4 years ago, USA lost 4-0 to the defending world cup champions in a friendly before the Gold Cup. I'm going to enjoy this even thought it was "just a friendly."
I had to watch the second half on mute/while on a call talking a lot but I thought Chandler had a really strong second half
I wish he would play with that kind of motivation all the time. US soccer should invest in brainwashing technology to make him think he is playing against Germany in Germany every game.
That was a fun game to watch. Seemed like both teams were playing shit defense in the 1st, USA played worse defense than Germany, but the 2nd half was theirs.
Grant Wahl @GrantWahl 47m47 minutes ago USA didn't just beat Germany & Netherlands, it deserved to beat Germany & Netherlands—on the road, no less. Promising week of soccer.
I try not to take too much meaning out of friendlies. Now if we roll through the Gold Cup I'll be happy.
Yea I'm gonna need a working gif of the schweinsteiger reaction. Subpar first 20 minutes and a great second half adjustment. I'm very happy with what Jurgen is doing.
I've heard stories about back in his playing days, he would sit in hotel lobbies and strum on his guitar. That image gives me douche chills.
I wish I could like this 1,000 times. Add Wynalda to this statement and I will donate money to have Chan allow me to give multiple likes on a post. Just watched the game damn Brad Friedel and his voice twin were fucking boring calling the game. Can we get some damn brits already? I would rather the hot chicks from the Women's WC call the game.
Spoken in a shit half British accent. Fuck that give me two drunk Irishmen calling the game if I can't get some proper Brits.
To be fair to the Scotenglisherican, the game did turn in our favor after Guzan made that save to keep it 1-0. Who knows how things would have ended up if they went up 2-0
Lol what? Did you watch the second half? They were playing several guys that will finish their careers with less than ten caps. It's still a great win.
Oh yea. They brought in subs. Three of which were some dudes named podolski, khederia, and christoph Kramer. That's quite the "E" team.
It's funny when Twellman quotes tweets that didn't @ him, he's basically just showing everyone he Twitter searches his own name
Did you really just use Podolski for your argument? He is a shell of what he used to be. Only reason he was brought on was because the game was in Cologne. It was basically a farewell match for him.
First half was B+, 2nd half was probably C+. Lulu is a joke and Khedira barely played this year, Ozil did play 90 and Kruse/Bellarabi/Kramer are legit. With their depth of attackers plus the game being in Germany, it was a great win.
Also, most of their promising players you'd normally see in a friendly like this weren't there because of the upcoming U-21 Euros. Guys like Draxler, Meier, Gintner etc.
No he got called in bc low loves him. And he will continue to get called in, even if he isn't as good now. If my math his correct, his 124 caps are a little more than 10. Point is, it wasn't the best comment in saying "e team". Ozil. Bastian. Gotze. Schurrle. Sami. Kruse. Bellarabi. Kramer. Lulu. Ilkay. Hermann (he will get more caps going forward). That's a damn strong side.
Draxler barely played this season and Ginter is 4th choice at BVB, they aren't better than what Germany had out there besides Podolski. Their defenders were shit but Germany has nothing in defense right now, we might have scored more goals if Hummels played with the form he's in. Loew is gonna have to beg Lahm out of retirement for the Euros.
You guys can argue c team vs e team all you want but this whatever it was had bobby wood strike the winner on a pass from brad Evans with a dummy by morris. Not exactly household usa names there. We fielded relatively similar sides as far as depth chart. And we earned the win.
We beat Germany on their soil, I don't give a fuck if they trotted out Klaus Kinski in a tutu as their #10. We WON
Is that white & black uniform only for the women's team? I liked that they wore the same aways as the men's team, but if Nike is doing a 1-nation-1-uniform thing, shouldn't the U-20s have worn the black & white uniform?
Finally watched the game and as a former keeper I just want to point out that Guzan definitely had that late header covered. No kissing of the bar necessary
Also that was the best we've looked in possession in my memory. Really impressive stuff to get a deserved win. I knew the final score going in but not who scored or when. Once I saw Wood come on I just knew it would be him. Jurgen always knows
Seriously every time Jurgen catches heat for a decision he ends up being right. Usually in odds-defying ways. It's uncanny First it was Beckerman. Then Julian Green. Then Jordan Morris to an extent. That's just off the top of my head but I'm sure there's more. Lone exception of course being fucking Wondo
Brad Friedel basically is British. Fox Sports has some of the worst commentary and HD standards I've ever seen. Can we please get this shit back on ESPN or NBC (first choice) next time?
Totally agree, he would have tipped it over and out for a corner. He should have taken Donovan, but maybe that's your point about Wondo. Also should have started Beckerman against Belgium (and not Cameron at CDM which he hadn't played for us yet). On the whole though, I really agree with you. He's made some great decisions for the program and has us in a great spot at the senior level. I've never been this optimistic about the team.
Just re watched both games. There's no need to add any caveats or qualifiers, Michael Bradley is one of the best box to box midfielders on the planet. When he is deployed properly and played in the correct position, unlike at the World Cup, he is damn good.
Donovan would have been a pretty big distraction had he sat the bench all tournament in Wondo's place. So I can see the logic behind it. Cameron at CDM was a calculated risk with how good Beckerman was playing but it made sense at the time. A good game by Cameron gives you more than a good game by Beckerman. Too bad he played a shit game. With the way Jones was roaming all over we needed Beckerman's steady presence in front of the back four. Cameron getting caught high was the biggest reason we got destroyed that game.
I like JP Dellacamera a lot but that might be it? Which is good because imagine if we had Lalas, Wynalda, Friedel, DiCiccio AND Gus Johnson. JP is a long time US Soccer guy who understands the game and called the 99 Final.
