As much as I think the wide receivers on this team are early McNabb era terrible, drafting a WR at 8 would be a disaster at that spot with the clear need to revamp the offensive line and anyone with a heartbeat who can cover or tackle or preferably both in the back 7 on defense. Stanley, Hargreaves, Jack would all delight me to no end.
Broncos acquired QB Mark Sanchez from the Eagles in exchange for a conditional late-round draft pick in 2017. On absolute fire, Eagles GM Howie Roseman has now found trade partners for Sanchez, DeMarco Murray, Kiko Alonso, and Byron Maxwell. Maxwell, Sanchez, and Murray were clear contract dumps, while Alonso was entirely ineffective in 2015. Sanchez, 29, went 4-6 across ten starts with Philadelphia the past two seasons, compiling an 18:15 TD-to-INT ratio with a 7.6 yards-per-attempt average. The quarterback-needy Broncos will absorb his $4.5 million base salary. Sanchez should be viewed as nothing more than a backup in Denver, or perhaps a short-term stopgap placeholder while a superior long-term option gets ready.
Would be a fan of this... NJ Advance Media's Mark Eckel reports the Eagles have "serious interest" in free agent DT Nick Fairley. The Philadelphia Inquirer brought up the Eagles as a possible landing spot for Fairley early in free agency. Fairley was drafted by new Eagles DC Jim Schwartz in Detroit, and he would give the defensive line rotation a true 4-3 tackle. The Jets are also rumored to be interested.
Eagles re-signed CB Nolan Carroll to a one-year contract. Carroll took a visit with the Cowboys, but he will return for his third season in Philadelphia. Arguably the Eagles' best corner before going down with a broken ankle on Thanksgiving Day, Carroll should have the inside track on a starting spot. He turned 29 in January.
Someone that can actually stretch the field, which we clearly missed last year... Eagles signed WR Chris Givens, formerly of the Ravens, to a one-year contract. Givens reunites with Sam Bradford, who he had the most success with in St. Louis from 2012-2013, posting a 60-993-3 line across 22 games. Givens' career arc has been in steady decline ever since. In Philadelphia, he'll compete with Josh Huff for snaps behind Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor.
I think that was design to be honest. The two slowest WRs on the field had the longest receptions for us.
Eagles EVP of football operations Howie Roseman said the most successful backs in the league tend to be "high picks." "There’s this narrative that you can get running backs in the fifth, sixth, seventh round and undrafted free agency," Roseman said. "But when you look back at the last ten years of guys that are really in the top ten in rushing, those guys are high picks." Roseman added a three-down back can be a "unique weapon," a sentiment which is especially true in new coach Doug Pederson's offense. Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott is the best bet to become the "unique weapon" Roseman appears to have in mind, and Philadelphia is in a great spot to land him with the No. 8 overall pick.
‪#‎Eagles‬ and WR Rueben Randle agree to terms on a one-year contract Have already massively upgraded at WR replacing Cooper and Austin with Givens and Randle. Josh Huff has officially been put on notice. Have always really liked Randle, he's just inconsistent as fuck.
http://www.csnphilly.com/football-p...-fb-kevin-turner-dies-46-following-als-battle Former Eagles fullback Kevin Turner died on Thursday morning at the age of 46, according to the Kevin Turner Foundation. Turner, who played for the Eagles from 1995-99, battled with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) for the last six years. In his five seasons with the Eagles, Turner played in 58 games and started 46. In 1999, he was a teammate of current Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. Turner played collegiately at Alabama and was drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 1992 NFL Draft. Turner was also a teammate of Donovan McNabb, when McNabb was a rookie in 1999. McNabbtweeted the following on Thursday afternoon: "Prayers and blessing go out to a former teammate of mine Kevin Turner, unfortunately he passed away. Great mentor and friend. KT we miss you." From the time of his diagnosis in 2010, Turner turned his attention to his foundation to raise awareness to ALS and "sports-related traumatic brain injuries." Turner was one of the faces of the group of NFL players who sued the league for healthcare costs and compensation for players who suffered brain injuries while playing in the NFL. Turner's father, Raymond, posted the following message on Thursday: "Myra and I lost a great son today. He will be missed so much. Thanks to everyone so very much for your support and prayers during this journey. He was ready to go to Heaven, excited he said, Love y'all and God Bless."
No surprises here. At least to me. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Eagles "are in love" with Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott. La Canfora "continue to hear" that if both Cal QB Jared Goff and North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz are off the board when the Eagles pick at No. 8, then Elliott "is the pick." The belief around the league is de facto GM Howie Roseman is "dead set on making a huge splash" in the draft. Elliott would qualify and immediately slide in as the Eagles' three-down workhorse after coach Doug Pederson previously coached workhorses LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles. Elliott may not even make it to No. 8, as the Cowboys at No. 4 are said to be "very high" on him.
