My prediction for when the show resumes in January (spoilered for those not current): Spoiler The episode opens in the hospital room following Kate's appendectomy. The family is all gathered around her, laughing and joking. After a while the Mom reminds her that nothing bad ever happens on Christmas Eve. The natural sound is replaced with music as the family keeps interacting; Kevin and Randall are doing something goofy in the background and the Dad is making Kate chuckle. Scene transitions to the present time where Kate is talking to the doctor. Toby has died. Kevin and Randall are in disbelief in the background, clearly shocked and upset, though they're trying to be stoic for their sister. Kate collapses into her Mom's arms and asks, "I thought nothing bad ever happens on Christmas Eve?" Cue This Is Us graphic.
My mom told my wife and I about this show shortly after the premiere given what we experienced this past year. She said there is a scene with a doctor that will just blow you away in the episode. Honestly we were both nervous to watch as it would bring back a lot feels/memories of a tragic part of our lives. We finally decided to watch last weekend and my goodness it was so well done and the room was dusty for a long, long time. We finished the last episode last night and absolutely love it. Definitely one of my favorite shows. The speech the doctor gave Jack was one of my favorite moments of tv. It really hit home.
Wife and I decided to check it out yesterday evening. Ended up staying up late and then got all the way caught up this morning. I generally don't watch network TV but this show is great so far. Every episode there is at least one moment where it gets dusty.
if you have Netflix y'all should check out Parenthood its generally the same thing except its all one timeline
The Bravermans are amazing. That's actually how I got turned onto This is Us, because a friend was like "it's a lot like Parenthood, just a little 'different' in a good way"
I thought this week's was the weakest episode so far. Previews for next week look great tho...lots of storylines in that one.
watched this w/ the wife over the course of the past week damn this is good tv don't know if i'll be more emotional for Jack or William's passing
I made it all the way to the previews for next week and then godamnit. Why must they tug the feels every week?
I wouldn't blame Toby if he kills Duke and Kate. Mandy Moore looked incredible throughout that episode.
It'll be interesting to see what goes down in that situation. I know a few women at work that watch the show and Toby is their favorite character...if Kate fucks him over for that Duke guy, then there is gonna be a villain on the show in their eyes.
based on the end of the ep it seems like Spoiler jack gonna fall off the wagon and die in a drunk driving wreck
Definitely seems like that's what will happen....so, it probably isn't. We are definitely headed to an ending involving booze with him tho.
It was an extremely well done episode. Great way to send William out. Perfect that Randall met cousins that final day as well, since he always wanted to meet family.
it got me to find out he was straight and narrow and then his mom died and his whole world fell apart and the only thing that could make him feel better were drugs also interesting that his mom probably had the same type of cancer, so I wonder if Randall has that gene
watching the aftershow on this episode is great most of the Memphis scenes of them in the barbershop, bbq restaurant, etc were improved in and then Sterling Brown said he saw the actor and his real dad when he was doing the hospital scene since he was only 10 when he lost his real dad and wasn't allowed to be there since they thought he was too young just makes you really appreciate just how great this show is
"The two best things in my life were the person at the very beginning of my life and the person at the very end." cue the fucking dust come flying off of the shelves and into my eyes
