SAAF Mig-21 went down in North Hama, unsure if it was the result of AA fire or mechanical difficulties. The pilot died while landing. Sami @Paradoxy13 #Breaking: FSA Jaish al-Nasr confirms reports & Jaish al-Islam takes responsibility for downing an Assad Mig-21 with AA fire #Hama, #Syria Ibrahim Joudeh @Ibra_Joudeh new reports , the Pilot Musa Trekman of the fallen Jet died suffering from his injuries , he was hit by guns while parachute landing
If true that's completely fucked up (yes I know everything over there is fucked up). Pretty sure civilized countries don't shoot at pilots ejecting from aircraft.
Officially no, but it'd happen. We're just always on the team with aircraft so we don't see our guys doing it. Same reason why guys in machine gun nests always turned up dead in WW1/2. People tend to take revenge upon those who were killi them with impunity moments ago.
Important to note that the SAAF is primarily Alawite and after years of civil war pretty much every pilot has participated in killing civilians. Honestly for those guys it's probably better to die like that as opposed to being alive and getting tortured to death.
Because it hasn't had to. The wars we've fought since Vietnam have more or less been "destroy enemy and then occupy or depart" not "fight tooth and nail for years". If we got into the shit with a real enemy, the Nicenice rules we try to abide by now would come back fast.
I doubt we'd ever see things like carpet bombing become an accepted part of war again. Hopefully we never find out.
Well, we did use weapons that poisoned a lot of land and caused tons of developmental diseases in children in Fallujah and stuff I mean, sure, it isn't executing someone in the heat of the moment instead of imprisoning them, but those weapons have to be created and designed to do those sorts of things, and people had to have been told to use them, so it bothers me
Think there were more kinds of stuff. https://web.archive.org/web/2015110.../2012/04/those-laboratory-mice-were-children/ Vice did a story on it too, on its show and a couple articles like http://www.vice.com/read/karlos-zurutuza-on-iraq-unfolding-medical-nightmare

I've read other articles that say the effects of DU rounds haven't been tied to increases in cancer rates, etc. Maybe they are just biased. In regards to the VICE article, the US doesn't deny using DU rounds, and I believe only two countries in the world ban them. I'm also confused about your statement that those weapons are designed for that stuff? Are you saying DU rounds were designed to cause cancer or birth defects?
Im saying someone had to put them together and know them inside out, and that that sort of thing is a possibility. I'm not saying the military ordered them to be like that, they kinda just buy what they're told to buy
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. They were designed to pierce armor. Any side effects are not a reason that they were designed or used. Especially when the side effects are disputed. I don't think that whoever designed them was all "let's make ammo to cause birth defects or cancer".
I may not communicating it well, what I'm saying that it was done and designed thoughtlessly (hopefully, anyway) and that these consequences became glossed over or ignored. There are a ton of reports on prototypes for this or that that the military uses that also environmental impacts for their things http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a956443.pdf They do account for environmental impacts for a lot of different things when trying new things out
OK yes they may have overlooked that or figured the risks were minor. I thought you were saying they were designed that way on purpose.
http://rudaw.net/NewsDetails.aspx?pageid=201231 ISIS commander al-Shishani reported to be ‘clinically dead’ ERBL, Kurdistan Region- The Islamic State’s (ISIS) war minister Omar al-Shishani is believed to be “clinically dead” days after it was reported that he was killed in an air strike in Syria. “Shishani is not able to breathe on his own and is using machines. He has been clinically dead for several days,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, according to AFP news agency. Abdel Rahman said ISIS war minister is hospitalized in the ISIS capital of Raqqa province in northern Syria. US defense officials said last week that al-Shishani was killed in an air strike in the town of Shaddadi. Al-Shishani was a top ISIS commander who was posted to the Kobani front during the siege of the Kurdish city in 2014. Shaddadi was recently taken from ISIS by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that includes a large number of the Kurdish Peoples Protection Units (YPG)

They also likely realize how inept the SAA is and don't wanna commit the forces that Assad would need to launch any serious offensive. Now they just have to hope the SAA can hold onto what they've gained.
Only counts after America got involved. Until then it was UK/France/Russia* v Germany/Italy and China v Japan.
I was actually worried about these guys until now. If they're getting ISIS HR department members to snitch, this things in the bag. Snag that dental plan open enrollment file and that's all she wrote.

Reports have been coming out the past few days that Bashar's brother Maher al-Assad has been moved to the General Staff of the SAA. Article in spoiler, sorry for the shit formatting. Spoiler Maher al-Assad moved from key command: pro-regime outlet The Latakia News Network claimed that the Syrian president's powerful brother has been transferred from his command of the 4th Armored Division. BEIRUT – A popular pro-regime Facebook page has claimed that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s powerful brother has been moved out of his de-facto command of the elite 4th Armored Division. “Maher al-Assad has been transferred from the command of 4th Armored Division’s 42nd Brigade to the General Staff [of the Syrian Army],” the Latakia News Network—which has a following of over 200,000 people—alleged overnight Thursday. Latakia News Network’s post was met with shock and incredulity by the regime-supporting fans of the Facebook page. One commentator, Hagop Georgi, asked the administration of the outlet if their report was true “or just empty words?” He added that officers transferred to the Syrian army’s General Staff were “quasi-frozen,” implying their influence and status was checked. Another Facebook user, Hussein N Ismail, voiced hope that the Latakia News Network confirmed their report so that followers of the outlet “lose trust in the news on your page.” The administrators of the group responded to both posts with assurances that the report was correct, prompting Ismail to insist that he heard Maher al-Assad had not been transferred. Yet another commentator warned the Latakia News Network that “you can’t hide the dog that has already barked,” in reference to their highly controversial claim. The post by the Facebook news page adds further fuel to rumors swirling around Maher al-Assad. The pro-rebel Al-Etihad press claimed on March 16 that the Syrian president’s brother had been transferred to the General Staff’s Information Department, a move that would “deprive him of his influence as a field officer [commanding] one of the strangest strike units in the Syrian army.” Al-Etihad added that General Ali Mahmoud would replace Maher al-Assad as commander of the 4th Armored Division’s 42nd Brigade. Although Maher al-Assad is technically only the commander of the brigade, he has de-facto leadership over the whole 15,000-man strong 4th Armored Division, which is one of the key units protecting the Syrian regime.

The official said the American died in Makhmur, CBS Radio News correspondent Cami McCormick reports. Earlier, a statement from U.S. Central Command said that a coalition service member died in Iraq "as a result of enemy action" but didn't identify the service member or list their nationality.

Anybody have a take on why the bomb maker would be a part of the attack? You'd think he would be needed for potential future plots.
