while managing a team sponsored by t mobile, in the city where sprint is headquartered. none of it makes sense to me
oh man that would suck. there's no way a move is made until the new ownership group take over, right?
Based Sherman is our only hope. You know Dayton would LOOOOVE Matheny. Hates gays and brown people. Plays aging vets over younger more talented player because they “get the game.” Aka they love to bunt and love Jesus.
In a weird way I'm going to miss Ned. I never considered him to be a good manager and there are likely a ton of posts made by me ITT bashing him, but I came full circle on him and really like him now. Perhaps it's because his in-game decisions aren't as scrutinized because we are dogshit and it doesn't really matter. Shoot me if we actually hire Matheny. What an awful, lazy hire that would be.
Never expected to catch feels watching Ned take out a line up card but kind of did. Him Foxworthy and Earnhardt will have some good times in the farm I’m sure. Jorge just needs 2 more today to get his 50. Just broke the record for most HRs by a Cuban born player in a single season. Really think Alex comes back from his body language.
Sigh. One of my patients works for the Royals. Due to hippa shit I’ll just say he isn’t a higher up by any means but he isn’t the peanuts guy either, in between those 2 levels. I asked him straight up who everyone is thinking will be manager. He said everyone at Kauffman is 90% sure it’ll be Matheny and no one is happy about it. Hopefully Sherman shuts that down and starts the process of moving Dayton to a non decision making position. Until then I’ll just keep remembering the good times:
Oh most definitely. I'm hoping this is just the owner being a patient, pragmatic guy. Don't want to come in on day one and blow shit up and be a reactionary Jerry Jones type. The sensible thing to do is to come in and get a lay of the land before making changes. Give DM enough rope to hang himself, which I'm sure will happen sooner than later. If this is the case, it just sucks wasting a season before the changes begin. But this is a guy coming from the organization that runs a smart FO and has Francona as manager - he knows what a good organization looks like. I hope he does, anyway.
I don't like the hire, but we all knew it was coming. And I'd bet that the bulk majority of us were all on board the fire Ned train back in 2014 (if not further along than that) and now he's going to have his own statue at the K at some point. I doubt it works out, but I've been wrong a couple times in my life, so I'm willing to attend a few games and drink expensive beers at the K next season like I always do.
Kind of where I'm at. I'd bet a substantial sum of money Matheny isn't the manager the next time we make a postseason. Now, we can debate the impact a manager has on developing young players, but in the end, he's just a placeholder IMO. However, if he lets the shenanigans develop here that did in KC w/r/t bullying young players, etc. I hope we are quick to move on. But what I hate about it was summed up well by a commenter on RR: " I just hate the things this hire implies about the way decisions are made in this organization."
What a lazy, uninspiring hire. Matheny was universally hated and run out of town by (and it pains me to say this) one of the best run organizations in the MLB. Sure man, you were hated by fans AND players but let's go ahead and see what you got!
My brother in law is fron STL and asked me what reliever Matheny is going to run into the effing ground next year.
Listened to Dayton this morning. It was Mathenys fault he ran the Cards into the ground, it was more to do with social media. So there’s that. Also, Matheny took an analytics course last year... In other news the Mets hired Beltran.
