Recent update At the last minute we decided to play one last rec season with my older son but they’ve forced us to play up in U12. After the draft our 1st pick decided to go back and play travel in another city so we were able to bring El Tiburon ’s son back into the squad so we will be taking on the league together. We’re preseason middle of the pack with our top pick being a 4th grader in a league of 5th and 6th graders but I think we’re going to surprise some people. They do keep records and standings in the age group so we will let you know how team TMB does this season
Game 1 recap We were the only team to have a bye on Tuesday so we started the season vs a team that won their first game. We were missing El Tiburon Jr so down one of our stronger players. Opening front line was 3 4th graders in a league for 5th/6th grade kids. Started off on the attack and got a breakaway 2 minutes in and Jigga Jr knocked a ball in with his left off a good cross. Few minutes later got another one and up 2-0 before the fans were in their seats. 2nd quarter one of our best players got hurt and we gave up some bad goals and tied 2-2 at the half. Got back into form in the 3rd and my asst coaches kid scored from the top of the box to put us back in front. Got another goal late in the 4th and held on with some really good saves and started the season 1-0 with a 4-2 win
Game 2 Had a full roster tonight so had to work a bit more on rotations and lineups and that is a work in progress. But as far as the team went tonight they played awesome. Had a bit of trouble trying to dribble through their midfield and back line to start but finally broke through and got a goal in the late in the 1st to go up 1-0. Stayed that way at halftime and into the 4th. But finally in the 4th it was like a damn broke and their was no stopping us. Had 2 quick goals, their goalie made 3 good saves and we had 2 called back for offsides and another 2 shot over the crossbar. Final score of 3-0 and I think our goalies tonight only had to make 1 real save. El Tiburon Jr was everywhere tonight cleaning up loose balls. It’s early but 2 coaches after the game said they think we’re one of the 2 best teams
Tib, Jr, had a good shot on goal on a sweet cross and even put it up in a corner but the opponent had a good goalie who grabbed it. Also had a long distance near assist where he blasted the ball into space from the back line and our forward had a great shot on goal but it was again caught by the goalie. Li’l Jigga also had two near goals. All in all not a bad night.
Well first negative result today and it really shouldn’t have been. We are much better than the team we played but just couldn’t finish. Hit the crossbar twice. Called for offsides 3 times. And had 4/5 crosses go right across the face but couldn’t get on the end of them. They had 2 fluke goals, one of which was kicked out of our goalies hands. Lost 3-2 but we play them again next game and I already guaranteed a win
Yeah tough loss. But after going down 3-0 they made a late game rally to cut it to 3-2. It was just one of those games. Revenge will be sweet!
Revenge game time vs the last team we played. Started off strong as mini Jigga got on the end of a pass and knocked it by the goalie. We kept control the entire first quarter but literally at the end they got a breakaway by their best player (who was on the travel team of my kid and my assts kid but he quit because his dad is a bitch) scored. I didn’t see it but many were saying he was offsides. 2nd quarter again we controlled and got a free kick a few yards outside the box and knocked it it to be up 2-1 at the half. 3rd quarter, long pass comes in by the other team, trips up our defender and their best player scores again to tie it at 2. I wish I counted how many shots we had on them this quarter because besides their goal we just kept firing but couldn’t get anything in. Hit the crossbar a few times, their 6’1” goalie made a bunch of saves. Then we get a break handball called in the box (the ref missed the first one 20 seconds before) and mini Jigga lines up to take a PK. He is a Chelsea fan and has wanted to take a kick like Jorginho even though he had been told not to. He did, missed wide. Stays 2-2. No goals in the 4th and game ends in a tie. Super frustrating since we are the better team but just couldn’t get the ball in the net. Hopefully when we play teams without massive goalies we have more success.
2 game update Saturday……we don’t talk about Saturday. This team doesn’t play well at 8:30 in the morning. Tonight Somehow this team does less with more. We probably had 85% of possession and only came away with a 2-0 win. They really only had one scoring chance off a free kick from 25 yards out. Outside of that we controlled the ball pushed it up but just couldn’t get it in the goal. Thankfully we had 2 good shots, 1 that megged 3 players and got the win but going to need to score more to go far even though if we play our best I don’t know if anyone can score on us.
Saturday game. Hot as hell. Missing 2 players, the top goal scorer this year and Mini Tib. Start the game off their goalie makes a bad pass out of the back steal it and score before he can even get back in goal. 1-0. They come back and score 2 in a row and then just before half we tie it up at 2. They score off a free kick from just outside the box and go up 1 and it’s 3-2 at halftime. 3rd quarter Mini Jigga rips a shot that goes through the goalies hands and ties it at 3. We add 1 in the 4th and take the win 4-3. That may move us to 2nd but I’d need to check once the standing are updated. The other team maybe had 6 shots the whole game and we easily had 12 or more. Just keep hitting the post or goalies making great saves. But good momentum as we approach the playoffs
