So I know the topic du joure is whether The Office could survive in present day Gay Witch Hunt would absolutely not fly
A lot of the conversation about the show getting canceled today is silly because they simply would write jokes that were acceptable today. It’s not that hard to understand.
Just did another watch through I’m sure BJ Novak is a great writer but Ryan’s character stinks. Michael being in love with him is funny tho Robert California is still awful
Michael being enamored with the temp is based off the UK Office. Robert California obviously isn’t Michael but he still has some amazing scenes.
Reposting my take. Also love the “hows my favorite branch” bit too, especially when he does it coming back as a temp.
I agree wholeheartedly and wish they would have kept his character as sort of the quiet, likable straight guy amongst all of the insanity
watching blacklist has made me like him even more since spader is just a less exaggerated version of robert there
agreed. the writers room for that show was all time great. They would have adapted to the rules of 2023 with ease.
I'm gonna create a new The Office remake today at my own office -- as it was when it debuted -- on camera, and prove you all wrong.
its basically the deleted scenes of each episode that would've been on dvd's previously from what i can gather, just edited in. mostly stuff that was likely only cut for time since majority of episodes are ~26 minutes long instead of 21ish. they're good i think, add more story context behind certain side stories, stuff like kevin talking about gambling 10 episodes before you actually see it in the show. for the most part the jokes aren't bad but aren't anything you'd miss watching the main show but there are some really good jokes sporadically that were cut or longer scenes of a joke that kept going. its just more office, definitely worth a watch. that said, the peacock app is broken on my fire stick to where their audio dictation function automatically comes on each episode even when i turned it off over and over. that is the most annoying thing i've ever experienced. "ryan walks in." "michael mimes a penis with his finger." "jim turns to camera."
There is definitely more ancillary character back story and things I find myself watching saying that makes sense why they cut it because it slightly detracts from the overall narrative they wanted to make about the character. It’s added some fun to the rewatch.
