i'm building a computer and want to put a decent amount of money into some really great speakers for metal. advice anyone?
I run my speakers through a receiver and into my computer. Never seen great "computer speakers", I have Deftechs.
Well, you can always get studio monitors. There are more options being built for computers than ever. All depends on the budget.
Well when you know your budget I can make some recommendations. You also want to factor in a sound card or external DAC if you don't have something already as that will affect the sound too.
it used to be that a sound card was a necessity, but the quality of onboard sound has gotten so good that there's probably some speaker price point where it becomes worth it to buy a discrete sound card if you're weighing cost of parts like video card and motherboard, then you're almost certainly fine with onboard audio
For example, I run a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphones directly off my onboard sound card. To get the most out of them I probably should have some kind of amplification, but they still sound great. My motherboard isn't anything fancy. ASRock H97 Anniversary with some sort of Realtek audio.
Damn near everything sucked about the loudness war. However, you my millennial child were not around for many fantastic mid 80's releases that came out and the sound was shit. 90's come along and they take that release, boost those volumes and clean up some tape hiss, instant boner!
Didn't Maxtor turn into Seagate or something like that? I've had multiple Maxtor drives, not even old ones, fail on me. WD For Life!
Well, not sure how much you're spending on the rest of the PC but I'm going to imagine you will definitely have less than 1,000 to spend on speakers. I would also imagine at this price point we aren't going to worry about a DAC or expensive sound card as it just won't be worth it at these price points. An often recommended option: http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Powered-Speaker-Systems/A5-plus-B-Powered-Speakers An alternative: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-wuobcPbBoAP/p_760ALPHPS1/PSB-Alpha-PS1.html
Yeah it really depends. Depends how much money you are willing to spend, how picky you are, the application and if your hearing perception is at the level where you can tell the difference. I can tell the difference in speakers and headphones pretty well but amplifiers and audio processing equipment much less so. Honestly, I just play around with my HD 555s most of the time as I just can't be bothered and they are the most comfortable pair of headphones I have.
Got Sleep tickets for the Orlando show. It is a benefit for the victims of the Pulse shootings. July 29. Pumped.
Had no idea they were even touring. I just picked up a ticket myself. Hard to keep track of who's touring around here with all these bands.
to go along with it Opeth’s 12th studio album, Sorceress, now has an official release date! The next release in Opeth’s phenomenal discography will see the light of day on Sept. 30. The consistently inventive Swedish band has been creating for 26 years with Mikael Akerfeldt at the helm. Sorceress will consist of 11 tracks. The opening cut, “Persephone,” will have a “Slight Return” edition (perhaps in the same vein as Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child” and “Voodoo Chile”) and two tracks have been given the name “Sorceress.” Opeth travelled back to Rockfield Studios in Wales, where 2014’s Pale Communion was put to tape. Rockfield has also served as home for legendary bands like Queen, Rush and Judas Priest. The new collection of songs will be Opeth’s first on Nuclear Blast released via the Swedes’ own imprint, Moderbolaget Records. ”The new album Sorceress is our 12th studio album since our beginnings in 1990,” says Åkerfeldt. “I find it difficult to understand that we’ve been going on for 26 years, let alone that we’ve made 12 records now, all of which I am very proud of. Sorceress is no exception. I love this album, as does the whole band. I wrote the music during 5-6 months and we spent only 12 days recording it at Rockfield studios in Wales.” He continued, “I find that once again we’ve taken a step forward. Or sideways, Or backwards. Somewhere!? It’s different! It’s extremely diverse. And if I may say so myself, extremely good. I feel the right to say that since I like to think I know this band better than anyone on the planet. Also, I always manage to detach myself from the record and listen as a fan. It’s a fine little record. My favorite in our discography right now. Of course. That’s how it should be, right? It’s both fresh and old, both progressive and rehashed. Heavy and calm. Just the way we like it. Hopefully there’ll be others around the globe sharing this opinion. It was a joy to make it. A f–king joy to record it, and a sheer joy listening to it. So there you have it!” Get ready for Sorceress to hit on Sept. 30! Opeth will embark on a North American tour with The Sword shortly after Sorceress’ release. Opeth, Sorceress Track Listing: 1. “Persephone” 2. “Sorceress” 3. “The Wilde Flowers” 4. “Will o the Wisp” 5. “Chrysalis” 6. “Sorceress 2″ 7. “The Seventh Sojourn” 8. “Strange Brew” 9. “A Fleeting Glance” 10. “Era” 11. “Persephone (Slight Return)”
Been rocking the new Earth Ship album. Riffs sounds like the guitar was steeped in bong water overnight. Spoiler: Earth Ship - Reduced To Ashes Reminds me of first album-era Mastodon + Earth Crisis + Electric Wizard. Good shit,
I had a burning hatred for Earth Crisis in the 90's. Not so much anymore, may even enjoy the first couple albums.
I actually didn't get much of an Electric Wizard vibe. A bit of influence sure but it didn't stand out too much to me. Easily early Mastodon and some other stuff I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Are they even popular? Thought they were on Southern Lord which doesn't draw a lot of attention. Can't stand that sludgy doom sound, I'll take the epic doom of Solitude Aeturnus, Solstice or Candlemass instead.
I like both styles and most types of doom except stuff like Drone which is just too out there for me. EW are pretty popular in the metal world. Was really just messing with you because you seem to focus on the underground of the underground.
I focus on everything, I probably listen to 500-600 new albums a year. Every night I check new stuff out while I relax and ready myself for bed. Listening to the new Dreadnaught right now, fucking Aussies.
What burnttatertot doesnt want us to know is that he wouls rather listen to power metal than anything else.
i've enjoyed the last few posts in this thread lol pretty funny how us metalheads can listen to high BPM death metal or whatever as a way to wind down the day. i do the same and my gf thinks im insane. glad you liked that track Lambert
Love me some PM. Last album I listened to last night was the latest Scorcher in MP3 form (320), then I ordered a hard copy from the label in Greece.
