Most pathetic period I've seen from this team. Extremely disappointing. Ever since that damn jersey patch was added
It would be two years in a row they'd have completely fallen apart at first sign of adversity after a nice stretch. Not great at all.
Larkin is easily our best all around player, but the drop off shouldn't be this huge when he's out. Absolutely pathetic all around
I mean this has been the teams MO all season. When they are good, they are actually very good. When they are bad, they are putrid.
I went to like my 10th GR game tonight. I’d say Mazur based on what I’ve seen from both this year, but it’s always so hard to tell what’s gonna translate.
We only get four call ups for the remainder of the regular season, so Berggren will be one of the four. I doubt we rush into any others besides Edvinsson in the near future.
And Vegas gets a few good scoring chances leading to a dumb penalty. Team is completely in its own head right now.
That was a terrible play by Berggren. You can’t telegraph a pass like that in the NHL. Regardless, this team looks toast right now. Our finishing has cratered and our defense is currently the worst it’s been since our December collapse. Yzerman can just play out the string if he wants but there is zero reason to not bring up Edvinsson when this trip ends, other than stubbornness.
I think why not with Edvinsson so call him up to see but I’d venture a guess for the rest of the year he’s not any better than what they have now. He’s not going to be prime Hedman right away
He’s more physically gifted than anyone on the roster, so you have to gamble on the skill/athletic gifts at a certain point. Plus, he’s at the point where he’s too good for the AHL. Let him finish the NHL season here and then he can join GR in the playoffs.
I said to call him up so I agree with you about the skills/talent. I just don’t think he and Berggren for 20 games is some golden ticket item. I’d do it because fuck it but I won’t EXPECT those guys to be any meaningful upgrade on current roster players the rest of the season. Again, do it but I don’t believe it to be that impactful
I feel like this losing streak is in some ways the crossroads for Yzerman as far as what he has planned for the team going forward. All the moves he made the last two years have made us a fringe playoff team, which is massive improvement over where we were when he got to Detroit. In saying that, we can’t have another Summer of short to mid term deals for vets that cap our ceiling and hamstring us from bringing up kids next season. Re-signing Kane is completely acceptable, but bringing back Perron should be a non-starter. Whether he is a great guy in the room or not is irrelevant now because bringing him back further cements our ceiling as a mid level team. At that point you have to give a kid with potential a shot to see if they can bring a different dimension, and develop in the process. I think no matter the outcome of this season, Yzerman needs to clear out the glut of below average D we have, find someone with any level of consistency to pair with Lyon and let the kids develop. Going back to the free agency well again makes no sense.
From these last 18 games we likely need 23 points. Will be a grind but I do think the Islanders could jump Philly.
My expectations this season were to compete for playoffs which they are doing. The way its going down sucks. They have a great prospect pool, future of this team is going to depend on how Edvinsson, Cossa, Mazur, Danielson, Kasper, ASP, etc can contribute in the NHL. While a complete collapse and missing the playoffs would massively suck and I'm not sugar coating that, it wouldn't cause me to hit panic button on the whole rebuild. I am putting more expectations on this offseason and next season though. Have to be better every season
how did banking on prospects being good end up for Al Avila? Need to make good moves in free agency which Yzerman has failed to do.
There aren’t usually many good moves to actually make on UFA. Yzerman needs to trade some prospects to land impact players.
And if this prospect pool fails, Yzerman likely won't make it much longer. But he's already had more success from prospects turning into actual nhl players than the Tigers. No reason to write off the system as busts before they prove it. System looks good now, but we are getting close to the stage where they will be expected to contribute. It's also a deep pool so they should package some into nhl ready players this offseason
Steve Yzerman is never getting fired. The "long does Yzerman have" conversation doesn't need to be had. The answer is "forever."
I don't think his seat is hot. If there isn't improvement next season, it may get a little warm. We've gotten better year over year. Need to keep making those improvement and he's going to be fine
Jesus Christ this team has lost all semblance of hockey sense. That was a brutal pass back to Chiarot but Chiarot showed zero awareness with that pinch.
