yeah not saying don't watch it, it's just remarkable how bad the reviews are, and the fighting back from the EP. probably the first netflix/marvel show with real negative press.
2 episodes in and the casting of ward and the sand snake seem so bad so far. Their scenes together are shit. I really like Loras as IF though.
I'm on episode 6. About Ward Spoiler If he's supposed to be the main villain of season 1, he's the weakest villain of all the Netflix series so far. Also he's a pill head. I'm really hoping his sister turns out to be the big bad. There are seeds that she can ruthless; however, this is promptly followed up by episodes of her showing guilt and remorse
They really need a compelling villain. Every other Netflix series had one. Daredevil had Wilson Fisk Jessica Jones had Killgrave Luke Cage had Cottenmouth (fuck diamondback) Iron Fist is focusing more on the corporate side of things with a dash of an overarching villainous plot.
I'm actually enjoying it more than Luke Cage so far, but that may be because I didn't enjoy the second half of the season of Luke Cage at all.
Powered on through and finished the season. Spoiler Looks like they're going to setup Joy to be a villain in season 2. She has the ruthlessness to do it, hopefully she gets over her guilt factor. Didn't really enjoy Ward's character, he had no charisma to him at all. Now his father Harold at least had a personality to him. So was Bakuto or Harold supposed to be the big bad. Neither really did it for me as the villain. Harold's goal was too small minded (I want control of the company) and Bakuto was what? Jealous of the Iron Fist legacy? They needed more martial arts for a show supposedly dealing with "the worlds greatest martial artist"
Binged it yesterday and I liked it. I get some of the knocks early on the martial arts skills. Really apparent when weapons were used. I thought the fight scenes were pretty good. Spoiler: Spoiler I had a hard time keeping up with all the different motivations and subplots. Too many partial villains and not one central bad guy to take down. Overall really liked it and I am looking forward to another season as he learns more about his powers. Oh and the chick who stuck him with the spider venom needles would get it.
Through episode 8 and am enjoying it. Episode 8 Spoiler Spoiler They're doing a good job being true to the martial arts styles. My dad ran his own Karate Dojo, and was a black belt in Okinawan Karate, which incorporates a lot of Chinese Kung Fu. I never had much interest in it, but picked up on a lot of stuff as a kid. The fight with the Drunken Kung Fu guy was great. You don't see that a lot in film.
I finished it last night and while it wasn't my favorite of the series it wasn't bad. I'm still pumped for The Defenders and The Punisher.
This is pretty much how I feel. I think it set the stage for The Defenders pretty well. Obviously the focus of the series is going to be on The Hand, which is the interwoven storyline though all of the individual series. I enjoyed Iron Fist more than Luke Cage, but I thought Danny was the the worst part of the show. I didn't like Finn Jones portrayal (and it was painfully obvious they had to cut the choreography around his lack of ability for fight scenes), but it also seemed like the writers were very indecisive as to how to portray the character. His personally randomly changed from episode to episode. Overall, I'd rank them so far: Daredevil Season 2 1st Half Daredevil Season 1 Jessica Jones Daredevil Season 2 2nd half Iron Fist Luke Cage.
My hope is there is a kind of parks and rec effect, where his defenders and second season personality will barely resemble his first season personality. I actually liked the show a lot, but Danny needs some work for sure
finished last night. I enjoyed it. on par with Luke Cage for me. a bit anti-climatic, but I this show had to tell its own story while set up the Defenders as well so it was always going to be difficult.
Seven episodes in, and the pace and overall quality of the episodes are picking up. I rank this at the bottom of the Marvel series so far, but each series has had their highs and lows.
Two episodes in and Ward and his dad are laughable, especially when together.. at what point did they think the guy who played Ward was good actor.. Still not bad of a show though.
I'm not a fan of the lead actor and his fighting scenes but the show is ok. Get him in a gym for season 2 so he doesn't look like a drug addict.
Enjoyed the first season but like some others, wish they would've focused more so on just one villain instead of the 3. Not bad though, will watch next season.
