Deep Red fuckin rips. Great score, cinematography, script, and a very stylish director. The dubbed voices are pretty rough looking but everything else is so good you don't notice it
That dubbing is every Italian movie. Everyone speaks their native language and they dub in later. Argento is phenomenal.
Yeah I noticed it in suspiria too. It looks pretty amateur but I got over it quick. I'll be checking out his other movies
Watching Mandy now (I got a free trial to Shudder) About halfway through and this movie is fucking nuts, but in a very stylish and cool way.
IIRC the dubbing in Italian movies started as a way for the Mussolini lead government to enforce censorship but after awhile it just became part of the Italian aesthetic
Mandy is fantastic. Style and score are A+. Perfect movie for Cage. I have The Beast hung on my living room wall.
Bill fucking Duke and Richard Brake showed up too?!?!?! Fucking awesome movie. Spoiler I did not expect the Black Skulls to be the first people taken out
I thought I would like Mandy more than I did. Enjoyed the first half more than the second but didn't think they really worked together.
Loved Mandy, it’s like a fever dream fairytale of revenge. Panos Cosmatos also directed Beyond the Black Rainbow, another psychedelic sci fi pseudo horror movie. Weird note, his father directed Sly Stallone in Cobra and a few other legit classics (Tombstone which some argue he didn’t really direct) and Leviathan.
Thanks! I ended up torrenting this and Dawn of the Dead. Was reading up on Dawn of the Dead and apparently some random asshole has the rights to it in America and never does anything with it.
I do not know this movie but want to see it after looking it up. Anybody recommend one version over the other?v Regular vs straight cut?
Haven’t seen IRREVERSIBLE in like 20 years; I guess I need to rewatch and try and figure out which version I’ve seen. Gasper Noe was great. I haven’t seen his newer films but if I recall correctly he had a brain injury or something and hasn’t made too many full length films.
https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-lists/best-horror-movies-of-2023-1234863159/ This is a pretty solid list with some on there I haven’t seen yet.
I've seen 3 on that top 10 list. Knock at the Cabin, Minus One, and Infinity Pool. No fucking way Infinity Pool should be above Minus One.
I heard last voyage of the Demeter was terrible. Skinamarink is one of those you either love or hate because it’s what I would call very experimental. I appreciated the creativity to do something wholly different but was not a fan of the movie.
I’d watch the regular than straight. I watched the regular version a while ago iirc I was more disturbed by that one than the one last night. Last night was a straight narrative whereas the regular one ending how it does hits harder. I don’t know how much you know about the movie so I won’t spoil anything. Just know if you watch it, it is an extremely uncomfortable movie to watch. Watch with subtitles so you have to pay attention and not be on your phone.
if you watched it 20 years ago you watched the regular version. The straight cut came out about 4-5 years ago. I should have clarified that I meant “I hope the straight cut lives up to the hype”. I had read a couple reviews before watching it.

I have to say I am very much excited for this one. A unique perspective + art house horror = I'm watching this ASAP. This along with Longlegs looks like we could be getting two great horror movies this year.
Neon has been knocking it out of the park with the marketing campaign for their upcoming horror film Longlegs. The creepy teasers and disturbing posters have kept us anticipating this moment and the official teaser trailer for the film has finally dropped. The film is set to debut sometime in 2024. Check out the official teaser trailer and more about the film below.
Shawn on a real solid bender. Has anyone watched Suitable Flesh? I've heard good things and it's on Shudder.
We got some good stuff cookin' this year and looks like the thread had been dead for this year. Had to fix that.
I finally watched Infinity Pool a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed it more than it seems like others in here did. I have a thing for Mia Goth though.
If you're a sucker for found footage like me, this could be one to check out ‘Frogman’ Trailer – Cryptid Horror Movie May Become Your Next Found Footage Obsession This March
Thanks to Charles DeMar for directing me over here. The film is showing at the Frogman Festival on 3/2 in Loveland, Ohio. Most of the historic Frogman sightings are within 2-5 miles of my house.
Also, I posted this already in our team thread, but in 2020 my son and I discovered the entrance to the Frogman’s subterranean lair during some dry conditions along the Little Miami River. We have sworn an oath to keep the location a secret.
