"People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There's been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn't changed, don't know if it's changed. Didn't make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler." Bet you didn't see that coming. Chandler is best known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Coach Eric Taylor on the excellent high school football drama Friday Night Nights and as John Rayburn on the hit Netflix series Bloodline. His prominent film roles include The Wolf Of Wall Street, Zero Dark Thirty, and Argo. Sneider didn't stop there and also revealed who the studio may be considering for fellow X-Force member, Neena Thurman a.k.a. Domino: "The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis." Another out of the box name, but it's paid off before, so if true, it's likely it could pay off again. Davis is an up-and-comer, best known for her roles in The Martian, That Awkward Moment, and What If. She currently stars on the AMC period drama Halt and Catch Fire and can be seen next in Denis Villeneuve's yet-to-be titled Blade Runner sequel.
Assuming he can bulk up a bit it can work. It would be funny to see an actor most known for playing a likable family man play Cable.
There were additional rumors that Tim Miller wanted Chandler for Cable but the studio said no because they wanted a bigger star. No chance Lang was even an option if that's the case.
So fucking stupid. Can anyone name any other actor off the top of their head besides MAYBE TJ Miller?
Didn't Fox let them do whatever the fuck they wanted in the last movie? I feel like Miller has earned to right to cast whoever the fuck he wants.
You'd also think they'd be on board with keeping the budget down by not hiring a big name actor. It's not like star power is what drove people to the theater for the first one. Fox just can't help themselves.
Yeah if things go right, Cable will be around for awhile in movies. So don't need to cast someone already in their mid 60's
Fox will now try and get in the way and they better not. Let miller, Ryan and the writers do their thing.
Feel like Reynolds won't let that happen. Pretty clear they were only ever going to make the first one if they were allowed to do it the way they wanted. Can't imagine them budging now.
For Cable in Deadpool: Stephen Lang has the "look" to portray Cable. But they need to cast a better actor. Ray Stevenson would be a decent choice. I would cast Jon Hamm. Phenomenal actor, very intense, and could bring the very serious Cable to counter the humorous Deadpool character. Hamm and Reynolds would provide good onscreen chemistry if you want the Joker/Batman=Dark Knight flow. But if you want Expendables, Rambo, 'shoot em up' style action with not a lot of depth or substance, and "good guy sees bad guy = beats bad guy" stuff, then they should cast Stephen Lang or a Ron Pearlman.
My only problem with Lang now is his age. If they want a Cable for multiple films, they need a little younger. Lang is the perfect comic look but I will say Chandler isn't bad and probably a great choice. Hamm is interesting
You guys are getting too hung up on casting when in reality they can make fun of anything. Like if Kyle Chandler didn't bulk up for example.
I doubt Jon Hamm would sign onto a 2-5 movie deal with Marvel. Just doesn't seem like something he'd do, but he would be my choice to play Cable.
Hulu is getting into the Marvel business with an order to Runaways, a drama series based on the fan-favorite Marvel Comics books. It comes from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage, Marvel Television and ABC Signature. The order is for a pilot plus additional scripts with an eye toward a full-season greenlight. Created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, the Runaways comics feature a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are part of an evil crime organization. Written by Schwartz and Savage, Marvel’s Runaways will tell the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents. “I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz. Added Savage, “Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.” The book series debuted in 2003 and is still in print with a short break in later 2004 when it was canceled but brought back by popular demand. The TV adaptation stems from a series of conversations Schwartz and Savage had with executives from Marvel TV over the past year. The project was developed under the overall deal Schwartz and Savage’s Fake Empire had at ABC Studios where Marvel TV also is based. Coming of age is familiar territory for Schwartz and Savage who created together the successful TV series adaptation of another book series, Gossip Girl. Schwartz also created the coming-of-age Fox drama The O.C. “We’ve known the Runaways‘ story would make great television,” said Jeph Loeb, EP and Head of Marvel Television, “and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie — who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience — write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.” Schwartz and Savage will serve as showrunners of Marvel’s Runaways, which they executive produce with Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil) Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will produce as well. Fake Empire is repped by WME. Schwartz also is with Mikkel Bondesen. Marvel TV has Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC and several series on Netflix, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher as well as The Defenders.
