literally have hundreds of years of data that show that some people can't exercise control so maybe we should learn from that and put people in positions where it's less likely to happen. Just doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results is dumb.
One of my HS math teachers was busted for fucking a student sometime within the last couple years. She was one of my teachers back in like 2002 and she already had to be like 38 for sure by then.
So you want 23 year olds to start out banging 7 year olds and work their way up to 16 year olds. Bold strategy, Cotton.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Teachers shouldn’t fuck students. Some should go to jail all should lose their jobs.
I know it’s your MO to draw a line in the sand, find the nearest hill, and defend it to the death. With that said, I genuinely want to ask, do you really, truly think this would make a significant difference? Especially considering how greatly it would upset the entire educational balance in our society? “Wow. You are an incredibly gifted physics teacher. Too bad you are under 30. Welcome to teaching basic arithmetic until you’re 30...”
Could you imagine courting/seducing a 16 year old girl for sex at our age? Once you get out of teens (20) that’s bad or say you hit 21 and hit the bars, but still talking to a 16 yr old, that’s pathetic. The age gap eventually shrinks for love, but not at age 16.
Yes, I think it would make a difference. As others have said, 23 yr olds mixed with 17 yr olds is way different than 45 yr olds mixed with 17 yr olds. It would still happen but I think it would cut down on it at least a little.
Definitely not but that’s not the point I was making. No point in trying anymore either bc it’s turned into a waste of time. Others have even reiterated my point but that seems lost.
I wasn’t arguing your point. You just mentioned 16 is a flat age gap in many states and I was just generally commenting about how weird I would feel hitting on a 16 year old. Although I did recently watch Can’t Hardly Wait with Jennifer Love Hewitt and that might be worth going to jail for.
What about the cases of women in their mid-late 20s doing this with middle schoolers? Should we just bump it up to 30 years old for middle school and 35-40 for HS?
We already have an issue in America with bright young minds not wanting to become teachers. Pay is obviously the #1 issue, but you also now want to add an age limit to teach higher level classes? You want to tell a passionate young want to be educator he/she will not only have to suffer a 24-30K a year paycheck, but they will also be saddled with teaching basic subjects until they’re 30? Yeah. Good luck closing the education gap from the US and other countries.
I was in debate my freshman year of HS & years later that male teacher was arrested for molesting 15 y.o. asian male foreign exchange student. A few other student came forward later and he served time in prison. Ironically his name was Richard Young, but we all called him "Dick".
No, you're taking my statement way too far. All I'm saying is that a 23 yr old and a 17 yr old are more likely to hook up than a 17 yr old and a 45 yr old. Teacher, church, work, whatever. The situation doesn't matter. People closer in age tend to hook up more than people with large gaps in age. Do you really disagree with this statement? Again, I'm not excusing the teachers. I'm just looking at the natural attractions of humans on average. There will always be outliers.
Yet you seem to make it your job on this forum to hammer people down when it comes to every possible interpretation of their posts. Why even bring it up as an option if you don’t find it feasible? How would you impose age limits to teaching in schools without an extremely negative impact overall in our educational system, which is also steadily falling behind other first world countries, dblplay1212 ?
Why did you tag me when you quoted me? The tag doesn't even give an alert when you quoted the person. And Jesus, you're taking this way too far. I presented something I think would help in a perfect world. Sorry that bothers you so much. Have a good night.
Age of consent laws are generally different when it comes to people in places of authority, like a teacher/student relationship, as they rightfully should be. In Michigan age of consent is 16, but in the case above it’s 18 and the student must be graduated. I believe it was also discussed in another thread but some states have carve outs for the “18 dating a 16 year old” situation given earlier
This is what should happen but at some point shouldn't we learn from what actually does happen and maybe try to adjust? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. We know that putting young teachers in hs's results in more teacher-student affairs. Continuing to do it and expecting different results is dumb.
You’ve already acknowledged that your idea isn’t feasible so I know it’s your thing, but why you keep trying to argue for something you don’t even think would actually be able to be implemented is dumb. Stop.
