Just curious. My sister and my friend joined a coed team with me, and we're all completely in love with the game. Tonight, our goalie noted that the light was fading, and my sister and I both got mad because, even after two-plus straight hours, we did NOT want to quit playing. Fuck the darkness. What a wonderful sport. I hadn't played since I was 5, and now I'm really regretting wasting all those years. I still have to find a position. They had me playing CB tonight, but I'm not aggressive enough to do that habitually. I'm not good enough on the ball to play forward or midfield. I guess that puts me ... where? Bench?
Play a few times a week. Just retweaked an injury that had kept me out a few months yesterday though.
i play in/on as many intramural leagues/teams as possible. its going to suck being in the real world soon and no one plays (or is no good)
I play pickup games with a bunch of different people that played at several high schools around where im from. Its a pretty good mix of guys playing soccer in college and people like me who said fuck it and got chubby. I still got it though, except for the whole conditioning part.
i get my 10 on if i made one or two good plays then called for the ball at every moment of the game i woulda written; favorite thing to do otoh find a bunch of people that suck make one or two good plays then call for the ball at every moment of the game
his left foot is as strong as oak its his mental toughness that is the one dim spot on the bright star that he is and he gets hurt a lot
I think it's actually fun to play with people who suck. We don't take things seriously, and we just go out and have fun. Make a bad pass? Laugh about it. Send a shot over a pine tree? Laugh about it. There's no pressure.
Playing with people that want water breaks every 5 minutes is about as annoying as it gets. That or talking/holding the ball after goals. I don't care if you suck, just keep the ball moving.
I havent played in a while but I am starting to get back into. I am also teaching my daughter the game. She is only 2 1/2 but already can run while kicking the ball and knows not to use her hands. She can kick it pretty good. I bought her a small ball and we have been playing around the house a lot. I took her to the park and she loved it. I need to find some good people to play with. I am not in the best shape, but not terrible either because I started running again. When I do play I stay in the back and make occasional runs upfront if it is a serious game. If the players are not as good, I'll go up top and unleash my wicked left foot.
And he ambushes the referee any time there's a foul, and (insert hawaiian footballer stereotype here).
Oh when I play I go full out. Slide tackles, use the shoulders on 50/50, etc. I do get heated too easy though, playing soccer brings the most competitive aspect out of me. Have gotten into quite a few skirmishes with people that bitch about it.
To respond to an earlier comment, no one on my team wants a water break every five minutes. In fact, we played for over an hour last night before our first water break, then played for another hour after. Our league has a few interesting rules: Six guys and five girls must be on the field at the same time. No slide tackling. Women get two points for a goal. Fortunately for us, pretty much all of our women (excluding my sister) played college soccer. Some of them are insanely good. I'm still trying to figure out a position. We have a scrimmage tomorrow, so maybe we can figure something out then. I might also see if we can establish a formation. Right now, we're all pretty much just running around and playing street ball.
My sister is actually invisible, so pictures would be worthless. But, to appease the 'boarders... Here we are playing soccer in the yard.
Let this serve as a case study for new MB posters. There was really no reason to even mention the sister in the first line of the OP, unless you planned on posting her pic somewhere in the thread. We can only assume that you knew this, having read the rules, and just need to be brow-beaten so that you can use that as a defense in case she gets pissed at you later.
I have no problem with physical play. Just like to get a gauge of the type of pickup game going on and if there's a consistent or accepted level of physicality. I'm torn on slide tackling. At one aspect, I understand it's a part of the game and can be a great defensive move or even a quick change of momentum. OTOH, a lot of the slide tackling fags (at least from my experience) do it b/c they lack skill or creativity, or they're just dirty.
Just to be clear I also like to gauge how the people that are playing handle physical play, but most of the time the people that I have played in South FLorida are pretty good and the games are of fairly good quality and pretty serious. When it was just friends playing for fun then things were more relaxed and I wouldnt go all out.
That's what I figured. I know a lot of times in pick up games, especially when the players are unfamiliar with 90%+ of the other players, it's pretty much an unspoken rule that physicality is limited, but if it's a group of regulars I'd expect it to be more intense.
chilean are you the kind that goes and plays on the city courts with your middle aged friends, most of whom are wearing jorts?
Exactly. No Mexicans down here, well at least not in big numbers. Mostly South Americans, you know where all the talents comes from.
can you remind me what state the dallas cup is in? (the most competitive youth tournament in the world) (and tell me if any teams from florida have ever won the super group)
texas>south florida. not everyone in SFLA is from south america (much less all the soccer players). same with not everyone in texas is mexican
most of the people that are really good dont play organized soccer because they are illegal so it really doesnt matter.
i like mexican sweeper-keepers who think they are good and try to dance around with the ball in the box. its always a tough decision after i steal possession from them whether to chip the ball over them for a goal or juke their ass.
I'm convinced that NJ is the most diverse place on earth. My Sunday morning game has Mexicans, South/Central Americans, Israelis, Jamaicans, West Africans, one Irishman, 2 Englishmen, Arabs, and plain old like myself. My only problem is that they don't play with keepers, either mini-goals or cones.
