I don't know if I'd call it terrible. It wasn't offensively bad like Last Stand, or just stupidly bad like Origins:Wolverine. It was just terribly mediocre. It wasted it's villain, who happened to be the biggest and baddest bad guy the Xmen have (not counting Magneto, who hasn't been a true villain since the first move in 2000), and really neutered him relative to the comics
Haven't read the thread yet, but just saw the new X-Men. It's pretty bad. There were some okay moments, and I still liked a few of the performances, but damn it could have been so much better.
It amazes me how almost everyone involved in the very good DOFP could have made such a mediocre movie two years later.
Someone posted a Cap/Hydra theory to explain it. If that's what's going on in will take back what I said. That would be a cool twist and story
Was no Matthew Vaughn involvement like the last two. Although, Vaughn's DOFP script took place in the 80's instead of the 70's. Fox just saw the box office for DOFP and greenlit this without ever reading the script.
I kind of liked apocalypse. It's not a masterpiece but it was entertaining. Wished they would have given psylock and angel a little more to do, but over all solid. Costumes at the end were dope.
Should be expected when the character was only put in the film because they saw fan art of Munn as Psylocke and ran with it. The 4th Horseman was originally going to be Xavier.
Didn't like Apocalypse at all. DOFP really jumped the shark for Xmen. Timeline reset is just so bad...
Just saw X-Men: Apocalypse. If give it a 7/10. Wasn't as bad as some you all make it out to be, just more of a letdown after the high of DOFP and 1st class. Really wish they would've given Psylocke, Storm and Angel's characters more to work with though. They were just kind of there to be there because of Apocalypse's need for 4 Horsemen. I do like that Psylocke got away in the end though. Sets up her character for the inevitable sequel. Also, once again Quicksilver steals the show
The ceiling for X-Force is extremely high. I think if Fox even fucks it up it still will be a solid movie. Give it to the right filmmakers and the potential is amazing.
Kinberg's currently writing it unfortunately. I wish they'd let Tim Miller run with the X movies going forward.
I just want to say that the problems with the xmen movies are why we don't need them in the mcu, too many characters and not enough time to give them enough to do.
Sentinels and Magneto are the only ones I can think that are bigger and magnetos more of a rival and sentinels are just foot soldiers. Who's bigger?
Apocalypse > Phoenix? also never really read any comics before but are the x-men part of a different universe than marvel?
different cinematic, yes. in the comics, it's complicated. And Phoenix isn't really a recurring villain like Mastermind, Sinestro, Apocalypse, etc
Not the way the movie portrayed him. He had none of the gravitas, scale or "weight" that Thanos has (and certainly will have in Infinity War) or Darkseid (if the tease in BvS is any indication). Singer and Kinsberg treated Apocalypse like a chump. He mostly hopped from place to place, giving speeches and then took a nap during the final battle. Yeah there was widespread destruction across the globe, but that's been done so much it was just white noise.
Minor annoyance that I can't let go: Remember the end of Days of Future Past? Not the part where Wolverine wakes up and everyone is alive and happy. I mean the part set in the 70’s, when he’s pulled out of the water by Stryker. We assume he’s being taken to begin the Weapon X program, but nope: Stryker is revealed to by Mystique in disguise. According to screenwriter (of both DOFP and Apocalypse) Simon Kinsberg… Okay…but in this movie none of that happened. Stryker–the real one–has Logan and has made him Weapon X. As far as this movie is concerned, Mystique never had anything to do with him, making the scene at the end of the previous movie, not just pointless, but an actual plot hole.
Never a good look when you retcon your own movie 2 years later without any explanation. There was no need to have that ending in DOFP. Kinberg's answer to it is even more infuriating.
I hope we continue to get ZERO information about what films come out after Infinity War. I know that's going to be damn near impossible when we get into 2018/19 and preproduction has to start up, but I'm hoping they keep it on Force Awakens-level lockdown until IWpt2 opens.
Rewatching Earth's Mightiest Heroes for about the twentieth time. It is a shame it didn't get a third season and was morphed into Avengers Assemble. It seems they were setting up a good story arch for Certur that just got dropped after they introduced Beta Ray Bill.
He would have more substance in three words than either Hillary or Trump could have with three hundred.
I was incredibly depressed when they took it off Netflix. Between this and young justice, it was an excellent animated show selection.
This is funny. I just read an article last week on her, and how she turned down the role of Deadpool's girlfriend who ends up helping to kick ass at the end of the movie, and is merc, like him), because she didn't want to play the "girlfriend." And then her action got way cut down in Apocalypse. Maybe she agreed because of an increased role in X-Force? It's still kind of funny...
Yeah, plus they could've use the Infinity Gauntlet story as the big overarching storyline for season 3
I watched apocalypse twice. Not as bad the second time around. It's a fun movie that isn't supposed to make you think. But! Time for a complete cleanse and maybe let Marvel help. Fox will want to when they see how good Spider-Man will be
- I'd be open to hearing a pitch to combine both major fox properties (x men and f4), throw the Shi'ar in there - Recast wolverine and put him in deadpool
