Genoa is great. Throw a rock at random and you'll hit a restaurant. They had some awesome Sunday markets going today too. I had some prosciutto and cheese filled sweet pastry and a strawberry and lemon flavored gelato waffle cone for lunch and yellowtail ravioli for dinner. I'm honestly glad I'm on the bike right now cuz it's making me not buy souvenir stuff, as I haven't anywhere to put it.

Traffic on the coast road was terrible. We were filtering for over an hour. Suuuuuper hot engines at the end of that.

Sorry I'm not posting bar and club info. Neither of us are big club goers and after 4-6 hours on the bike and 5 hours walking around the city, we're passing out by 10.

Finishing up Budapest and now on to Vienna. Very cool city with a much different vibe than the rest so far. Not sure if this was a special weekend (there was a ton of different festivals going on) but tons of bachelor parties going on. Just group after group of dudes partying it up. Funny but haven't seen hardly any girl groups. We where walking around drinking and heard a bunch of loud music, went towards it and found a square with a concert going on. Some reggae/rap band was playing and there was a huge crowd of people drinking, partying, dancing. We hung there for a while and I got some really cool videos I'll post when I'm back. Food was just kind of meh to me but that's probably more due to personal preference. Very cool city that I would recommend to anyone but especially if your single and like to have fun.

So getting a loose outline for an extended jaunt through SE Asia next Feb and March for about 45-50 days.

    2/5---Fly into New Delhi
-------make my way down to Agra (Taj Mahal), and then to Varanasi
-------make my way to Kathmandu, Nepal, spend a week or so there, hopefully do some sort of trek in the Himalayas
late Feb---fly to Hanoi and Halong Bay
early/mid March---make it down to Son Doong Cave and do a 5 day trek into the biggest cave in the world, only discovered a few years ago (Gin Buckets didn't you post some stuff about this cave earlier?). Looks incredible:

mid March---make it from central Vietnam to Saigon, fly back late March

Muchos gracias amigo. Not quite on your level, but taking a little sabbatical before moving and starting something new.

In a perfect world, I'd already have a job/offer prior to leaving in February, but them be OK with me not starting until early April. But I know that might be kind of a pipe dream.

You mentioned it a few pages ago when talking about yours---got our whole lives to sit at a desk and make money.

Good for you BamaNug , that's my dream.

Have a wedding in south Oregon later this month and since that's quite a haul from Houston, decided to spend Tuesday-Friday working out of Portland and then drive down Saturday morning for the wedding (~4.5 hour drive).

I know nothing about Portland; I'm staying in a condo in the Pearl District, will be working until roughly 5 PST each day, except for the day I tour Nike's campus.

I would appreciate any and all recs for things to do and see in the area.

    Gracias in advance

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I want to live outside of the South for (at least) a few years, and if I don't leave while I'm young and in my 20s I may never make it out of here. I like my job, I just really dislike where I live. More of a lifestyle change than anything else.

Looking forward to your recs. I'm going in December. Fly into Queenstown, out of Wellington. I have a couple friends who live there and the consensus was to skip auckland and spend as much time as possible on the south island.

Man, it's been too long since I looked at this thread. Thanks for tagging me Gin Buckets. I think my posts on Australia/New Zealand were all lost in the crash.

Queenstown Lodging: You have to go to Queenstown. I would highly recommend this hostel (and I think Gin Buckets recommended it to me): http://www.hostelworld.com/hostelde...16-08-09&dateTo=2016-08-10&number_of_guests=2 . It is a very social hostel and most everyone meets in the kitchen area prior to going out together each night. The staff there are really cool and most will go out with the people staying there as well. They will also book everything for you that you want to do there (canyoning, rafting, skydiving, canyon swing, bungie jumping, whatever). You definitely don't need to plan anything in advance with Queenstown other than the hostel. I had planned on staying in Queenstown for 4 nights and ended up staying 7 or 8. It's definitely my favorite place I've ever been.

To Do in Queenstown: In regards on what to do in Queenstown, just look at all of the activities (skiing should be open in August as well, I think it stops in late September/early October) somewhere online and try to think of what you would want to do. I ended up doing jetboating (overrated IMO), canyoning, canyong swing, rafting, and hiking one day. I would also recommend getting some people at your hostel to go to Milford Sound as it is crazy beautiful. https://www.google.com/search?q=mil...ved=0ahUKEwiqhPPnyZPNAhVK5iYKHU3fC5AQ_AUIBigB . Definitely eat at Fergberger as well, I had it too many times to count.

