Drake has always been a fucking cornball. He’s a pop star cosplaying as a rapper. He has no lyrical depth, no social commentary, zero capability to provide the basic dogma of rap and hip hop culture. Sure there’s a bunch of fake ass street niggas out in the rap game but Drake is king cornball.
J Cole decision looking so much better in the light. Dude must've gotten word that this wasn't about to be no friendly competition shit, Kendrick legitimately hates Drake and ain't afraid to take it there. Smart man to get the fuck outta the way and stay clean from this one.
Cole would have been more of a worthy lyrical opponent for Kendrick than drake so that would have been fun but yes this wasnt about the lyrics this some deep visceral hatred
I woke up to insanity, seeing people saying they feel wrong after listening to Meet the Grahams and i'm just like: I love this shit, i'd hope Drake keeps it going but he should probably bow out lol, Kendrick really hates this man and has structured this whole battle in such a genius way. Both guys clearly need receipts though. But damn...
SIAP, but Kendrick did to Drake what Drake did to Meek(having the second one ready to go right after the response)
If i had to pick one, kendrick But for all his flaws drakes given anthems to different points in my life, so i appreciate him for that
Dudes on reddit think they found Drake's daughter. I'm not posting it bc it felt weird even reading it. This whole thing sucks when you stop to think about the kids. Adonis gotta go to school on Monday and you know his friends will ask about it.
I saw some tweet that claimed the girl people think is the daughter was on a poster in the background of the Drake video. “Proving” that Drake knew there was a mole feeding info to Kendrick. No idea if any of that is true.
Never understood the discourse behind Drake having anthems thing That dude been making H&M/Zara fitting room music from the jump
Pre 2018 Drake would still rap now he's gone mostly the Pitbull/Flo-Rida way where its like I can make way more money doing the pop. And I think you're using your bias that you don't like him to still know he had some massive bangers early 2010s
I’ve disliked Drake since I first heard Best I Ever had so yeah I’m completely biased his early shit was a mix of him trying to be a pop star and trying to steal from Little Brother. Pretty sure his first mixtape even had some 9th Wonder beats on it Never once heard a song by him that had me think I was wrong
He’s not my least favorite but I mean idk I’ve just never enjoyed his music and I’ve tried 8am in Charlotte beat is incredible though
You gotta be pushing 50 years old to say that Drake has no anthems. If there's one thing Drake does know how to do extremely well, it's make summertime anthems/party music. They Know Hotline Bling Nice for What Gods plan Started from the bottom The motto Knife talk I'm definitely forgetting a bunch, but these are all huge songs ranging across nearly a decade.
from 2013 to 2017 drake had a 4-album run where I was looking forward to his projects Tuscan Leather / pound cake are timeless
Is rap about making party music? Drake is hands down an iconic pop star of this generation. It’s when he tries to venture into this cosplaying street thug shit that makes me roll my eyes. He makes fun club shit, that doesn’t put him near any pantheon of rap GOAT. The difference to me is when you make a song like MAAD CITY, it becomes iconic and you lyrically never compromised who you are and where you’re from. Nice For What is a fun fucking song but it’s shallow party shit. God’s Plan is solid but it’s pop music. He’s the worst thing on Knife Talk.
Never would anyone put him near the GOAT rapper. Maybe the most successful, but those are 2 different subjects. But just a serious question and I’m not disagreeing with you, but does this whole street lyrics stuff lose a little credit when you do features with Maroon 5, Taylor Swift and imagine Dragons
Drake is not the goat and is not in the same pantheon of rap as a guy like Kenny. My post was specifically addressing someone saying Drake has no anthems. That's just silly. Whether you like them or not, Drake has tons of anthems. That's kind of his specialty.
You must not be on Twitter. His Stan’s have him as the GOATED rapper. Method Man did a song with Limp Biscuit but Method Man never went full pop. He never compromised. Also the lyrics from the Imagine Dragons song, Kendrick goes fucking hard. He’s not rapping about popping ass or dancing.
I wasnt even talking radio anthems on the pop end of things. Im talking stuff on the spectrum of: Who Do You Love w/ YG Yes Indeed w/ Lil Baby Energy No Lie w/ 2 Chainz Aston Martin Music + stay schemin w/ Ross Look Alive w/ BlocBoy JB the party anthems he makes for girls, not so much. I hated hotline bling
Kendrick has always said that he's not a gangster, but has always been surrounded by them due to his environment. He's got people in his circle that are really bout that life because he grew up with them and has organic relationships with them.Hence- good kid, mad city. I think that's the difference is that Kendrick comes across as authentic whereas Drake comes off as a fake gangster who isn't really from that life, but tries to buy street cred by surrounding himself with hired goons and talking tough now that he's rich.
You have some dumb people but no one in here is saying this. Yes I’m bias because of the Canadian link but you’ll never hear me say it. I was just asking a question about how people lump Drake into “Hip Pop” and I won’t disagree with it either. I like the rapper Drake and not the RB/Pop Drake. But my point was people are discrediting Drake rapping because he makes pop but Kendrick has made pop songs albeit not as much.
