having a plain name will allow us to keep the already established Terminus Legion supporters section Boca was in Woodruff Park a few hours ago meeting with them the color scheme is perfect
LIKE: Total focus on Atlanta, the A in the crest (reportedly), simple, no stupid fucking misspelled nickname. NOT LIKE: Just the word United. That's totally not Atlanta and too English. People in the South arent exactly all fish and chips.
How the fuck did i not just assume United was what they were going for in that teaser? One Night. One Team.... One City. United.
Too bad United Airlines is based out of Chicago and not Atlanta as they would be the perfect jersey sponsor.
our uniqueness is the Terminus Legion you weren't going to get the Atlanta Peaches or whatever dumb mascot were done in that poll
Interesting gif choice and there are 'question mark' emojis where it says "name"... https://twitter.com/MLSAtlanta2017/status/614152415554572288
Was more of a fan of Atlanta Athletic Club or Atlanta Soccer Club. However, when I think of what the name could've been (Swallows, etc.), I'm thrilled. I'm also not a fan of the "city name animal name" combo for soccer teams.
Ooh I like that a lot. I do agree SC would have been better, but its kinda been taken by Orlando. Its not an end of the world name. It will give a lot of brand flexibility.
Enjoy when rednecks like this that live 4,000 miles from the soccer team they douche about act uppity. Rich.
Atlanta is getting an expansion MLS franchise. Fans were asked "to provide their suggestions for the team name," then chose "Atlanta United FC" anyway. They should have picked one of our many suggestions: - FC ATLiens - ATLetico - Soccerboxxx/The Club Below - FC Stankonia - Sporting Boy Tell 'Em - Footie Mob - Footie Hoo - Kick-Fil-A - soccerplayalisticadillacmuzik - Real Soccer Players of Atlanta - FC Barves - Kriss Inswinging Kross - Pitch Homie Quan - Wacka Socca Flames - Atlanta Shermans. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2014...a-themed-name-ideas-for-the-new-mls-franchise
Exactly yet people are upset with going with bland Atlanta SC would not have worked. It would be deafening to an audience that barely supports pro sports.
United So pathetic. Opposite of cool. Trying too hard imo. I'd take Atlanta FC (which is by far the most bland) 1,000x over anything that claims Atlanta is united in anything. Fwiw; I give 0 fucks about swallows, that was never going to be the name. United however, feels overthought, lame, pathetic, corporate, forced, slightly propaganda-ish, etc. Whatever, I'll support them, but the name leaves a lot to be desired. I'd have been completely happy with Atlanta FC or pretty much anything outside of Phoenix or United. If we wanted to do something that was in line with the city, why not "Flight" (world's busiest airport -- everyone can relate to ATL through the airport if nothing else), or even "Terminus" whatever the fuck that is. Hell, I'd be happy with something about peaches for christ's sake. United is just soooooooo ridiculous. All the names above are 100x worse than swallows Corky Bucek -- they are just trying too hard. Remember, Swallow is actually a pretty cool little bird, and it's very real and very populous bird all over Georgia. The shit mentioned above is silly and contrived. I know you, I know you're smart enough to tell the difference between the 2 man.
Atlanta United FC. That's the the official name of the MLS expansion team that is set to kick off in 2017. And it was the name that emerged from a detailed survey of the club's 21,000 registered supporters who have committed season ticket deposits to date. "We were always going to listen to our fans," club president Darren Eales told MLSsoccer.com on Thursday just hours after SI.com broke the news ahead of the planned July 7 unveiling. "It came back loud and clear that this was a name they identified with and that they felt fit Atlanta." The name wasn't the result of a "pick the name" poll. The club went another direction after noticing how its supporters' group, the Terminus Legion, ran four rounds of polls that failed to produce a consensus pick. So in late January Eales and his team opted for a survey asking their 21,000 Founders Club members to rate 36 words and their level of association with the new team. He says the survey had a 70 percent response rate. "That list included all the names from the Terminus Legion poll, from supporters that we met, from focus groups and from social media," Eales said, highlighting names like Phoenix and Black Harts. "And our top four words were 'Atlanta,' 'Football Club,' 'ATL' and 'United.' So it was quite clear the theme that was coming back from our fans." Find out more about the new MLS team in Atlanta at MLSAtlanta2017.com The supporters had spoken and the club was prepared to act on the feedback even if two MLS teams were already making use of the "United" moniker — D.C. United and recently announced Minnesota United which will begin play in 2017 or 2018. It's a situation reminiscent of how Orlando City and New York City FC adopted similar names ahead of their 2015 expansion season. Why did the supporters opt for United? Eales wonders if it might have to do with the diversity in the city and the younger generation of transplants flowing into Atlanta with a forward, progressive outlook -- "This is a city that can unite behind this club," Eales said. "That's one of the things that seemed to emerge." But ultimately the Atlanta club's chief executive feels the name is only the start of the sculpting of the team's identity. And he's looking to the supporters to continue to help outline the rest of it. Organically, including a team nickname which Eales expects to emerge in short order. "This is not the end of it. You don't look for one name that encapsulates everything about your brand," he explained. "You build up your own identity through your [supporter] customs, the songs they sing, through organic nicknames that will develop, the kits and through the style of play on the field." And there's also the logo, which will be one of the items revealed at the July 7 party at SOHO Lounge in Atlanta, where Eales and technical director Carlos Bocanegra will share news on the franchise, including the latest on the training ground and the academy. "It's a chance for us to update our fans as to where we are on our journey and to celebrate that we've got the beginning of an identity now," Eales said. "And we're ready for the next steps that are going to come with being a team in MLS."
Translated: "yea terminus Legion are passionate but their names fucking suck. I mean did you see them? All terrible. Who can even spell terminus? Is that a disease? So we went another direction."
- FC ATLiens - ATLetico those would have been amazing Atlanta United is the opposite of it but it is funny to watch the big fan in here get all defensive
An organic "nickname" will still come from somewhere, so keep that in mind too. Whether its Reds or Firebirds or whatever.....something will stick eventually.
if i wasnt flying tomorrow morning I'd be there but i still need to pack and shit. i will buy whatever they unveil probably
