I think through middle and high school I was only ever outside for the national anthem as a player on 9/11/01 (we surprisingly didn't cancel our game that night). It was just never a thing. Definitely not at the college level, either. Fuck the NFL and the government for somehow turning that shit song into a measure of athletes patriotism.
