I saw a couple places speculating Chris Walker will not be back at Florida next year. Could be an interesting transfer candidate if he doesn't go pro.
I was going to mention the fact that a witch hunt insinuates that there's an unfair search for punishment. When the pillar of justice , that is the NCAA, has deemed unc has gone awry from the rules. But alas, I have to work through lunch and this Wendy's spicy jalapeño won't eat itself. So I left that out.
Disappointed this didn't end with an el oh el camino. Beo, You guys gonna close the deal with Brown or is Balford going to be jacking up 25 shots a game?
welp, hopefully Kenny Williams wants to be a Heel, after all, if they don't want to come to UNC, then I don't want them either, and so forth
I think this is going to happen. Here's the 24/7 blurb on his recruitment, which everyone has blasted for being inaccurate. The information about Virginia is flat out wrong, but it's apparently from a source close to his AAU program and he's the one who's mistaken. According to the message board gods. Spoiler: FWIW CarolinaBlue spoke on Wednesday afternoon with a source close to the recruitment of 2015 shooting guard Kenny Williams (Chesterfield, VA/Lloyd C. Bird). Williams is a 6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect. Per the 247Sports Composite ranking, he is the No. 29 shooting guard, the No. 89 overall prospect and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia. Williams was recently released from his VCU letter-of-intent. He has taken on official visit to North Carolina and an unofficial to Virginia. Based on a 10 minute conversation with a source this is what we know: On North Carolina: -The visit to UNC went well, but nothing spectacular other than that. Kenny played pick-up with the team. He said he played really well. It was a good experience. Carolina is still in it. -The source on what Kenny told him on about the UNC visit: ""The extent of the conversion (with Kenny) was that it went really well, he liked it. It was good. I don't think it was a home run." -Carolina really liked him the first go around and I think Kenny really wanted to like Carolina. It just never clicked. -Kenny is really locked into exploring his options. The first time around he did two unofficials to North Carolina, an unofficial to Georgetown, and an official to VCU and that was it. -Kenny is a different kid. He is a really, really thoughtful kid. He's not the type of kid to be overly wowed. He is very thoughtful about the process, almost apprehensive. They go in looking for some red flags, rather than looking for something they really like. Other schools involved: -The source's guess is that he will visit Michigan. He could visit Florida, depending on how the visit goes with Billy Donovan. (Donovan is linked to the Oklahoma Thunder head coaching opening, so that could obviously change things). Kenny has two friends at Florida -Dorian Finney-Smith and Devin Robinson. -Source: "To me the wildcard is Louisville just because (Cardinals assistant) Kenny Johnson has done an unbelievable job of recruiting kids out of (AAU Boo Williams). He knows Kenny. He knows the area. That's a guy, from my experience, that comes in and hits a home run every time. I don't know if Kenny will go there, but I never count (coach Johnson) out in D.C. or Virginia when he is recruiting a kid." -In terms of Virginia, the Cavaliers "weren't very high on Kenny the first go around and now all of sudden they have a spot and need a shooter and they have to change gears and act like they love him." On Michigan: -They did a great job with him the first go around. They like Michigan's two guard offense and thinks he can fit in well there. They really need guys who can stretch the court and shoot. They need taller guards. They can put him in a position where he can handle the ball a bit but don't have to be a point guard. Michigan could be a place that can help turn a player like Kenny Williams into a pro or help him succeed in that program. -Kenny and Dad recognize how he could fit in at Michigan. They know that and understand the process.
Avery Johnson putting the full court press on Terrance Ferguson. I'm not getting my hopes up because the kid is going to have offers from everywhere.
His size for a SG is really impressive. He's a mismatch basically against every team. I believe he's at Mo Williams Academy right now so that's a nice little in for Alabama. May not mean anything in the long run but looks good at the moment. FWIW, Director of Scouting on 24/7 has his crystal ball for Alabama right now. Obviously that doesn't mean much since he's got another year to go.
I know KU has been up on his nuts for more than a year Norm Roberts goes to see him whenever he has been in Texas for 2015 kids.
Yea for us to land him we are going to be battling top basketball schools left and right. Kid is a stud and will be courted by just about every major school with a pulse.
Anything can happen.. We surprisingly dont have great luck with Southern/Texas kids. They seem to stay home even though we've been dominant in the Big 12 for over a decade.
My only wish is that if Ferguson does end up at Alabama, he brings some more talent with him. I don't think we end up landing Langford but I wonder if Ferguson could at least get the ball rolling with some other big time commits, preferably a PF or C with offensive skills.
