Been chatting about this one in the PS5 thread. Figured I would start a separate thread for an incredible game that somehow did not have its own thread on TMB. Name P. Redacted Boyd Crowder roonskie Im sure there are others.
I’m still in the first castle. Got to the treasure now I’m back in the real world. The combat and persona system is a bit of a learning curve but I’ve got the hang of it now. Sorta. Need to dig into the persona merging and figure that out. I’m not a huge fan of games that do the time limit thing that persona does with days but it doesn’t seem to be hampering anything at the moment.
Just finished 3rd castle - about 40 hours in. Now just hanging with my confidants until the next target. I'm only able to get in about 45 minutes to an hour a night so I'll be playing this one for a while.
I’m gonna do the normal Herero thing and level up my connection with Ann so we can fuck. I assume that’s the reward for maxing it.
Yes. It’s kind of implied that you do at least so it’s not like anime tits bouncing all over your screen.
One thing I learned was to try to finish a palace in two days (one to get to the treasure, and another to steal it). Saves time. It’s a lot easier when you buy the SP adhesives from Takemi so you’re not running out of SP all the time. The fusion system can be fun once you get the hang of it.
Yea, the SP adhesive is an accessory. You can get SP Adhesive 1/2/3 which give you 3/5/7 SP back before every turn. Once you get to higher spell costs, it’s absolutely imperative, imho. It also lets you get a bit more grindy if you want to boost your EXP or Yen.
The mature theme of the game also caught me by surprise. Didn’t expect to be dealing with a high school coach who beats the shit out of his team and continually tries to fuck a high schooler. I can feel the judgmental looks my wife has.
Yeah. My only problem with the game is that you are playing like a 16 yo HS student and a part of the game is that you can try to seduce females both older and younger. And the whole sexual assault storyline.
Some of the romancing stuff gets weird, and they way over sexualize Ann. But the sexual assault storyline is something I can see happening in real life so I don’t have much issue with that. It really just comes down to the creepy adult romancing and over sexualizing the women. I really expected you to be able to romance Yusuke at a point but idk.
I'm so glad more and more people are playing this. One of my favorites of last gen. I'm planning on getting into P5R soon.
At the point where I’m gonna pick my next target. Does the game speed up? There’s so much exposition and down time.
Cool. Yes it picks up because really the first palace is the learn the game palace. Every time I went in I got some “oh you can do this too” moment and it did get old quick. From the 2nd on you can pretty much do the palaces in 2-3 days if you want. Exposition is there throughout based on the story beats but really at this point you can do almost anything (side jobs, confidants, etc).
Things open up a lot more after the first Palace. Then they keep opening up as you go through. It does a really good job of expanding the game and giving you something new every time you start to get too comfortable with what’s available.
Yea you just go through the story and things happen and you’re like “okay so fuck this guy then let’s get him.”
Things have been slow going for me. About to start the 4th palace (about 45 hours in), but what I like about this game is I can take my time and pick it up at my leisure. Even if I don't play it often it's fun to pick it up for 15 minutes and knock out some days/tasks.
And it’s not like a game where the controls have to come back to you a little when you get started again, which is nice. I remember trying to pick up Witcher after 2-3 weeks of not playing and wanting to kill myself.
I see P5 Strikers is one of the PS+ games this month. Anyone tried it? I’ll probably add it to my never-ending backlog and hopefully get around to it some time this year unless someone tells me it’s an absolute must play.
I've heard it's a fun game and worth playing, just not quite as good as P5 overall. I'll definitely be playing it though.
I wouldn't say it's a must play, but I've enjoyed my time with it. It's a direct follow up of only the base P5 version, so nothing from P5R. If you like the dynasty warriors style combat (forget what it's called) then you will like this. I'm about halfway through, and decided to take a break. Can only handle so much of that genre at a time. I'll hop back on at some point to power through some story, which has been enjoyable.
