motaro is cool. i haven't watched deep dive gameplay but are kameos literally just there for a move or a quick thing each time? two button press kinda thing? just kinda sucks if so that some awesome characters like sektor/cyrax won't be fully playable in that case.
Some Kameo characters are fully playable and some are not and yeah some kameo characters attack, some reflect projectiles, seems to be some variation
Too many good games out at the same time. Just got Baldur’s Gate and still working on Armored Core. Anybody played MK1 yet and have a recommendation?
I’m so far behind. I’ll probably be getting this next week with standard version but Alan Wake next month too. Just too much.
it's not that its bad, i just haven't played enough for a verdict. story also seems more tongue in cheek this time around thus far...a lot more comedy in it and less serious tone. i'm only like 6 acts into it though. once i find a character i enjoy playing i think it'll open up for me more but thus far i've found combat a bit more...something...than past games which i felt i could pick up easier. in general like i thought before at least thus far its a lot "brighter" and more colorful than previous games and i kinda miss that doom and gloom tone of the others. might get there by stories end or something, i assume that's where we're going with everything, but it just feels odd in an MK game... also thus far megan fox voice acting is just terrible... go figure.
I recall Ronda being awful but the line that killed me in this is some out of the blue "just because we drink blood doesn't make us vampires evil" as she goes on to do some evil stuff. Also said as you'd expect an unenthused hot girl to say it.
i would also like to add that i'm more or less a button masher that knows the general patterns of moves but has never been successful at learning actual combos and i'm just a very basic player. so if you're into fighting games at a more advanced level i'd say don't listen to me at all on this stuff, i am just coming from a perspective of an enjoyer of mk1-3 and then 9-11 as a casual player who thinks scorpion is cool. its the only fighting game i'll play. so don't look to me and say "yeah i should or shouldn't get this" because i'm by no means a good barometer. that said, just going off preferences alone, i feel like button mashing felt better in the other games and the fighting almost felt more fluid or something than this one... just seems its harder for me to connect strings or something on this and the combat feels worse to me as a casual player because of it. the story thus far has been intriguing and fun overall, not as dark as i mentioned earlier which i kind of miss but i assume it'll get there. invasion mode is definitely better than krypt and such previously. my one main gripe right now is the game almost feels...bare bones? just seems like a lot of features that were in previous games aren't there, like AI fights, gear is much more toned down -- which is fine i guess, i don't know, can't really pinpoint it but just feels "less" to me at this early point in my playing. i'm also not a fan this early of the leveling up of each character for mastering them to get brutalities, pallettes, etc. the xp gain is minimal and youre only doing it on one character out of 24 (at this point) and not knowing how many levels it will take to fully unlock each character seems super daunting and annoying that i can't just have most of the stuff i'd want on them fairly early on. i've been playing with Rain for hours on end and am only level 6 on him. if it goes to 50 or 100 or something, that's going to be ridiculous to do for more than 1 character.
Not as good as the last one, but it’s fun very much in the vein on the crazy games from the 2000’s definitely more tongue in cheek than the last one this game feels like prep for the next game to be honest just finished the story, agree the combos aren’t as fluid and then I’ll occasionally seem to launch into a giant combo on accident occasionally
The towers of time were so good, miss that feature big time interested to see what you think when you finish the story, a lot of people are going to hate the last act I think
few more thoughts after some hours playing multiple modes and characters tonight: story is getting interesting more now that im like...chapter 13 or something in it. for IV's eyes only: Spoiler i just saw alternate timeline shang tsung reveal and have left off with our shang tsung's gameplay chapter. frankly i'm so sick of multiverse things not only in these games but in every franchise currently, that i'm pretty disappointed to see them go this route with the story, but i don't hate the story itself. just not a fan of yet another multiverse storyline. i am glad in general that shang tsung seemingly is the big bad though...he's just such a good villain and is acted really well in this one i feel. also ermac becoming jerrod is just odd looking and kinda lame in my opinion. i was hoping that sindel would kiss him and turn out to be a necrophiliac though, possibly because i'm a deviant with a sick sense of humor. some characters feel a lot better than others, at least for my (chaotic) playstyle. li mei was the surprise to me, considering i feel like her character is super bland in general, but i had fun playing her during her story portion. reptile is a bit tougher for me, as is rain but i like them both so whatever. they're my invasion go-tos. sindel also worked really well for me, i liked her a lot even though i'm not a big fan of the character itself. inspected the character mastery further and was happy to see that its only 35 levels per character and not 50 or 100, and only 15 for kameos. that seems a lot more manageable than what my mind was assuming it would be. invasions is fun still, i wish camera could look around and see whole map so i could better figure out what i missed, where to go next, etc. and just in general to look around. also hope next game if including this goes for more of a free roam rather than board game vibe to it...would be nice to walk around the spaces outside of node movement. can't help but feel kameo's could've just been full characters with a little bit more time and effort... all the specials are basically there, copy over some common gameplay moves, add a few voicelines and we're good i feel like. obviously more to it than that but they are pretty fleshed out already...
