I played Lacrosse which plays on the same size field so I'm pretty sure I am in good enough shape too.
lol jharris what HS did you go to? if you are telling the truth i will recognize it assuming you are talking about your jr or senior year. I am class of 06 FWIW.
not going to speak for everyone, but i would highly doubt anyone here played at a higher level as i played at my peak. anyone here make ODP?
Lincoln East. http://nscaa.com/hsRes.php?it=101 we won more games then Christian Brothers, therefor we are better
that's what I'm talkin about A lot of the players on my team did, and played against pretty much every player on the kansas ODP team(wasn't that good). I played on the 2nd best team in Kansas, always lost to the same team
I have a home video of me getting burned by Landon Donovan when we were 12, and went up against him and his team (Cal Heat) a few more times, once right before he left for the U-17 WC. There was actually a player on Landon's team that was better than he was that was from Costa Rica, but then he got lazy and fat at about 15 y/o. I had a couple partial ride offers to D2 schools (Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino), but I went in a different direction. My coach during my club years (from 14-18) was Carlos Bocanegra's brother and Carlos would come out every now and then (this was while he was at UCLA winning an NC).
Imagine a 5'9'', 165 white guy that runs a 4.5, who has very little touch and has no regard for his own safety or anyone else's on the pitch. That's me. I play sweeper and compare myself to Gattuso. The type of guy that you hate to play against, but love to play with (no homo).
In your 20 posts you have worked your way up to #3 on my favorites. 1-JHarris 2-Chilean In reality, it's mainly due to the great name.
captained my HS team to a #2 finish in the state of North Carolina...and I dare say this state has the best soccer in the country though it would be tough to prove. the only thing I can really point to is the success of the college programs and the CASL teams (Red Caps, White Caps, etc.) that have been winning a lot of national championships lately. some of the kids on my team that played Select travel club soccer basically never lost a game. i know Georgia, Florida, and Texas are strong as well. what are some other states with high-level soccer from youth to college?
This is something I asked myself this morning and I am not really sure. I would think that states like California, Texas and Florida would have a lot of talent given their immigrant population, however, a lot of those immigrants dont play in travel teams or club teams so it would be harder to gauge appropriately. I know the soccer down here in S.Fla is of a very high level and the leagues are very competitive.
Was pretty good when I was 13 then stopped playing, wish I'd played in hs. Club soccer was fucking bullshit, at least on my team politics were a joke. Played a few years with Delbert Alvarado whos USFs kicker.
California > Carolinas for soccer That being said, I was pretty surprised with the talent level of the Carolinas. I know a few players who just won the National Championship for U18 club soccer, and the team was just ridiculous. They had one of the best seniors in the country and his brother who ESPN said is the most wanted recruit for this year. Also have to factor in academies. A ton of talent is going that way, especially in CA and FL, instead of club.
texas, ca, florida are at the top. then you have good teams in georgia, carolinas, pennsylvania, ohio. not sure why but they always have some teams. the state of texas is retarded, colleges are so obsessed with fball here, that we only have 2 D1 programs. SMU and someone else who i forget who just added a program in the last 2 years.
I went to see a couple of the women's games because we were pretty good (went to the final four like 4 years in the last 6 or something like that), but it was so painful to watch. I felt like I was watching soccer at a slower speed and that I could get on the field and dominate.
we won the natty in womens both my years at Carolina. went to one game each year and couldn't make it past halftime. thing is, we won the natty in mens as well...went to one of those games and was nearly equally unimpressed. i had season tix to Bayern the year before so there was basically no way i was going to be satisfied, but it was still honestly very slow.
Ohio soccer is pretty good--not the best by any means-- Id say out of the collection of teams Ive played in tournaments it would be Florida easily. But Ive only played a few from California and Texas. and I am obviously the best soccer player here