At first glance, the schedule looks pretty rough. Middle of the season will be a big challenge. Don't like having 4 out of 5 games on the road coming out of an early bye week
590 The Fan's Howard Balzer reports the Rams surrendered the package they did for the No. 1 pick because they believed the Titans were "ready to pull the trigger on a deal with the Eagles." The Rams paid the iron price — picks No. 15, 43, 45 and 76, in addition to 2017 first- and third-rounders — to move up (and acquire two other picks), so there was clearly competition. The Eagles have been linked to the talks by multiple reporters. The question now is if the Eagles will move up to No. 2 if the Rams pass on Carson Wentz and take Jared Goff. The Birds are reportedly smitten with Wentz.
The Newark Star-Ledger's Eliot Shorr-Parks reports Eagles coach Doug Pederson made it "very clear" Monday that he thinks North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz is "the real deal." The Eagles seem to be the most buzzed about team connected with Wentz now that the Rams are apparently leaning heavily toward Cal QB Jared Goff at No. 1 overall. With the Browns seemingly preferring Goff to Wentz at No. 2, they make for a prime trade partner with the Eagles. According to Shorr-Parks, the Eagles have spent more time with Wentz than any other draft-eligible player, meeting with him twice at the Senior Bowl, at the Combine, in North Dakota, and in Philadelphia. There's been a ton of quarterback smoke coming out of Philly.
Honestly, not mad about it. We need a fucking QB or else we are wasting away with any decent players on this roster. Don't want Goff, want Wentz.
I just like what I hear from him. I can only go off of what I can see from interviews or watching some highlights, which is tough to make a great assessment. But I just feel like he's got a great head on his shoulders and that he says the right things and seems like a guy that is always prepared. Goff put up some gaudy numbers, but there is something off about him. He seems like he could be a real douche. There have been reports that he has not done so well in interviews with teams and that Wentz is doing extremely well, but again, I don't know what is a smoke screen or what is truth. But the general feel I get when contemplating Wentz is that he could be a big time player and is worth the risk...at least in comparison to Goff I don't get caught up in draft analysts too much, but one of the guys I highly respect is Mike Mayock. He's in love with the kid. Just because he went to a smaller school doesn't scare me at all. Drafting a QB high is always a risk. Doesn't matter where the guy went to school. He has a lot of physical similarities to guys like Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco
Those are the reports, but it's really hard to know what to believe this time of year. Teams put out a lot of misinformation.
Only thing I am worried about is this buys Howie some more time because he did this. He did prey on the worst run franchises in the league to deChip us, just not convinced he has any fuckin clue what he's doing. Not having a personnel guy is the equivalent to the Phils not having a saber group under RAJ. In a lot of ways it has to be worse.
I get he wants out, but did he really think he was gonna be the starter for the rest of his career? There is always someone nippin at your ass who is younger, stronger, faster. . . He has the starting spot. He could play lights out and make a 2 year run.
Yeah I don't think he should be bitching. He is still the odds on favorite to start. Plus with a new coaching staff, there is no way he can just expect to be handed shit.
Fuck Bradford. If we can get a 2nd rounder for him, do it. Spoiler assuming, of course, we can get a 2nd rounder for him...
Wish Doug would just sack up and let all the quarterbacks compete through training camp for the job instead of saying that Wentz is going to be number 3 to start the season at this early juncture. Fuck placating Bradford's bitch ass at this point. The season is likely to be a lost cause anyway, start preparing for the future IMO.
Looking forward to watching the defense and hoping some other qbs go down during preseason. Not sure if Sammy or chase are dumpable at this point though.
I'm okay with Pederson firmly saying Wentz is going to sit. I think it's best for him. This team needs to be viable this year since we don't have our first next year. The odds are stacked against Wentz having some Big Ben type of impact and carrying us to the playoffs right off the bat. This team has to win and I think that is the mindset Pederson is trying to put forth. We can't afford to have growing pains with Wentz and win 5 or 6 games. Team can at least be .500 with Bradford/Daniels now that the defense has really begun to look like a legit unit.
Honestly just hoping to see some development at WR this year and having the defense take another step forward. Not heavily investing myself in this year's team. Will wait until Wentz' time comes.
I don't think it's so much placating Bradford as it is wanting to make sure they don't fuck up with Wentz. He's the future and they want to bring him along at their own pace.
This doesn't fucking help... NFL suspended Eagles RT Lane Johnson 10 games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Johnson is appealing. WIP Philly's Darren DeGaetano broke the story. It's the 2013 first-rounder's second steroids suspension after he was banned for the first four games in 2014. It's a massive blow for the rebuilding Eagles. A mountainous 6-foot-6, 317 pounds, Johnson paves monster lanes in the running game. His loss will destabilize the Eagles' running game and leave a skittish Sam Bradford susceptible to even more pressure. Dennis Kelly is the Eagles' No. 3 tackle. The Eagles now have to question if Johnson believes he can be effective without illegal aid. Per ESPN's Field Yates, the suspension voids the remaining guaranteed money in the six-year, $66.112 million extension Johnson signed in January.
What a dumpster fire of a franchise. The Sixers are in better shape. Worst run organization in the city by far the past 5 years.
Hi pardon the interruption. Not trying to start a fight, but need a recommendation for a delicious cheesesteak. I have a family member that is in Philadelphia this week and I told her I would find out a top notch, non touristy trap place to send her for a cheesesteak.
