Was discussed regarding Riddick Bowe and Meldrick Taylor on the Legendary Nights series. Bowe in particular trying to go through US Marine boot camp was as hilarious as it was sad, like you can't motivate yourself to get it shape for a fight where you make millions but you'll deal with a drill sergeant?
There's been several bizarre incidents in boxing where I wonder what the hell was going on like Oliver McCall crying in the ring during a fight. Then Garcia doing whatever it is he's doing and it's best to just not think about it real hard.
He's a really likeable dude but I think Spence rolls him easily. I don't want to be too hard on Tszyu because that cut was a bitch and he couldn't see the entire fight and taking on someone so tall that late in training camp is tough. Landed the heavier punches it looked like in person but would get tagged and countered 2-3 shots before he could get away from Fundora's reach. Saying he'd fight Crawford was laughable and Bud tweeted as much but he didn't make excuses and showed a lot of class after taking the L. Last night was the most disappointing fight experience I've had in Vegas (although still a good time). Pitbull fight was the most electric atmosphere because of the strong Mexican crowd as expected. If anyone knows a way to see a full replay of the night, I'd appreciate it.
I wonder about those late switches of opponents. Ruiz was a late switch when he beat Joshua the first time. You basically have to throw the gameplan you've trained for out the window. I'll be interested where Tszyu goes. I don't think that was the best version of him last night but some guys are never the same after a loss
I think you often get a lesser quality opponent on paper but it doesn't seem like it plays out that way as much as it should. Props to Tszyu for taking him on but fighting a guy last minute who just held a belt and is an oddity at that height in the weight class may have been a bad decision in retrospect
Without the cut it is a different fight and probably a different outcome. I am bringing that up because it was a freak accident and not a result a punch. It’s easy to say it was a mistake to take the fight.
Agit Kabayel and Frank Sanchez will clash on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undercard on May 18. The intriguing meeting of unbeaten heavyweights has been added to the show in Saudi Arabia, which was supposed to take place in February.

Also on the card: Skye Nicolson vs Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC featherweight title, and one or both of the Yafai and Castro fights mentioned above. Where will you be watching when you see Jimerr Espinosa take on Angel Martinez, both looking to bounce back from defeat, in this BoxRec two-star special?
Unless you're fighting at the absolute highest level I don't think a change of opponents ultimately means that much, obviously there are exceptions like if the opposing fighter has a totally different syle or whatnot. Possibly a stupid take but seems like regular training is so tilted towards keeping a guy sharp regardless of who he is facing and if you're legit only other legit fighters will bother you, such is the amount of skill at that level. I'm not sure how common it is but apparently Meldrick Taylor was urinating pure blood after the Chavez fight. Maybe this is Legendary Nights creating a narrative but he obviously blew what he made from big fights and speech patterns were clearly fucked up. It's yet another reason the Fab 4 in the 80s is a legit good story. Hagler made it to 66 and died of natural causes and while each has had issues the other 3 are stll kicking. Jealous we didn't get those kinda fights in this mass tv era.
Ali was pissing blood after one of the Frazier fights. They both spent several days in the hospital after one of the fights as well. Ali said fighting Frazier felt like dying. They also were doing 15 rounds back then. Brutal
Yeah that's mild as hell. Other than the slurred speech that was nothing. Sometimes you fuck up and get that drunk. No one plans to. It just happens.

The 24-year-old heavyweight blue chipper takes on Belgium’s Merhy, a former cruiserweight contender who moved up in weight a couple years ago. He lost to Kevin Lerena in May 2023, but came back seven months later to “upset” Tony Yoka in France. Also: Efe Ajagba takes on Guido Vianello in a make-or-break for both heavyweights, and a possible next opponent for Anderson if all goes according to plan. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ AO Arena, Manchester, England (DAZN) Start time: 7 p.m. UK / 2 p.m. ET Main event ringwalks (approx): 9:57 p.m. UK / 4:57 p.m. ET Jordan Gill +182 Zelfa Barrett -230 Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett, super featherweights, 12 rounds Ellie Scotney vs Segolene Lefebvre, super bantamweights, 10 rounds, for Scotney’s IBF title and Lefebvre’s WBO title Rhiannon Dixon vs Karen Elizabeth Carabajal, lightweights, 10 rounds, for vacant WBO title Cameron Vuong vs Jordan Flynn, lightweights, 10 rounds Michael Gomez Jr vs Kane Baker, super featherweights, 10 rounds Gill moved up to 130 last time out and stopped Michael Conlan in seven. He’s a good but vulnerable fighter, which generally makes him exciting to watch even if he’s not an Arturo Gatti or Diego Corrales type of Action Superstar. Barrett can really box, but like Gill is vulnerable. Must-win for these guys to stay in the mix at 130 for the moment. Also: Two women’s world title fights, as Ellie Scotney and Segolene Lefebvre unify a pair of super bantamweight belts, and Rhiannon Dixon faces Karen Elizabeth Carabajal for the vacant WBO lightweight title.
this is a great question. The US has always been the litmus test when it comes to a person “making” it or not. With the current influx of Saudi money with so many streaming platforms now, is the US still that? Does it really matter if you’re big here?
Utter delusion and it fits perfectly with these guys fighting once or twice a year pretending they're close to Mayweather/Pac famous.
