Me? flurry of notes. That'll get me out of anything. but seriously, that's a question of interpretation/taste. I would take that video and play over it until I figured out what works. But, it's basically a collection of chords--you know which chord is which and which scales work, so the only guess is how you want to transition as opposed to a 1-4-5 or something. half steps are important. I can tell who a lot of guitarists are just by that alone. These guys figure out the perfect accents and I think "damn, that's awesome. I FUCKING SUCK AND WISHED I FIGURED THAT OUT MYSELF."
my daughter went to see La La Land and loved the music, so she worked up the tune on piano. It reminded my of Satie's Gymnopodies. Every time I've heard it over the years I thought, "I need to play that on guitar" and never ever do it. Today is the day.
what are some good songs that one guitar player and a drummer can get away with playing? so far i have cissy strut and rocky mountain way(not sure on this one we gonna try it tonight)
We fired our keyboard player and hired a girl who is fucking unbelievable. The only problem is that she Christina Agulieras every song she sings, even the harmonies. She's got a very nice voice, but it's just constantly too much. Trying to figure out how to tell her to take it down a notch politely, because she's badass otherwise.
less is more. An impossible thing for a musician to understand relative to their own output. ts and ps
Last keyboard player was super lazy, so it's a constant struggle. Hard to get mad at the new girl for trying too hard, but here I am.
True - but I also don't want her to quit. She does a bunch of solo shit, and if she thinks I'm being a dick or trying to keep her from doing stuff she likes, she'll just stick to her own thing. Probably just going to have to deal for a little while or turn her mic down. Ha.
Can be tricky. If you already have a relationship where she knows you think she's talented, it can be easier. Like a guy I used to write with, we both respected each other's ability and we both knew that we respected each other's ability so it made it easier to say "this part sucks" or "I think you can write something better here"
Yeah, I don't really know her at all. Hoping we can get there quickly, but there's just no way to do it this early without it being weird as shit. Even with the over the top singing, we sound better with her than without, so I'll deal until we get to know each other or it starts making us sound worse than we did before. It's hard as shit to find a good/dedicated rock keyboard player.
Oh yea. If you're just starting to play with her then agreed. You'll have to get comfortable with each other musically before you can say shit like that to someone
tell her she's so good that the harmonies are hard to achieve because she's outshining the rest of you. We can't get to your level so let me drag you down to mine. It's similar to people I golf with. What's your song list? I thought I read earlier you were doing covers? My guilty pleasure is watching cover bands nail tunes...not get all self indulgent. can't wait to see the eho band.
Yeah, almost exclusively covers. Every once in a while we'll throw a couple originals in depending on the crowd or how the night is going. We play weird shit. Here's a smattering of the songs we play to get an idea: Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes - Paul Simon Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis and the News Bridgeless - Umphrey's McGee Jane - Jefferson Starship Schism - Tool Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas Long Cool Woman - The Hollies Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel Mike's Song - Phish Freedom '90 - George Michael Kiss the Girl - Little Mermaid Fraggle Rock theme song Rosanna - Toto We try and play shit all over the place and stick to tunes other bands don't play while also attempting to stay moderately popular.
awesome. rare find. Now that I know this, I'm going to put suggestions in this thread for 80s and 90s tunes...like the outfield, cutting crew, divinyls, drivin n cryin, fountains of wayne, John Waite (Change). Replacements, and I'd like to hear someone do Sanford townsend band's smoke from a distant fire. Son Volt-Drown, anything by XTC, Pete Townsend solo stuff, Van Morrison into the mystic.
Iirc he just goes down and then back up the strings in some kind of box formation in the intro riff. Just seemed really unimaginative
Yeah, it's a very straight forward F#m triad arpeggio (R, 5, b7), but it's no different than most stadium rock type songs.
Yea I'm just hating. I just listened to the song for the first time in forever and it didn't sound bad or as simple as I remember.
learned how to play Michael Tai - Tennessee (great piano song from terrible movie Pearl Harbor) the last couple nights. panties will be wet
I really need to step up my strum muting (I'm sure there's another name for it). I feel like I'm having a body spasm trying to stay on beat when I do it.
getting dangerously close to either breaking my guitar or playing rosanna cleanly (that little run he does in the guitar solo where he goes chromatic then 1.5 step up and down keeps fucking me up. I walked away from that one many years ago. The bad habits I developed early on fall victim to this exact type of thing. mitchrage eHo
Give me a time range: *edit* wait, are you talking about that little run at 1:07 (that this dude doesn't play)?
nah, that I've got. I learned this back in the 80s. this guy's take on the run is how I do it. edit: except, I'm pretty sure that at the end of the run he plays one note a half step lower than I think it's actually done (he throws in a C#). I could be wrong though
the part at :19 between the g and b string transition. my right hand is messing it up. The fingering is no problem. It's just a fundamental issue I've had forever. I would work around things like that and develop bad habits.
If I haven't played that song in a couple weeks, I have to work through that a couple times to get it right even though I've played it a million times. It's counterintuitive. Lukather is a really underrated guitarist. He does some devious shit. The outro solo is a BITCH.
Deadening the strings on a full strum. Just throws me off on the chord change since it's usually the last strum before it.
