Logan looks like this guy I work with who's on my softball team. Only difference is I've never seen the guy wear a shirt with sleeves except for scrubs
KRod got that Valverde Pointing at Fly Balls game on fleek. Or was that Rodney? Anyway, good start. We only have to be 16 over for the next 160 games to win 90.
I've been really bad at following the Tigers the past handful of years. Hoping to change that this year. Feeling way overwhelmed trying to familiarize myself with lesser plays + minor leaguers....
Not Inge. He did some good charity stuff, but I couldn't stand him in the second half of his Detroit tenure. The other guys were useful players who just can't stay on one team as long as they did. There's a reason all those utility guys and random middle relievers move around the league constantly. The longer you stay in one spot, the more likely the fans turn on you for not being something you were never supposed to be in the first place. Was especially true with Raburn.
Inge reminds me a lot of Cleary; not really sure it makes sense, but when I think of Inge, I think of Cleary and vice versa
Raburn's best contribution to the Tigers was fooling the Indians in to giving him a multi year contract DKB was the only guy that actually seemed useful in the "jack of all trades" role ...
I loved Inge, but mainly because I saw his first career hit at the Cell (a double down the line) and watched him steadily improve until he was a 4 WAR player on a WS team, and because he was a great defensive 3rd basemen for a while. But it went south on him in a hurry after '06 and he would have been better served in a utility role by like '08.
Got our corporate tickets for Opening day tomorrow. I've partied downtown before, but this will be the first i've ever actually attended. It was nice of MLB to schedule opening day during the week of spring break, so all the more senior guys with kids are out of town & unable to accept said tickets.
Remember Inge in the HR derby? Also remember when this guy had 9 dingers in the first 13 games of 2006?
His Ginger Blaze burned so brightly that it could not last more than a few weeks. They were glorious though.
is Katie Strang our official ESPN reporter or something? I see she's from GR and all she seems to do is tweet/blog about the Tigers ...
How many can you get? http://www.sporcle.com/games/Gord93/tigers_lineups I got 230 out of 260. Only missed one since 03. They messed up our opening day line-up this year (the order is weird and they have Sanchez pitching).
really like what I'm seeing from Zimm. pounding the zone but can put the ball anywhere. his FB speed seems to play up despite staying around 91 on the gun ...
Pretty damn good first outing, given the conditions. As someone unable to watch, anyone know what his velo was?
Yup. Not overpowering. I haven't seen him much. But this team came in swinging it pretty good, and he just shut them down.
Miggy took Cessa, the kid we gave them for Wilson, deep. He tried to throw a 2nd fastball by him. Welcome to the bigs, kid.
reminded me of vintage Fister. not racking up Ks but completely controlling the batter. that my first time watching him, he was quite impressive ...
Eugenio Suarez was picked up over the weekend in my 10 person, mixed league, h2h fantasy league, almost 16 months to the day after he was traded by Dave Dombrowski for Alfredo Simon. He's a 24 year old 3B now, and is almost 3 WAR better than Nick Castellanos over his MLB career in 130 less games. He also has a higher WAR than Simon since the trade. Obviously Surez isn't going to bat .400 with 100 home runs this season, but he might hit .280 with 20 home runs and I hate being reminded that we traded a quality prospect for a shitty old pitcher. At least Al didn't trade anybody to get Pelfrey. Thank goodness Jonathan Crawford is languishing in the low minors or I'd be really mad.
Crawford hurt his arm last year and missed almost the entire season. Trading Suarez wasn't as much of a problem as who they traded him for. That deal never made any sense.
I agree - nobody in major league baseball would predict (or probably still expect) Suarez to be a better longterm 3B than Castellanos and he wasn't playing at SS or 2B for us anytime soon. Trading anything for Simon didn't make sense.
Norris had a rehab start in Lakeland yesterday, and is staying there for at least one more start. Sounds like he's only set for 55 pitches, so he would seem to be several weeks away, at best. Maybin and Alex Wilson were in Lakeland, and are now going to Toledo to continue their rehab assignments.
Is it me or are the Pirates the NL version of the Royals? never K, run all the time, annoy the fuck out of me ...