K Willy news (aka rumors) Spoiler The latest on Williams Everyone wants to know the latest on 2015 L.C. Bird shooting guard Kenny Williams and join the club. After exchanging a few texts with his father and talking to various sources, one thing is clear, this one is fluid. Contrary to what 247Sports’ Ross Martin was told by one Boo Williams source, it’s clear that neither Kenny or his family feel slighted by UVa from his recruitment previous to his commitment to VCU. In fact, it’s the opposite. Virginia was very clear about its intention. The staff told Williams he would likely have a spot if he waited until the spring. And even if UVa didn’t, his stock would be much higher. Both ultimately were true. This isn’t something that wasn’t lost on the family. As for the players here, the consensus is that Michigan isn’t in quite the shape that people first thought they were. Right now, the consensus is that UVa, UNC, and Georgetown have the best shots. Kansas is out. Florida is pushing hard for a visit. On the UVa visit, it sounds like Virginia did exactly what it needed to do to be a player. They impressed Williams and his father with defining the role that the four-star guard would play should he come to UVa, splicing video of Kenny doing the same thing as Joe Harris, then splicing Williams with Klay Thompson, then with Justin Anderson, and then with Malcolm Brogdon. The things that Williams was doing in his film are the same things UVa envisions him doing in Charlottesville. There’s no question that Williams was impressed with aspects of the North Carolina visit. But more than one source (none related to UVa or UNC) felt that UVa held a slight edge after Tuesday’s visit. There was some buzz that Williams may decide between the Wahoos and Tar Heels after the visit but Florida came in Wednesday night and the Gators are jockeying hard for a visit. All this and neither Georgetown nor Michigan have slowed their pursuit. The Williams’ are well aware of the Oklahoma City Thunder opening and Billy Donovan’s name being mentioned associated with it, which further complicates things. Some feel that this one could wrap up rather quickly, while others feel that Williams will take all three of his remaining official visits before making a decision. There’s a lot of pressure on Williams from several parties to make a decision quickly. Whether he does or not, is the big question. Neither a quick decision nor an extended would come as a surprise at this point. Depending on who you talk to, you get a totally different vibe about Williams’ recruitment. He keeps his circle small and because of that, stories from the outside vary widely. The one thing that I’m confident saying right now is that UVa is definitely in the picture and gave the family something to seriously think about.
It really doesn't sound like Michigan is that interested, despite Williams' interest. I don't think you guys have anything to worry about there.
SEC should be interesting next year. I mean, Kentucky will likely still blow everyone away but more in the sense that, as a non-SEC fan, I won't ignore every game that doesn't involve UK.
As a coach Howland >>>> Cal. Let him get a class of his players together and watch out. Not sure how much room/rides he has to give.
I watched a non-negligible amount of that team, but for a large chunk of that era, Florida was what Kentucky is now in terms of dominance. Cal was still at Memphis at that point and UK was a good but not great team. Will be interesting to see what happens with Donovan. I'd prefer him to stay in college, but the idea of him coaching the Thunder is exciting too.
This NCAA thing is murdering UNC in recruiting right now. One signed guy in 2015 and he's not even in the top 100.
Evidently we just signed Nick King (former Memphis player). Won't be eligible next year. Will have two years after though. Anyone know what to expect from him?
Wish he was eligible this season. Seems like Avery Johnson is doing pretty decent on the recruiting trail. Interested to see if we sign another guy or two in this class. Lamonte Turner is looking to reclassify to the 15 class as a SG. And still looking at Willy Kouassi.
Pearl visited with Josh Langford yesterday and watched Josh Jackson today. Looks like we're swinging for the fences. We rarely get bball recruiting updates unless someone commits or its a highly rated recruit
Not sure. Update we got said he scored 41 points(19/24) in whatever game Pearl was watching. Last update we got on his recruitment, he added us to his list of top schools(basically every blue blood bball school)
If only your shit talking had any affect. Would be better if you trotted out the corpse of Sam Gilbert to coach your squad than the joke rape apologist that is Alford.
I havent paid close attention to national recruiting for basketball but how did an Under Armor AAU team get a talent like Jackson? That has to have been a huge win for Under Armor I'd imagine. Especially if they can get him to stick with Under Armor and he ends up being as good as they think he is. I was reading an article on 247 that basically compared some of his athleticism to Wiggins and Kobe Spoiler Shooting Guard: Josh Jackson (2016) Also Considered: Eric Gordon (2007), DeMar DeRozan (2008) One of the reasons for this article was a tweet that Meyer made, calling Jackson potentially the top shooting guard that he’s ever scouted. And while Meyer says that shooting guard is probably the weakest single position that he’s scouted, he’s quick to point out that Jackson has everything to be a sensational player. “Honestly, he has everything you would ever look for in a shooting guard,” Meyer said. “He has that size at maybe 6-8 and that electric athleticism. I haven’t gone this far, but some have compared it to Andrew Wiggins, just so you have some reference. He handles the ball like a yo-yo and he’s a dynamic scorer.” Jackson, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the 2016 247Sports Composite out of Detroit, has also earned a more legendary comparison. “The comparison of Kobe Bryant has come up with him,” Meyer said. “Obviously, you hate to throw out names like that for a high school player. But he has Kobe’s size, electric scoring and athleticism. Now, we’ll see if he even comes close to doing what Kobe did.”
His mom founded the AAU team I believe. His mom pretty much puts him up for bid, one of sleaziest prospects in recent memory.
It appears to have had the desired effect. As shitty a coach as alford is, he has the same number of final fours as sean miller.
