It's two pronged. 1)We're a failed state who doesn't provide basic needs to citizens. 2) Beast takes advantage of that for his own financial gain.
Bezos has a stream of income that allows him to give away money anonymously if he chooses. Jimmy can't do that. If he doesn't make a video, the ability to give away large sums of cash ends. Who wins there?
If he were giving away 2% of what he earned like a TV network running a gameshow, I get dogging him for that. That doesn't seem to be the case though. He gives away large chunks of what he makes. He absolutely skims some off the top but he's not hoarding 98% of the profits like a corporation does. Just seems like some people will find something to complain about anything.
Anyway I think the things pointed out itt are pretty self evident. I'm pretty agnostic to him in general. I do think the branded food he pumps out is kind of shit and at the very least hints that he's in it for money and takes little to no care in what he sells to loyal fans
You know he could just give a person 500k and not make them sit in prison for 3 months in the name of content.
And then there's no video to watch so the merry go round ends. Is that what you want? He has to make money to give money away. He's not Dr Pepper with billions coming in from selling sodas. I'm honestly confused on how you don't grasp that.
He doesn't have $500m cash. He's worth that bc of his channel and the income is produces. If he stops making videos, the channel is worthless. This really isn't hard to understand. The videos are his product.
Hasnt been mentioned yet so I’ll bite. None of this generous philanthropy by Bezos or Dr Pepper would be possible if companies paid the taxes they should. It’s the privatization of the social safety net and it’s really not good. Also I think billionaires should pay for their own fucking stadiums.
The best thing on this board is that you're unhappy or a miserable person because you don't fall for scams or have a different on opinion on things. Might as will wave a white flag when you do it
You've yet to reply to who wins if he stops making videos. It'd be awesome if he had $100b to give away without no spotlight but he doesn't. He has to make videos to make the money to give money away. Yes, he skims some off the top. I'm just confused on who you think wins if he just stop making money to give away money. I'm shocked that it's you, Lyrtch, and bro that once again found someone to say is bad.
Make a lot of money and give none away - Bad Make a lot of money and give a lot of it - Still bad bc we don't like how he made the money legally without harming anyone Galaxy brains.
I don't even think he's bad really But giving away some money that you're profiting off of doesn't make you good
Enormous Dr pepper ad at halftime of an event. Makes them a fortune and is about spreading brand awareness. 100k to a college student. Oh wow how benevolent of them bravo
another weird aspect is how big of an audience (including many pre-teens) watch these weird videos with these dystopian prompts. Saw a reply likening it to Vault-Tec in the fallout games, which is pretty funny and not too far off.
Agree with this. I don't think he's some great person, but if we consider him a business, he's better than most.
These analogies are really bad. Dr Pepper giving away 0.1% of their revenue in an advertisement is not the same as him pouring the bulk of the revenue from the previous video into the next video. His videos are his soda, not an ad.
Fair, but I'll take his "make millions, spend most on the next video and giving it away" over companies keeping 99% of their profits for shareholders. Would be awesome if giant corporations gave away the same % as he does.
I find myself in Dbl's camp. His business is making money. Part of the way he makes money is by giving some away. He's not a hero, he's not a martyr. He's also no more evil than any other capitalist. Everything a for-profit enterprise does is meant to increase profits. This includes "giving back to the community" and the the charitable giving arms, etc. I run a non-profit and we've got about $75k from a local Fortune 500 corp in the last few years. I do not think this org is "good." And despite a lot of documented bad things they've done over the years, I don't even consider them inherently bad! But I was more than happy to accept the money on behalf of my organization. Beast is a capitalist whose product is content, as dbl says, as well as awarding money to viewers. Doesn't make him good or bad any more than just being an American capitalist does or doesn't.
It's always fun to hear this when I'm considered relentlessly even naively optimistic and positive by many others
The conversation has sneakily gone from "he's good" to "he's neither bad nor good" which I pretty much agree with the latter and will consider it a victory.
Playing whacky games for money or prizes is fine. Having folks use their life’s problems and heartache to play against each other for money is pretty gross.
You can be neither good not bad and suck. I feel like the next step in this is conversation is debating the definition of the word "suck" and I'm going to go ahead and preemptively pass on that conversation.
Did you watch the 2nd video? It’s sad and exploitative. I’ve never seen one episode of survivor so I don’t know if it is or isn’t
this was the your stance to kick things off though: think it's likely he does and I'm assuming you're a hell of a lot more familiar with him than I am, that he makes money off his content isn't a compelling argument to me though
It's people selling others on why they should get the money. I halfway paid attention but the lady that won $250k seemed pretty cool.
Start at 30:30 and watch a few minutes. He’s profiting off peoples heat ache and woes. Yet only one can win. When in reality he’s the ultimate winner. That’s not good. He has a platform now to make some real changes in this world. This isn’t the way.
Think people forget that sure these Uber wealthy donate large sums of money to people, but the middle class and poor usually sacrifice more of their income to help others and give a higher percentage of their income to help others. Someone who makes 30k a year giving 10% of their money away is more impressive than someone making a 100 million a year giving away 2% of their income away. Sure it’s more dollars, but who really is sacrificing more?
Idk man I don't see "Tell everyone why you should win the money" as bad. If people choose to share super personal stuff, that's their choice.
Of course it’s their choice. I just see it as an indictment on what’s wrong with our current society.
Agree. I don't think he's even sacrificing. It's just his business model. The money he's giving away is part of his product. I think it's one of the better products to be able to make money off of.