Renting a Car in New Zealand: There is something you can do in New Zealand (and I can't remember what it's called) with renting cars where you rent in one city and take it back to another b/c the rental company needs it. If you are going to rent a car (I strongly suggest it, the country is amazing and driving through it is essentially driving through a national park the entire time), just ask if they have needs in the city you are trying to get to and it will cost you less than $5 a day. I ended up going from Queenstown to Christchurch (via the west coast) and it was up there with the coolest experiences there. Don't be afraid of the different side of the road, there are signs and arrows throughout and it's not hard at all.

Other Activities in New Zealand: I also hiked the Franz Josef Glacier (https://www.google.com/search?q=fra...ypPNAhVDPiYKHeKcBU8Q_AUIBygB&biw=1440&bih=723) on my trip and that was pretty cool. Not something I expect to experience again. Probably not the top 5 things I did on the trip, but worthwhile none the less.

A guy I worked with in Australia strongly suggested taking a train from Greymouth to Christchurch. It goes through Arthur's Pass National Park (pretty awesome to drive through as well) and is supposed to be amazing in the wintertime (when you will be there).

I would strongly suggest staying away from Christchurch (other than as a way to get in or out of the south island - Queenstown has an airport) as it is still pretty wrecked by the earthquake ~2012 (at least it still was in October 2014).

Given my available time in New Zealand (only 10 days), I never made it to the North Island, so I can't give any advice there. I'm sure that no matter what you do, you will have an awesome time. Do not miss Queenstown though.

    Amalfi Report

Amalfi was awesome - I think I mentioned earlier but so many stairs. To get to the town from our hotel we had to walk 600 stairs. In all we walked probably 5000.
Best meal was at ristorante le palme in atrani, right outside Amalfi. Still the best Pizza I've had imo, including Florence Pizza. You can get a huge extra large pizza for 18 euros and a half-liter of wine for like 8 euros. Really good value

We did the Capri Island private boat tour - with about 10 other people on a smaller boat. Road around the island in the boat and then they dropped us off and gave us 5 hours to explore Capri. We walked to Capri Town and had dinner overlooking the ocean and then some bakery. I'd recommend, it was a lot of fun.

You can also do kayak tours of the amalfi which seemed cool

I'm headed to Japan for 10 days in August, pretty excited about it. We're going to Tokyo and Kyoto, and have what we want to see and most other details laid out. For the guys that have been, what is the party scene like? There seems to be a dearth of European style hostels, and none near the main bar areas (Roppongi, Shinjuku) from what I understand. I'm tagging the people who I've seen post about going there. PJP3 cal2431

I have no idea what to expect in Kyoto in terms of nightlife.

There was almost no nightlife in Kyoto that I saw. Very much just about the sights there. Tokyo was obviously a different story. I stayed in Roppongi. Its kinda known as the most western area. A lot of bars catering to white people and the Japanese people looking to hang out with white people. The bars all hire African guys to hang out front and try to get business in. They're mostly shit talking assholes when you're not interested in their club and looking to rip you off which was a big turnoff to this area. The golden gai area in Shinjuku is awesome, but not really a crazy party place since the bars are so small and more low key, but definitely an awesome place to grab a few drinks before heading to another area later in the night. I enjoyed partying in Shibuya the most personally. Best mix of Japanese, western, clubs, bars, etc. And made you feel like you were "in Tokyo" if that makes sense. Its where all the big buildings are with crazy lights you expect to see when in Tokyo. Also has the arcades and shady alleys with whatever you would want to get into for the night.

Just have to get through the last day of work then fly out tonight 9:30 to Helsinki. This is a good example of why people should be following some of the people that let you know about miles/fare deals. I booked this ticket in the fall and am paying $1200 round trip for British Airways business class. It was a sale that lasted only a few hours but because I was following the right people, I was able to snag it.

Going back to Kauai in January as I told my wife she could go anywhere she wanted when she was in the hospital in Switzerland and that's what she picked. We went two years ago for our honeymoon but she wants to go back.
