Dude in my work slack posted “Go ECU, they might win this” to see if anyone was watching seconds before the pick 6. He is getting rightly annihilated now
I had a post mid-typed maybe 10 minutes before that about how awesome he was playing but deleted it out of fear of jinxing it.
Oh, fuck that guy. I had just told my friend that losing yardage on 2nd and short, like three straight times, wasn't ideal.
Memphis counting their lucky stars that we might not be coming for that ass for the 15th straight game.
I just realized as I’m laying here staring into the oblivion of a dark bedroom, we had our 2nd string QB complete a pass to our 3rd string QB today. That has to be a rare as fuck stat line.
Gabriel throws one of the prettiest deep balls I’ve ever seen. Let’s just get that Holman level crossing shit fixed.
i think they will set their sights higher. They will start with Meyer who will laugh at them, then move on to someone else, maybe take a run at Frost.
FSU AD was quoted the other day saying "if taggart was hit by a bus today, i would still not call meyer. i would never call meyer for this job." meyer will never be hired at FSU. hate goes both ways.
Agreed, i wanted them to keep him and let him run them all the way into the dirt. Don't know if I ever told y'all but I went to the Oregon/Washington game a couple years ago, one of the guys I hung out with is hardcore Ducks fan, and a high school football coach. He told me about how he went to a meet the coach/talk that Taggart gave not long after he became the coach at UO, and this guy told me it was a fucking joke. He said he was supposed to talk about how to build a winning program, but all he did was read slides that were shit like "build a good offense by recruiting a 5-star RB" and "recruit a QB like Lamar Jackson", nothing about actual coaching. We now know for sure what a fraud he is, back then it was still somewhat in question, and this guy told me the crowd was pretty livid, they were expecting real info and got... Taggart.
I'm going to keep driving the Will Healy bus til we hire him. Dude is about to make Charlotte bowl eligible for the first time ever.
Heup was a good stabilizing figure after Frost took everyone with him. When everything is clicking, his offense is fun to watch but his stubbornness is annoying. It literally cost us the Pitt game.
Just show tape of Gabriel dropping dimes to whoever we want to hire. Best recruiting tool for a new coach is a true freshman qb in the top 10 in passing yds and rating in the country.
Don't think FSU is taking another coach from the USF/UCF level. They kinda have to get an established P5 coach or this is going to get even messier.
I love how bianchi made this a story because he asked him the question on his morning show. I don’t think Heupel is or was on any FSU list but click bait gotta click bait
I give Heup more credit than you guys. I think there's a lot to be said for not just taking over Frost, but keeping an aggressive style and building on it (faster tempo) and more importantly, showing he can attract and hire and competent staff. I also like coaches who aren't assholes to their players and how the culture around the team has seemingly become even tighter (one team one heartbeat and all that). That said, he's a "freshman" HC who is bound to make some mistakes. But I also think he evolves and corrects them. Yes, the Cincy game was ridiculous that we wouldn't bring in Mack for redzone snaps when we were living in the Cincy redzone and coming away empty. That should have been the perfect time to bring him in and it cost us not just the game but possibly the AAC. But since then, he's gotten Mack more involved and shown new looks and redzone packages. I LOVED bringing him on 3rd downs vs. ECU to convert but then keep the tempo up which led to a long TD to Davis. It was great coaching. So while we can say he's stubborn during the Cincy game (he was), it's not like he stayed the course either since then. And now we even have DG running for 30 yard touchdowns. Speaking of DG, you guys are quick to jump on him too. After the slow start vs. Houston he barely had any incompletions after that and 2 were bad drops by Nixon (who also had great catches). Dude was a maniac that game. He doesn't have the quickness to be KZ-level runner but if he is smart he can be a Bottles-Level runner which would still be good enough.
Are people down on DG? I think everyone here understands he’s a true freshman and he’ll have bad games. But DG is infinitely better than McKenzie as a freshman
DG is awesome. It's absolutely ridiculous as a true Freshman he is a top 10 statistical passing QB in the country. He played like a freshman against Cincy, but that happens.
I don't really disagree with anything here. I am frustrated with him still because all 3 losses were because of a lack of adjustments. I'm fine with the LSU one because thats a damn good team and we were still figuring out post-Milton life but it was there for us with better calls. He has definitely made changes since Cincy which is good. I don't want to lose him at this point. If we win out we're a top 20 preseason team again and should roll.
Overall no but during games it seems much more negative than it should. Stanning for Mack maybe a bit much (although I like him too, in general). Just look at the first few posts from the Houston game after he threw like 3 passes.
My big question is does DG not have a middle distance throw he can make or does Heup not believe in calling them? Its fucking frustrating that we always go run up the middle or home run ball.
agreed Milton murdered Auburn with those middle distance shots such an effective weapon and doesn’t put so much pressure on the offense to be so big play dependent
I think he def has game for the middle distance throws, but he isn't asked to make them very often. I think the it is just the nature of that Briles/Baylor offense that most throws are in that 5 yard range or the 15+ yard range. But it isn't as if you have to play that way all the time. Shit, Frost worked a lot of West Coast offense into that Chip Kelly spread option. And truthfully, I prefer that offense to what we run. If DG make the same leap that Milton did from freshman year to soph year, every opponent is in serious trouble.
I do want to push back on this a bit. I don't really think its fair to compare their fresh years. Milton came in to a train wreck and had a garbage OL in front of him. He was def hurt part of that year and Frost wasn't really sure of what was going on yet. DG walked into the best situation possible. There is better talent that just about every opponent all over that offense and even a mediocre QB is winning 7-8 games. He seems to have the poise and arm to be in the same conversation but next year is when we will know for sure.
