You're not wrong. My interest in the band is Frusciante first, Flea second, Will Ferrell third, Kiedis's melodies fourth, Kiedis lyrics N/A
Gonna check this out but with the exception of a song or two off of Stadium they haven’t done anything worth a fuck since One Hot Minute and it’s sad.
It's funny. I hear fans of bands complaining when bands stray too far from the sounds of their "old stuff." You get (or got) a lot of that from Foo Fighter fans who want every album to be Monkey Wrench and Learn to Fly on repeat. I happen to enjoy when bands try out new sounds and evolve the style a bit while always retaining enough of their own signature sound. It's just more interesting that way. I'm a handful of songs into the new RHCP and it just sounds like cookie cutter Chili Peppers so far. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about. Though so far, I do like the jazz influence on Aquatic Mouth Dance.
Imagine how it feels for the band too. You've heard that radio single 100 times. They've played it 10000 times. Anyone in their position would change and grow with the times. If they don't, you know it's solely about selling records. So good topic for this thread
Take: No band has stayed true to their sound, while still exploring new territories, better than Deftones.
What's really changed since White Pony? Seems they've all had some digital/ambient elements since then
I always think of Metallica "Load" on this subject. That's a great example of changing the style quite a bit but still being good (after you calm down and get used to it for a second)
U2 is the only band I've heard sound almost completely different from one album to the next and it still work
I'd argue the same for Pink Floyd. There are ups and downs in the catalog, but really no total flops.
This seems like the thread to say nickelback wasn’t as bad now that imagine dragons replaced them as the obnoxious band nickelback still sucks but imagine dragons is next level absolute garbage
I don’t really understand the concept of this thread what bands would this thread consist of? seems like it’d mostly be butt rock bands
I thought Dark Necessities was a good song but Kiedis lyrics make less and less sense as he gets older
that's the height of the awfulness iyam By the Way, Can't Stop, Zepher, Dosed etc etc are terrible almost on the verge of being hacky at times a real low point
My concept was music on major labels that’s not already covered by one of the other threads basically
I am a huge Frusciante fanboy, so I will not accept this slander. I really enjoy this new album. It’s not their best, but it is worthy of a listen.
when my debit card number got stolen to buy machine gun kelly tickets at red rocks I was more concerned about clearing the record that I had not purchased $2k in machine gun kelly tickets than the $2k
This is an elite coverup of your love for Machine Gun Kelly and his operatic covers of early 2000s Nu Metal.
I’ll probably catch shit for this opinion but I’m prepared for the consequences of my post… Alt J put on a very solid live show. This was my 3rd time seeing them and once again they sounded great. Visually it was super compelling and creative. Maybe I’m mellowing out a bit in my mid 30’s or maybe it’s because they’re noticeably heavier live than on their albums but either way they’re worth checking out.
Also Portugal the Man were hilariously fun too. Their set opened with a Metallica/Slayer/Pantera cover medley and included a custom Bevis & Butthead intro, In Bloom, Gimmie Shelter, & DayMan from It’s Always Sunny. Not at all what I was expecting.
Alt-J is indie thread material bro. I’m liking their 2022 album a lot And I saw them a few years ago and it was like this, lots of cool light effects and whatnot