Bc people like you continue with "They just shouldn't do it!" while refusing to acknowledge that they are going to continue to do it. We're doing nothing to prevent it. Doing nothing and expecting things to change is insane. Maybe the next time you say "They shouldn't do it!" it'll actually make them stop. Go ahead and say "People should stop committing mass murder!" too please. Maybe those guys will listen too since we're not doing anything about that either. My idea may not be feasible but there has to be some change implemented. We had 800 teachers prosecuted last year. 800! And we're doing nothing to stop it.
Your plan doesn’t even make sense if it was feasible. You keep ignoring the part about that this keeps happening in middle schools, not just high schools. You’re treating this like it’s simply they’re too close in age so it’s bound to happen, but it’s not. I don’t have a plan, because I’m not sure how you’re supposed to stop this but what good does raising the age do if people in their mid-late 20s are having sex with 13-15 year olds. Your thought seems to be hoping they age out of being a pedophile
Again, I'm not saying it's feasible, but a wider age gap between teachers and students would lower the amount of times it happens. It would still happen, just not as frequently.
Students need to exercise some self-restraint as well. I managed to go through high school without banging a single hot teacher. None of them ever offered, but still.
Arkansas had a law against this but sometime in the recent past the Ar S.Ct. ruled it was unconstitutional to put a restriction on who consenting adults can have sex with so they changed it to only apply to students under 18. Now a teacher can legally bang an 18 year old student. They will surely be fired but it’s not illegal. I’m surprised more states haven’t had that law challenged.
Most teachers don’t fuck their students. We aren’t animals people can and do control their urges. Teachers fucking students isn’t the norm. Next thing you’ll say is women shouldn’t be alone with men (they aren’t married to) without a chaperone since men and women fuck.
Most people don't use guns to commit mass murders. Are you in favor for changes to the way we handle guns and mental health or do you just say people should stop committing mass murders and hope for the best? Again, changing nothing and expecting different results is just dumb. You can sit and say people shouldn't do something as much as you want but we have enough data at this point to know that people are in fact going to do it.
Hot teacher thread? This is the teachers shouldn’t molest students thread. And no “we” didn’t bring anything itt. That’s just dbl wanting to argue and I am not falling for it.
Yes, especially when the circumstances involve a person in power/trust/responsibility (teacher) and a subject/dependent (student)
No, but that’s not the issue and what people like you fail to understand. Consent isn’t black and white. There are factors that impact a given party’s ability to consent, both in realistic practice and legally.
I’m not saying teachers shouldn’t face penalties for doing something against public policy. I’m saying it shouldn’t be criminal. There are other ways to punish them and keep them from being in a place of power or influence again without registering them as a sex offender or putting a permanent stain on their criminal record.
What if a female grad student fucks her professor? When does the unethical become illegal? Most people become consenting adults by their first year in college.
But they're literally using their power and influence to commit a sex crime. You're either arguing a person in a position of dependence can give proper consent or not. You're looking at it from the position of power's point of view, which you're perfectly welcome to do. In terms of sex crimes, I'm of the opinion that we should hedge on the side of potential victims. To distill it a bit, we're talking about criminalizing potential coercion or not. Will every situation involve active coercion? Absolutely not. Passive coercion is still dangerous and detrimental to subordinates, even if they don't recognize it themselves. With that said, sentencing latitude definitely needs to come into play, but that's where our legal system often fails. Thus, I understand where you're coming from, I just don't think it's right to fully absolve someone in power, even if the coercion is passive in nature. It's inappropriate, the person in power has the ultimate choice (more so than the subordinate), and it's their responsibility to avoid criminalized behavior imo.
In Michigan I understand it that teachers can't have sex with their students at all, regardless of their age. I'm ok with that. In workplace or scenarios outside of school I guess I question whether the subordinate party can truly give consent.
Is this the thread where we post good looking female teachers who have inappropriate and illegal sexual relations with their minor students?