Invasion is getting better and already got a cooler seasonal scorpion skin then I got the entirety of 11 like you said time commitment is actually way easier the way they have it set up
For Karl Spoiler after thinking about it the first 2/3rds of the story are great and then it just falls apart, i hated the finale
am i missing something or does liu kang not have a bicycle kick or flying kick this game??? treason...
this last 1/3... lol. Spoiler feel like the jumping off point for this ending was someone writing on the white board in the brainstorm session "quan chi with tits" and ed was like "that's it folks...how can we make this happen?"
final verdict from me, an uninformed reviewer and casual player without skill (but decent taste in narrative): if you like marvel phase 4, you'll probably like this. this feels like mortal kombat was purchased by disney and they made a disney+ series about it... entertaining enough but feels very uncreative and almost like a retread. just watered down mortal kombat story, a bit too tongue-in-cheek, etc. all in all i think this mortal kombat is outclassed by the last 3 in my time playing. still fun, still MK, but all in all this seems like a step back in most areas i feel. Spoiler first issue outside of what i already mentioned of multiverse retread stuff, is that it seemed so cliche and predictable with things like shang tsung failing to destroy the hourglass, then liu kang like "you've failed" and shang like "not yet, i'll get you next time!" and just going home... so bizarre and lame. then we jump forward to all the timelines uniting against shang and quan chi, thousands of dudes ready to destroy them, and they're like "nah we got this" and open up the portal for some of their timelines warriors to fight back...and that's it, that's their weapon? some 300 type b.s.? and the whole time i'm wondering "what's happening, why are we all here at this pyramid, what is shang doing up there, how will this destroy all the timelines, etc.? never explained, none of that ending made any sense at all. then you're led to believe that only liu and the character you chose from another timeline survived but we flash forward to the shwarma moment where the guys are all back and everythings normal again in the timeline and the original crew is just eating and having a nice time and give the "until next time." it just made no sense and was extremely lazy writing. at the beginning of armageddon i was thinking "oh wait this is pretty cool, gonna fight some folks that didn't make it into this game" like what i believe was cyber smoke and all. then sonya ends up with a kano eye and the icing on the cake was fighting scorpion/kung lao hybrid which they named Stung Lao... and i facepalmed. just way too cutesy and dumb for what i expect from a mortal kombat game. the easter eggs, jokes, etc. are a mainstay in these games but i don't think they should be in the main story outside of quips from johnny. it just made it all feel super corny. final part of my rant: honestly why do we have timelines where quan chi is a woman? none of this made sense from what i gathered. liu kang fights shang and the "power" of that fight splits the timelines so liu and shang should be the only timeline keepers. but apparently that's not the case so it fractured prior to that to where whoever "won" against kronika would be timeline keeper. wouldn't that limit it to the fighters only in mk11...or even all the fighters ever? and i figured timeline keepers could only craft history, etc. does that include removing chromosomes in utero to make people different sexes? i don't know, i don't get it. they also never addressed what the hell happened to hanzo.
Should’ve just gone with the evil ending for the MK11 DLC and continued the story from there. Just like for Injustice 3, the story should follow the evil ending from Injustice 2.
more i play invasions, the more i'm realizing it's an oddly broken mode. the rpg element of putting stats in stuff makes it ridiculously easy if you just max out attack - like 2 uppercuts finishes an opponent bad. but in boss battles that seemingly is negated and its super hard. it's just very odd how extreme on either side the difficulty can swing, its not very satisfying to play. feel like they'll patch it to make the stats less impactful than they are currently.
Just started. 3 chapters in on the story. Played a tower for a few minutes. so far I like the feel. I’m also more of a button mashing until I feel like a character just fits my mashing patterns well. We will see how that goes but overall it feels right. Kameo system feels clunky at first. It’s reminds me of the power rangers game. I also love that they simplified the characters. No 100 variations each with like 100000 customization options. It was way over the top before. It feels more like MK to keep characters mostly as intended.
I’ve played it for a day now. Did some story mode. The new lore works. Fighting feels pretty good with ease to pick up moves but counters will be a little harder to feel natural. My main gripe is the selection of characters in the initial batch. Too many new ones for my liking. Would like to see some of the Kameo ones as playable instead. Just let me play Sektor or Kabal again. Graphics are fantastic.
i know i'm bitching a lot about this game, it's a good game overall, but i must bitch again... why did they only make 9 inventory slots for talismans but insist on giving me 1-3 talismans after every other encounter during invasions? i'm constantly discarding those stupid ass medals. so annoying the amount of inventory management in a freaking mortal kombat game...
I’ve only played story and a tower but man I know it’s a novice tower, but it didn’t even have a boss fight on medium/default difficulty. Like I fought Shang tsung but he was no more difficult than the first fight. It doesn’t have to be THAT easy. having fun with kenshi so far tho
