Damn. That's a bummer. But not all that surprising. I felt like it was coming. Hes talk a lot about how these trips are getting hard on his body. And his boys are older and in school, it's hard to bring them on trips.
The volume of work coupled with fans trying to access him and his family digitally and in real life. He wants more family time and intends to help grow the Outdoor Tom channel etc. as his kids think they might want to be YouTubers. 1,110 videos in 11 years is an insane pace.
"this is clearly not good or healthy for me so i want to step aside and let my kids do it" is a little weird imo
Sounded like he was personally burned out but will help his kid if that's something he chooses to pursue. Seems like kind of normal parent stuff to me
I have an elementary student who scripts YouTube brain rot daily. Was Skibidi Toilet lines and noises for the longest time, though he recently moved onto something new. Shit's actually fire. Spoiler
YouTube is slop. Outdoor boys is fine but I’m not complaining about him, more of the incentive structure YouTube sets up. It’s not about making good videos it’s about retaining viewers. It’s not about artistry it’s about reach. Democratization of the arts means artists just compete for the absolutely lowest common denominator. Thanks Obama.
there is a gaming the algo aspect, just like with all social media, but if the video sucks and people only stay for 5% of a video then it hurts the video in the algo so people are somewhat incentivized to make good/better videos
The Mr. Beast thumbnail-ification of YouTube has ruined so much of it. There's plenty of good normal content but the creators are forced to make the most humiliating thumbnails and teh epicz heckin short clips for their channels to maintain relevancy.
