Tampa residents: My partner is heading down to the area this upcoming weekend for her kid to tour USF. Hotels in the downtown area are insanely priced right now and I'm assuming that's a result of the possibility that TB could have been hosting the NFCCG - is it safe to assume if we wait until mid-week, some of those prices will start to drop as room cancellations come in?

their campus would be even more dead than usual so I doubt they would intentionally do it . All the activity for Gasparilla is Downtown near the University of Tampa. closed roads and a lot of idiot drunk drivers .
Should give them the full Tampa experience and book a hotel downtown. They'd be a block from the parade route or right on it depending where you booked.
Many years ago my wife and I decided to go on a spur of the moment trip to denver on the weekend of 4/20. Now that was a pretty funny surprise
They've gotta be at USF at 8:30 Saturday morning and do a bunch of things around campus afterward and they're not leaving Jacksonville until after school on Friday. It's bad enough they'll have to drive through/around downtown once just to get to the USF area; no one wants to do it at 7:30 in the morning when all sorts of shit will likely be shut down/rerouted.
It wouldn't be difficult to get out of downtown, especially that early, unless you were in one of the hotels directly on the route. They only block off the parade route and I don't even know if it will be blocked off that early. Getting back after visiting USF (assuming they're staying Saturday night) might be difficult though. You could just book the Embassy Suites on the USF campus or one of the hotels across the street though. Would probably make the morning easier.

Wonder if we could use the extra 3rd to move up and grab one of Newton, DeJean or McKinstry. That's probably not enough but those guys are super talented. Also wouldn't mind the Oregon center if we can get him and slide Barton to guard
Licht already said Barton is gonna be our Center. We definitely need to find a corner or pass rusher if we can. Corner probably has the best value at this point though.
