Been down a Michael Franzese rabbit hole recently. Think a lot of his act is phony but tells some great stories. Looks incredible for his age and great speaker, Sammy Gravano otoh looks like an old ass meth head and can’t understand anything he says
I watched some of the Franzese channel but it seems like he tells the same 3 stories over and over and yeah he also seems like a bit of a grifter.
It certainly had a significant impact on my life in its own way; I was at a point where I was contemplating a career change at the time and the mania around the video got me looking at the idea of finding an ESL job in Korea. One of the best decisions I ever made.
seems odd for amazon to pay youtubers to do that on youtube when they have twitch streamers who do it on twitch
Mr. Beast seems like a legit good dude. He does sort of stupid shit sometimes with his money because he’s really young and probably doesn’t have the best advisors but he regularly gives away 6+ figures to strangers. And cars and houses and other stuff. He gave away a million dollars to the winner of a contest and had a financial advisor help him out to make sure he had good advice on how to handle it. And his way to gain subscribers was really smart. Basically gave all his ad money away in stunts to get new subscribers and views. Pretty sure his margins are crazy thin because of how much money they give away or use on videos but it’s made him incredibly successful. He also owns a free food bank and started a burger chain that gives away free food. In a world where there’s plenty of shitbags that my kids could like he’s out there doing a lot of charity to get famous. Mr. Beast and Dude Perfect are my fav YouTube vids for my kids to like because of that.
My kid is getting a “YouTuber Starter Kit” from his grandparents for X-Mas this year. Agree with the MrBeast love. One of the better ones he watches. One of his burger places is like a mile away, he loves getting take out from there because he’s sure he’ll bite into a $100 bill.
Don’t know where else to put this. But this is a great video. And this channel has several documentary type videos that are interesting but this one was just touching in a way from a topic you never would expect.
How did he get started? Most of the videos I see of him is him giving a ton of money away. Obviously he had to build up to get the money to do that. Is there a good background video on him? Agree, seems like a great guy, even if giving away money is a big part of what makes him money to start with.
in short though he basically just did stupid videos like counting to 100,000 or other things that took 8-20 hours then he got deals, started to give that money away which were videos that blew him up more, got bigger deals/more ad rev so videos got bigger and bigger, etc
He's also got what I would call a PhD in the Science of Streaming Content. He knows his analytics and has thoroughly investigated every aspect of what makes enjoyable content on the platform. Dude has grinded like crazy since he was young and Youtube is all he's ever cared about.
yeah hes done some horrendous poverty and criminal justice tourism type vids guy is obsessed with views and that really seems to be it. he openly admits getting the most views and making billions of dollars are the two stats he cares about.
MrBeast has talked about spending $1M on a video and not liking it so it doesn’t get posted. It’s wild to think that some of the stuff he does never gets seen. He was on a podcast talking about hiring talent and he said it’s easier hiring someone who knows nothing about YouTube and analytics and his vision and training them than taking someone who’s worked for other content creators and reprogramming how they think. He talked about having to let certain people go but always trying to help them find a landing spot elsewhere. Seems like an awesome dude.
the latter he's explicitly stated on podcasts he's done and yes ME AND THE BOYS SPENDING 24 HOURS IN JAIL is criminal justice tourism
you can think he's a net good in the world and admit his brand of view/money maximalism leads to ethically questionable content on occasion
I think he and his friends are sometimes tone deaf because they’re in their early 20s. I don’t think it’s anything more than that.
I didn’t know who Mr Beast was until a friend won a car from him for stopping and helping them change a tire for one of his videos. Seems like a cool enough dude.
I didn't know who he was until his shadow kitchen burger joint popped up in my food delivery app. I then still didn't know explicitly who he was until the last couple pages of this thread.
No I think you’re taking it too seriously when it’s not meant to be that consumed that way. I have the target market living in my house. His shit isn’t meant for you.
Again, you said my entire post was false, that's what I'm pointing out as complete nonsense. If you want to have a separate discussion that's fine.
It's not tourism ya ninny. Kids don't even know what that is. Kids play games all the time that simulate things like being chased by the FBI. It's called hide and seek (which he has other videos of). Jesus christ.
What does a challenge where a bunch of people sit in a giant cereal bowl full of milk and cereal say about our waste of resources as a society lol
Bizarre take but I'll leave it there. Glad we cleared up that my post is explicitly factual but because your kid likes his videos you want to present critique as false.
