Been on a big Vern Gosdin kick lately. Also Jason Eady "wishful drinking" should be the blueprint for new country from here on
First time I've ever heard of this guy. Looked him up and found this song. Relevant to the thread imo.
So I wasn't really a big Bingham fan. I liked South Side of Heaven and the Weary Kind is pretty good, but overall his stuff didn't do much for me. Junky Star is fucking dope, though. Actually bought it a few weeks ago on a music spree, and finally just got around to listening to it this week. Amazing fucking album. I'm all the way on the Bingham bandwagon now. Also, because it was cheap, I bought a best of Conway Twitty--shit's not bad, real slow, and most of it's pretty sexy(He actually sing "I'm touching your forbidden place" in the one the songs ) but pretty good.
junky star is my least favorite album of his. I think these guys may blow up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8XpO_uiUbI
Yeah, I like Dylan's Hard Rain too, but outside of of SSoH Mescalito just doesn't do much for me. "Give him yo cash, motherfucker, he's too fast for you!"
There are no "bands" anymore. Its all electronic keyboards and drum machines set to some shitty lyrics using auto tune with no originality. The mindless drones who watch MTV and CMT hear this crap and buy the albums/MP3's which give the so called "band" more money to keep producing more shit on a computer using FinalCut. It makes me want to die knowing that no one makes "real" music anymore and those few hold outs are giving up the good fight. So, I'll leave this here. Not a big fan of country but when I do choose to listen, I choose Gram Parsons. PS. I'm always on the look out for originality, so if you guys know of anyone worth listening to, let me know. I mostly listen to 60/70's music. IMO, people who ruined each genre (Very general catergories) Country - Garth, Rascall Flatts Rap- Nelly, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Nelly now its a hodge podge of bubblegum pop/rap and hip hop. Rock- Offspring, Nickleback/Creed and all clones, Godsmack and clones, Nirvana, Bush ect ect Punk- New emo Green Day, Sum 41, Fallout Boy and clones. Nothing beyond 95 basically with most new bands claiming to be punk when they are, in fact, pop. Even NOFX eventually jumped the shark :(
I went to Gram Parsons Guitar Pull in Waycross, GA last year. It was mostly bluegrass and country, with a little classic rock mixed in. None of the bands are big names or anything, but I really enjoyed it. The last band would quit playing at like 2 AM and then most of the people that played that weekend would go to one end of the campgrounds and jam until about 5 or 6 AM. Tickets were only like $50 for the weekend. Also, I know you said you don't really listen to country music, but the red dirt thread has some really good original music that you might like.
I'm a huge Lucero fan, you're missing out if you don't have the entire discography and Ben's solo album.
Got any links to his albums or at least suggestions on what I should download on iTunes? I like this guy's stuff, good rec.
Officially pimping this band now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euG6XuEaBpU&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbiVUqdUEgk&feature=relmfu Taques I think you will like this
New Zac Brown Band album comes out Tuesday. You can listen to it on iTunes right now for free. This is the first video, with animation done by Mike Judge
This fat fuck is so filthy, gatdamn he's talented. Too bad he'll be dead in ten years... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAFnljukrcI
Randy Travis got arrested for the second time in a month. Guy is pulling his best George Jones in his later life. http://www.kmov.com/entertainment/167332745.html
Just discovered Chase Rice this month. He got 2nd on Survivor: Nicaragua, played football at UNC, and was on a NASCAR pit crew, and now makes country musics. He played in Lincoln on Thursday night. Absolutely killed it, next Eric Church IMO
I'm not quite as anti-nashville establishment as most of you guys, so I actually liked his first one that came out. (Something Bout a Truck) and was pretty excited to see what would be next. Then this one came out, which is bad enough that now I hate his first song.
