I've heard him play that '59 LP and it sounds incredible. Think someone in Skynyrd had it before him.

I like Isbell for a number of reasons. He's a good guy to emulate in general.

I tried listening to Isbell and thought it was dark and depressing. Maybe I need to listen to more of it. My dad agreed though , he's listened to a lot of it and said it was depressing. Dad saw Government Mule at the Beacon in NYC for NYE said the songs from the new album were dark but the cover songs were badass. Did a great cover of Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress. Love me some Government Mule

Cover Me is a masterpiece and not particularly depressing. Also love Cumberland Gap.

What’s the plain head on that Avatar cab? Rehoused bassman maybe? plexi?

Got to be a plexi or clone but the silver plate is throwing me off.

Lol. Come by with a 6 pack and plug into whatever you want, no charge.

Correct, it's a 1987 clone (50 watt Plexi). Cool amp, but I'm actually planning to move that one on because of how much I like the traynor and brown deluxe for those crunchy tones. May eventually try to get a late 70's MV Marshall. The cosmetics are pretty sweet though with the silver face plate and etched labeling.

Wolfetone...awesome pickup winder out of Seattle. It's a nice build, ppimv which I don't use because I have an attenuator, external power tube bias points and controls, etc.

Ceriatone stuff is definitely cool, I've never owned but have looked into it a few times.

For sure. The "all access" series of stuff looks really fun. Tons of switching options for tube vs solid state rectifiers, capacitor values, and other fun stuff.

I’m really torn between something like those or just getting that new Friedman pedal. Thing looks sick and is much cheaper. That being said I’m pretty well set on modeling with BIAS 2.

Get the Friedman pedal and pair with the Seymour Duncan power stage.

Or I think most modelers have that BE pedal and just get the power stage to run a modeler to a cab

Does the power stage do headphones as well? I'm interested in the UAFX Ruby.

I need to start embracing modeling more but I still haven't found a product I can jive with. I hate having to monkey around with a phone or computer while I'm playing and prefer twisting knobs on an amp. Thinking about taking the plunge on the Ruby or that new Kemper pedal at some point just to see if I can make it work for me.

I just think your framing of the discussion is wrong. I think you’re placing too much value in a very small/specific period of popular music. The industry fundamentally changes every generation, and I don’t think it makes sense to say that the 60s/70s generation is somehow more important than anything before or after.

Immediately prior to that time period, major acts merely covered old standards and didn’t perform original music. We’ll never see the Beatles again just like we’ll never see the rat pack again. There will probably never be a trumpet player that is a household name. Shit changes.

Not better or worse. Just different.

Yes. I had to go look at mine lol. I'm not a huge fan of modelers through headphones though because it never sounds right to me.

Also don't get the Kemper. Get the FM-9 or I think line 6/helix has one in an even lower price range. I've heard the Kemper has not aged especially well

Ah...good to know. I did think some of those products were starting to get a little long in the tooth but no clue who has the best tech since I don't follow it closely.

Has to be fm9 over fm3?

Oh yeah I meant the 3 actually. Just getting the fractal models is what you want imo. I think fractal does a great job with their software and if I had it to do over I would get something fractal over the Quad Cortex just to have access to their models

For shits and giggles, I put together an audition for this:

    https://pitchfork.com/news/the-smashing-pumpkins-publicy-seeking-new-guitarist/

I put together a 3 song medley for a 2 minute video and picked them from different eras. I expect exactly zero response, but it was fun to do.

Also, I listened to a few songs on their newest album for the first time and there were actually some good tunes on there. Had no idea they put out a "rock opera," and as cringeworthy as that sounds, there were a couple bangers on there compared to my low expectations.

Does it have the bridge way down at the very bottom of the guitar? I always wondered if that affected how your picking hand rests while you're playing.

Yeah. It’s not in my way so far. I’ll be using palm muting but I bought this to strum and jangle, not chunk and blister through fast runs. More worried I’ll stab something with the tremolo arm since I’m not used to those

A couple of foibles I didn't notice about my Jazzmaster til practice last night:

    • Notes on high E string were muffled. I was like mf, this is why you don't buy a Squier. Then I noticed the pickups had plastic over them and it was touching the string. Peeled that off and fixed that little prob :thumb:
    • The strings will come out of their saddle pretty easily. My pinky sometimes pulls on the high E where I'm anchoring my right hand. Something I usually don't think about much, but I actually pulled the string out of its groove multiple times. Gotta get used to that.

I loathe having a car payment and will let this thing roll until it can’t anymore one I’ve paid it off. That calling is strong.

I already got a “If you buy another fucking mandolin I’m buying the Tiffany earrings I want”
