Yep, visiting them this weekend. He was gonna be our 4th safety but we rotate heavily and he would have started next year. Disappointing loss
Obviously happy it didn’t turn out to be the disaster he predicted. Similarly happy he got an ego check and had to own it. I like Pate for what he is (ear fodder to distract from my job) but he was getting a little carried away with himself
i'm not sure his line of thinking was totally unreasonable. we could have easily seen what he was expecting considering we likely wont have many more portal windows that are almost completely unrestricted. he also could have easily tried to sell us on it still being true and we just havent seen it yet. so 1 point for owning it, 1 point for the clown nose, -.5 points for deflecting. ive definitely seen worse apologies.
Considering we just saw two coaching changes from playoff teams in the last cycle (combined with all the usual coaching turnover in the last cycle) it seemed real dumb to think the spring window was going to be epic.
eh the line of thinking was when there are no rules there is chaos, which we've seen olay out countless times in other areas of society. nothing contributed to it other than the sudden lack of any rules at all.
But there's been free transfer for several cycles. The calculus didn't add up for this to be an outlier
Pate was getting fed info from coaches he was close with. Like Miami and Cristobal and I’m sure many others that were tampering(yes everyone does it) and hoping it would be more eventful. Seems like collectives have gotten much better at retention but like fsu we expected like 7-qp or more to portal and only 2 did. Think kids know dropping down isn’t always the best bet and pwo plus NiL means you can go over scholarship numbers
An exclusively college football show/pod overselling its only draw for viewership during the offseason and the prime window for NFL draft content shouldn’t really be surprising. Seems like hyping up the transfer window would be the first bullet point in the network’s offseason directives.
It was still an interesting cycle, but nowhere near as chaotic as he predicted. We fell way short of the gutting of programs and in reality, the biggest names that transferred were more often impacted by coaching changes, such as the guys who left Bama. What will be interesting to me is how the teams who tried buy their way into a rebuild will fare this year. There have been years when NFL teams swung for the fences in free agency and it didn't work. There was a year not long after Dan Snyder bought the Redskins that comes to mind. I suspect the reality is that the teams most successful in portal utilization will be teams that already had a strong foundation but tweaked a bit and added a few strong key ingredients. The obvious example is Ohio State who won't have a team come within 10 points this year, of course. One thing that was interesting to me with the unlimited transfer change was how many guys who transferred last year are transferring again, and even more so, how many winter transfers are already bailing after spring practice. Not to mention the few that are going back to their originals.
Wishy washy kids stay wishy washy. You see the same thing in major change. “You’re on your third school, you want to change majors again, you want to study abroad, AND you want to graduate early?”
he's entertaining and allows me to consume cfb content from the only place i want to consume content, youtube. i'd add pate state to my fan of if i could.
In a CFB media scape full of Barrett Sallee’s and Tray Clavis tour stops filmed in front of a live audience of Hershel Walker and those 11 limes in a bowl, I think I’ll eventually forget Josh Pate getting it wrong that Bear Alexander would be at his seventh school in seven years.
the curse of the Orange Bowl still exists, will prolly win 7 games again its like the curse of the bambino a full century will have to pass
Or they could just use the millions per year they’re saving by having a first-time head coach and not paying Harbaugh’s salary anymore.
Sure but not sure y’all signed one elite player in the spring besides the RB who is very good. Think anyone who has taken a large amount it kids in the spring portal and expecting them to hit the ground running and start is gonna be in for a rude awakening. RB and wr seems like the two easiest spots to do that in.
I learned in his coaches one on ones slurp sessions he wears the black version unhealthy addiction to lifting
