here is the thing and I know this will not be satisfactory to you because it isn’t satisfactory to me and I’m typing it. But, why wouldn’t I do everything I could to make sure those heinous things don’t get worse. I agree the democrats are bitch made cowards but at least they aren’t attacking the most vulnerable members of our society. This isn’t a case of “the lesser of two evils “ this is fighting against truly evil people. I’m not comfortable with stepping aside and letting the most marginalized members of our society get hurt for merely existing.
The BDS movement started in 2005, so unfortunately we’re talking pre-Trump (not to mention any predecessors)
Haven’t Biden and Dems also passed really important legislation that’s broadly popular among Americans and their base? Make all the good faith arguments about missed opportunities and broken promises, but to say “wow the gop passes anti trans stuff and dems hate their pleb base” while dems have done a ton of things that are pro worker, pro environment, building infrastructure for the future, etc. is wild.
I will say its nice that these people finally want to see more bloodshed in order to make things better about damn time
I'm speaking historically. I agree that there are a lot of good things they've done recently not nearly enough but definitely an improvement but this gaza stuff is just so henious that it overshadows a lot of it.
Women’s rights weren’t rolled back 200 years in Arizona because Katie Hobbs won by less than 200 votes
So unless one of us has 11,000 votes, enough money to influence party policy, or is willing to hit the pavement and make up that deficit by knocking on doors and campaigning for Joe, what the fuck does it matter?
this shit presents multiple problems. If what this piece of shit is saying is true, you've got a foreign intelligence service operative directing domestic law enforcement to use violence to quell a peaceful protest on a public college campus. I mean, what the fuck!!!!
Hey, I want 11,000 votes, can you find me 11,000 votes? You want 11,000 votes? I can get you 11,000 votes by 3pm
I live in DC, so my vote certainly does not matter. Even for shit like city council, most of the time if we pass a cool rule the feds just kill it.
Some people live in states/districts where their votes may matter. Lots of people live in states where their vote for president has no chance of mattering. Georgians should think that their votes might actually matter, imo.
So what I’m being told in this thread is that, as a Georgian, my vote matters. I have some power. Why should I give that away? Shouldn’t it be incumbent upon the democrats to court my vote by, say, stopping the funding of a genocide? But the truth is they don’t think they need to court me and don’t need my vote. They could have it if they tried to stop the genocide, but they’d rather have the genocide.
Think we've underestimated the amount of ppl that either want or are cool with a Trump presidency again. Been a lot of advocacy for it itt. Lot of posters complaining about Biden and not a peep about Trump. Like Redav said, seems to be reverse engineering a prior.
There are people who would have it worse under Trump. Maybe that's not you so it doesn't really matter to you.
I’m going to be real with you you’ve funded a genocide before Biden and you will still be funding a genocide after Biden
Surely a few of our master debaters are in Penn, Az, Wisc, Georgia NC, or Michigan just based on this once being a college football board
We've had too many massively important elections be decided by tiny amounts of votes to still do the middle school hurrr voting is meaningless schtick
I guess some people don't carry around the anger i do from the first Trump presidency. I'm not ecstatic under Biden but I'd love to not experience Trump again. Idk if it's short memories or just talking out of your ass.
This is a very good point that definitely hasn’t been brought up for the 1000 time in the last month. I’m gonna go to the naked girls thread and ponder this revelation.
I'm too autistic to get the kayfabe argument of we should all pretend that we aren't going to vote for him to pressure him on Gaza but wink wink we're still going to
Of all the arguments I hate, “he hasn’t earned my vote”’ in the context of choosing not to vote might be #1
I'm sympathetic to the people that want to put their foot down, I really am, but I don't know what we're supposed to do other than protest, make our voices heard, do all the things, and then go and grumpily vote for harm reduction. It sucks and I hate it, but unless we're all going to participate in an armed revolution I think that's the best we can ever do here.
The sad part is that maybe they’re actually right. Genociding Palestinians may actually win them more votes than it loses them. That’s the bleakest take possible.
it started when the British took Palestine from the Ottomans thats ~ 101 years and 1 week before october 7th
This is it. Suck it up, hold your nose, go vote. We need 4 more years of dead boomers, Trump in prison, and the MAGA movement crushed. Him winning will be catastrophic. Decades of progress wiped out. The people behind Trump this time aren’t idiots, they’re religious fanatics that will burn it all down.
Especially when the initial conceit was "we need to pick someone else to run because he has dementia." Then that didn't stick so now it's the "we're the only ones actually trying to do anything about Gaza" schtick but we're not actually not going to not vote, wink wink. Yes this is all very believable
It’s not kayfabe. It’s a threat. Whether or not Joe and the Dems take it seriously is the issue. They’ve presented demands of the candidate if he wants their votes. Maybe their votes aren’t a significant enough block to matter. Maybe they’re bluffing. But Joe knows what they want. He can give it to them or not. It’s no different than any other number of groups/lobbyists telling him what they want in exchange for their support. It’s just democracy.
The thing is the threats come from all the people who have threatened to not vote on all kinds of other things. Almost like they're going to find a reason to not vote for him. Maybe they have reason to not chase those votes
The bold is also a part I don't get and why the other tension exists. Israel under a psycho right wing government isn't going to do whatever Biden wants. I've found the Biden admin to be awful initially post October 7th but more closely approaching how aggressive I'd want them to be negotiating a peace deal and broader normalization of diplomacy in the region. All the long list of good things the Biden admin has done, passing bills I thought were dead, 5 million borrowers student debt forgiven, on and on is more directly attributable. Again, autism.
How much Biden can control what Bibi does is debatable. But is also not the point. Biden can (presumably) control what Biden does. That’s the part that matters.
