Closing on our house tomorrow. Received scam emails posing as the loan processor and the law firm we’re closing with providing a scam bank account. Glad I noticed that. Scary shit. Can’t even imagine what I’d have done if I hadn’t noticed.
My house has cat5e ran but it was all wired for phone line. I’ve reterminated all of it to a patch panel and network switch and changed out wall outlet keystones where needed. Maybe you’re getting confused by that, KU folks often get lost following anything technical related.
There's some signal loss but the mesh stuff is hoing to work for most people. I'm not gaming in my bedroom and if you can stream 4k on multiple devices I'm not sure the need to bother with wiring
Asus AI Mesh compatible routers are another good option. They even work well mix and match to some extent (i.e. don't necessarily need to have the same model router, though best if they are).
Which one of you green goblins will be the first to buy this? Might be me https://www.techradar.com/home/smar...ombo-to-clean-air-better-than-an-air-purifier
I'm happy to say we're mostly moved into the new place. Wanted to share our living room wall that I'm very happy with and the return of my man cave which had been lost for 2.5 years due to children taking it over.
My brother had one leak in an area of their house no one is ever in. Did 35k in damage when they finally found it.
fuuuck. Ours will be inside near the washer/dryer and on garage slab or whatever. And we pass it every day. Will keep an eye on that.
cabinets going in this week and finally moving to our new city in two weeks. having a house built when you aren't even in the city yet has been rough. can't wait to see it in person finally
yes the vast majority of people can order a mesh router set up off Amazon for like $200 and call it a day. anything else is just a hobby.
My son's gaming PC is wired and our living room tv is just because the router is right there and you don't have to wait the 20 seconds for it to connect but it's not something I'd worry about otherwise.
I would not advise anyone to spend any resources hard wiring your house for something you'll prob never notice. You have way more free time than I do.
I'm sure there's still a cost attached to a new home but sure I guess. Still the cabling will prob be outdated in several years. I'd suggest buying your own modem instead of what the internet company gives you if you really want an immediate performance boost.
If you can tell the technological future on something like that then sure go for it. I just would never suggest anyone do it. Just ride with wireless until you come across something you absolutely need to be wired for
There are some fucking horrible takes here in the last page. People just flat no clue what the fuck they are saying. It’s been enjoyable.
cat 5e has been useful for at least 25 years and it is minimal cost to go to cat 6 or 6a which will support up to 10gbps wired. If building a new house you’d be a fool not to pull the wire then vs after it’s built and the less stuff on your wireless, the better your wireless will perform for everything that is on it. hell, now a days you can use MoCA and your likely already pre installed coax cabling for a cheap very solid wired back end.
Maybe this is just for me but I've had a cable that was inhibiting my router speed before. And I've been in my house for 15 years so maybe it's a longer timeline than "several." I'm still not sure the use case which maybe there's something I'm missing. I've got 35 things currently connect to my router and still getting 90% of what I pay for through AT&T.
understood. likely the termination and not the cable but a kink could cause issues as well. Where WiFi gets issues is when you have lots of devices using lots of bandwidth simultaneously and older devices can essentially force the network to only allow one device to talk to the router at a time. It can be highly your mileage may vary territory. an example: I had five wireless cameras that were killing WiFi performance in the whole house. Put them on a crappy, but just fast enough power line backend and it alleviated all of my issues.
I had to move to a mesh system because my old router couldn't handle all the dumbass light bulbs and switches that are honestly prob more trouble than their worth.
It's the brain. It's a Google home or Alexa that both seemingly can't understand simple commands they had no problems understanding a few years ago. Maybe it's their age but I'm not sure I'm interested in buying upgrades
In and out of this thread so sorry if you’ve posted this project before, but did you do that wall yourselves/self? Looks excellent!
If I were building a new house, id get every room a hardwire. WiFi speeds are great, but still not as good as direct.
No I did not. I think I probably *could*, but I doubt it would turn out as good. It cost us 3k total (not counting the TV and mount).
just found this pile of dead flies at the bottom of the kids playhouse slide. Any ideas? Are these termites?? Google showed me some awfully similar images