Almost done. It's been fine. I actually thought Luke Cage was significantly better (how can you beat naming all the episodes after GangStarr songs) sans the Diamondback nonsense. This one feels significantly miscast.
Finished last night. My reaction to the show: ok? Wasn't good, wasn't awful. Complaints are about the same as other people have said, the lack of fighting and how it was shown was odd giving the martial arts background. A come on man moment was when the hand leader was all "oh they didn't teach you to use your power to heal during your 15 years there? nbd just do this for 5 seconds". The ground pound in the finale, though sudden, was cool though. Hey there Colleen There really didn't seem to be a point and the writers/directors/producers/etc couldn't decide what they wanted to do. Hopefully the characters that hang around for the defenders are much improved.

Show was aggressively mediocre. Don't care for another season, but I hope they salvage the character in Defenders.
I watched most of it over one weekend. Didn't have the time to get around to watching the rest of it until another weekend. Despite finding it not as bad as the reviews say, the only reason I could come up with finishing it is so I could finish it, I couldn't really find any compelling reason so I just won't be finishing the season.
it's not nearly as bad as I expected, but a few things are just mind-numbing Spoiler - Danny brought up in New York. He's really smart. He wouldn't just forget social interactions in New York. - for the love of God just gag Gao's mouth shut - Ousting a 51 % shareholder from a corporate board? - why is claire, a non-fighter, going to china to fight ninjas with two strangers she just met - Colleen needs a LOT of dough to run that dojo, but like, never thought to ask or get help from the multinational crime syndicate that she's a part of? - Why does every single non-Danny character constantly change motivations and protagonist/antagonist status? I get that characters are supposed to be multifaceted and "grey" in modern TV, but their motivations never compel the sudden changes.
thought of another good one: Spoiler Colleen stabs the fuck out of Bakuto. Literally fights someone with a SAMURAI SWORD and intentionally SWINGS IT into his stomach. There is blood gushing from his innards. Next, after doing this, she suddenly decides she shouldn't be killing her enemies. Additionally, Danny watches her stab the fuck out of a person happily. Once she spares him, THEN he gains a conscience and doesn't want him killed.
Just binged this after Luke Cage. I like Iron Fist better but there are tons of issues, most have been brought up. Really like the theme music and opening credits. The pacing was slow and boring, some of the fights were pretty good but lots of cuts during those fight scenes. I imagine trying to learn Kung Fu in a matter of months is tough for the actor. Hopefully he trains harder and works out more for the next season. Joy's character arc is terrible. She goes from almost crying in the cancer arc to hiring PI to get dirt on board members. She goes from screaming Danny's name when he's being taken away to plotting to kill him in what, 2 episodes? Harold kept flipping back and forth, same with Ward. His payoff was good but holy shit it took forever to get him there. I think the writing overall is what held the show back. Ill give it another season. Pretty stoked for the Defenders next month.
I never finished the season. I took a break from it because I got super busy at work for about 2 weeks then never found a compelling reason to resume it.
Just finished. I know nothing about the comics so maybe he's a really good character or this is what he's supposed to be like, but I thought it was boring as hell, the actors were awful and I wouldn't have gone past episode 2 if it weren't for the Defenders coming out soon. I saw some in here saying the lack of a villain was was an issue, but there wasn't a character in the show I wanted to root for. Danny was a moron who just whined all the time, threw little kid tantrums every time something happened, and did the dumbest shit possible at every turn. Colleen and Ward got more interesting as the show went on, but the stuff with the dad was similar to the Diamondback stuff at the end of Luke Cage.
Read an article with the actor and he said the character was purposefully written that way bc all the stuff he was dealing with as far as re-introduction to society, the business, the Hand, his power, his family, and who to trust. Hopefully after the Defenders he'll have more direction. But yeah he was boring, tough to root for at times and wishy washy the whole season.
I'm watching this now. In the middle of a binge. It's so awful and I can't stop. I hope it's done soon. Something that pisses me off with these netflix shows is that when I FF to the end to skip the credits, it still forces me to watch the foreign credits. shit, I'm only on episode 8
